According to reports, Jammu and Kashmir security forces successfully defused an improvised explosive device today in Pulwama district. The explosive was found in a bucket on Pulwama-Sirnoo road in the south Kashmir district, a police official said.

The security in the valley as well as in parts of Pulwama district has been tightened as separatists observed a strike today on the second death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. Restrictions were imposed in Pulwama and Tral townships.

The Maharashtra forest department has served a notice to Salman Khan and five other members of his family for what it claimed were illegal construction at the Bollywood star's farmhouse at Panvel.

The notice was served on June 9 in the name of the actor's father Salim Khan, based on a complaint by a non-resident who also has a property in Panvel in adjoining Raigad district, according to a forest department official.

Salim Khan was given seven days time to respond, according to the notice.

It stated that the ownership rights of the property, called Arpita Farms, located at Wajapur area of Panvel, rest with Salman Khan, his sisters Alvira and Arpita, brothers Arbaaz and Sohail and mother Helen.

Asked about the action taken against the Khan family since the seven-day period to respond had lapsed, Maharashtra Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar today said that "due process was being followed".

When contacted, Salim Khan told PTI that all legal procedures were followed before the construction work was undertaken.

"All my structures have been regularised and the necessary fees were also paid. There is no illegal construction," the veteran scripwriter said.

The notice said, "An offence was registered on November 21, 2017 on account of violation of the Forest Act for carrying out cement/concrete construction at your Arpita farms."

It said that according to records, unauthorised construction was carried out on several occasions and therefore, various offences were registered.

"Investigations showed that the farmhouse belongs to the entire family of Salman Khan, Alvira Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Arpita Khan, Helen Khan and Sohail Khan. So, (you need to explain) why your family should not be believed to be collectively involved in carrying out unauthorised construction and violation of forest laws," the notice said.

"It also seems that despite committing these offences, you have regularised the premises by misleading the state and the central governments," it said.

"If you do not give any explanation in the matter within the said time, it would be presumed that you have nothing to say in the matter and legal action shall be taken against the entire family," the notice warns.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in will arrive in New Delhi on Sunday, marking his first ever state visit to India.

The South Korean President will be accompanied by senior members of his cabinet, officials as well as industry captains. First Lady Kim Jung-sook will also be accompanying the President.

During his visit, Moon will attend an India-Korea Business Forum on July 9.

On the same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Moon will together visit the Gandhi Smriti. Thereafter, they will also visit a Samsung plant in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

The Law Commission of India today held the first meeting to discuss the feasibility of holding Lok Sabha and assembly polls together.

While members from the BJP and the Congress were not present in the meeting, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) were the two recognised national parties in attendance.&nbsp;

The concept of simultaneous polls was opposed by TMC, Communist Party of India (CPI) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) while NDA's ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) supported the idea.

SAD said that It would reduce the expenditure&nbsp;and shorten the period of the Model Code of Conduct, which hampers development work.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chairman K Chandrashekar Rao also favoured simultaneous polls.

In his letter to the Law Commission, he wrote, "TRS is strongly in favour of holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and the State Legislative Assemblies."

Samajwadi Party also expressed its approval and said polls should be conducted in 2019.&nbsp;

The AIADMK said holding both the polls together is "desirable", but certain "practical" and "serious" issues need to be settled first.

The AIADMK, which rules Tamil Nadu, was of the view that if necessary&nbsp;simultaneous elections should be held in 2024 and not before that.&nbsp;

DMK working president MK Stalin&nbsp;in his letter to Law Commission&nbsp;stated that the party was of the firm opinion that the proposed call for simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and State Legislatures goes against the basic tenets of the Constitution.

The TMC also opposed the idea saying regional issues would be overshadowed by national issues, and national parties with their "money power" would steal the polls from smaller players.

The CPI, All India United Democratic Front, and Goa Forward Party also disapproved simultaneous polls.

The proposal for the simultaneous polls was supported by the BJP and the party has sought more time from the commission to present its view&nbsp;on the matter.

The Congress, on the other hand, said it would consult other Opposition parties on the subject before deciding its course of action.

Hyderabad police busted a high-profile prostitution racket at a hotel in the posh Banjara Hills locality here on Sunday. A 24-year-old budding film actress from Mumbai was also rescued following a raid, news agency PTI reported quoting police officials on Sunday.&nbsp

Two persons have been arrested in this connection, police added.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted the raid at the hotel last night and arrested the brothel organiser along with a customer, who is a government employee, a press release from police said.

They also rescued the film actress, who is a native of Agra, it said.

The accused A Janardhan Rao is a "habitual brothel organiser" and has previously indulged in luring upcoming film actress from Mumbai into "flesh trade" in and around Hyderabad.

During the investigation it was found that Rao and other absconding accused lured film actresses from Mumbai and other states for sexual exploitation on a weekly contract basis by paying them Rs 1 lakh for a week and they (accused) used to collect Rs 20,000 from each customer, the release added.&nbsp

The assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh have been largely a fight between the Congress and the BJP for decades, but quite a few other political outfits are gearing up to enter the poll arena to take on the Big Two.

Outfits like the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Samajwadi Party (SP), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Gondwana Ganatantra Party (GPP) and the newly floated SAPAKS Samaj, among others, are getting ready to throw their hats in the poll ring.

Madhya Pradesh, which has a 230-member assembly, is scheduled to go to the polls by the year-end.

The Congress, in opposition since 2003, has named its veteran leader and former Union minister Kamal Nath as the new state president as part of its efforts to strengthen the party and dislodge the BJP from power.

The BJP, too, has made changes in its organisation ahead of the polls. The party has appointed Rakesh Singh, the Lok Sabha MP from Jabalpur who has vast organisational experience, as its state unit chief.

The AAP has already sounded the poll bugle by announcing 39 candidates way ahead of the polls, stealing a march over others, at least in the selection of contestants.

The Delhi-based party has said it will contest all the 230 seats. AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal are scheduled to address a meeting at Indore on&nbsp;July 15, singling start of its campaign.

Besides, a rebel group of the Janata Dal (U), led by former Union minister Sharad Yadav, is working on stitching a broad alliance with parties like the GGP, which has pockets of influence in tribal areas, and its breakaway faction, the Bharatiya Gondwana Party (BGP).

The Samanya Pichhada Evam Alpsankhyak Varg Samaj (General, Backward and Minority Welfare Society), better known as SAPAKS Samaj, an organisation born out of opposition to the government's&nbsp;reservation policy in jobs, promotion and education, has also decided to contest all the 230 seats.

However, the BJP sees no threat from these smaller parties to its quest to retain power in the state and in fact thinks their presence will benefit it.

"Politics in Madhya Pradesh is largely confined to two major parties, the BJP and the Congress. Their (smaller parties) presence will benefit the BJP as they will divide the votes of the main opposition party (Congress)," state BJP spokesman Rajnish Agrawal told PTI.

"If the Congress goes with the BSP, it will benefit the latter and not the former. All of them will cut into the votes of the Congress and their presence will prove to be advantageous for the BJP," he said.

The Congress is looking for an alliance with like-minded parties to prevent a split in votes and stop the BJP's victory march.

State Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi said, Though politics in Madhya Pradesh is bi-polar in nature, the Congress may have a truck with the like-minded parties like the BSP and the SP to prevent a split of votes, especially of SCs/STs and backward classes."

"A decision on alliance will be taken by top leaders of parties concerned and once modalities are finalised, it will be announced," he said.

However, in the middle of June, the BSP had said it was not in talks with the Congress for an alliance in MP.

On the presence of AAP and SAPAKS Samaj, Chaturvedi said they will not have any impact on the poll outcome.

"We have already announced 39 candidates. We will declare more names in phases and contest all the 230 seats in the state," AAP MP convenor Alok Agrawal said.

The AAP is contesting assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh for the first time.

"The SAPAKS Samaj has decided to contest all the 230 seats in the year-end assembly polls," Hiralal Trivedi, SAPAKS Samaj patron and a retired IAS officer, had said last month.

In the undivided Madhya Pradesh (which had 320 seats), the BSP had won 11 assembly seats in 1998.

The party won just four seats in the last elections in 2013, but the Dalit outfit remains a major force in areas bordering Uttar Pradesh, a Congress leader said.

In the last assembly polls, the BJP had won 165 seats, while the Congress bagged 58. Their vote share was 44.48 per cent and 36.38 per cent, respectively.

Smaller parties gear up to take on 'Big Two' in Madhya Pradesh polls

India has conveyed to Russia its unwillingness to go ahead with the joint development of a fifth-generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) primarily due to the high cost involved in the project, official sources said.

They, however, said the negotiations between the two countries on the much ambitious project have not yet been shelved as India was ready to have a re-look at co-development of the jet if an appropriate cost-sharing formula between the two countries was arrived at.

India and Russia had signed an inter-governmental agreement for the mega project in 2007, vowing to take the military ties between the two strategic partners to the next level. However, the project has been stuck for the last 11 years as there have been serious differences between the two sides on sharing the&nbspcost of developing the jet, technologies to be used in it and number of aircraft to be produced.&nbsp

The sources said the cost of the project has been estimated at around USD 30 billion or Rs 2 lakh crore.&nbsp

"Our position on various aspect of the project, including the cost component, has been conveyed to the Russian side and there has been no resolution to the issues yet," a top official involved in the negotiations with Russia over the project said.&nbsp

In December 2010, India had agreed to pay USD 295 million towards the preliminary design of the fighter jet. Later, both sides had expressed intent to contribute each USD 6 billion for final design and production of the aircraft in the first phase.

However, they could not come out with a final agreement on it.&nbsp

"We have not closed our door on the project," the sources said.

It is learnt that India was insisting on equal rights over the technology to be used in the aircraft but Russia was not ready to share all the critical technologies of the plane with New Delhi.

In the negotiations for the project, India had insisted that it must get all the required codes and access to critical technology so that it can upgrade the aircraft as per its requirements, sources said.

In February 2016, both the countries had revived talks on the project after a clearance from the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

Sources said both sides were attempting to thrash out the sticky issues but added that India was not optimistic that the project will fructify due to the cost involved in the project.&nbsp

Interestingly, state-run aerospace behemoth Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) is strongly pitching for the fifth-generation fighter jet project. The HAL feels the multi-billion dollar project will provide India with a significant opportunity to encourage its aerospace sector as no country has ever offered such critical technologies to India.

There have been indications from the Indian Air Force that it was not very keen to pursue the project in view of the high cost.

India reconsidering Rs 2 lakh crore 5th generation fighter jet programme with Russia

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today condoled the death of an Indian student during an attempted robbery in Kansas City in the US and assured all required assistance to the family of the deceased.

According to authorities in Kansas, Sharath Koppu, who hails from Telangana, was fatally shot during a suspected incident of a robbery at a restaurant where he worked. He died shortly after being taken to a hospital&nbspon Friday.

"Kansas incident - My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We will follow this up with the Police and provide all assistance to the family," Swaraj tweeted.&nbsp

Koppu from Telangana was a software engineer who came to the US in January to pursue his master's degree.

"An Indian student became a victim of shooting in Kansas City, Missouri. We r in contact with his family & police. We will provide all assistance. Our officers are also on the way to Kansas City (sic)," the Consulate General of India in Chicago tweeted yesterday.

Prohibitory orders were imposed yesterday in some areas in Moreh sub-division of Manipur following unrest over reports of alleged shifting of an India-Myanmar border pillar into the Indian territory.

"We have come across media reports stating that certain boundary pillars in the Manipur sector of the India-Myanmar international boundary have been allegedly shifted. These reports are completely baseless and unsubstantiated," Kumar said, in response to a question on the issue.&nbsp

He said that sector of the international boundary is settled and there is no confusion about its alignment.&nbsp

"Recently, routine survey work has been carried out jointly by the Indian and Myanmarese survey departments during which work on the construction of subsidiary pillars in between already settled main boundary pillars 81 and 82 along zero line, that is, agreed and settled international boundary, has also been undertaken," the MEA spokesperson said.&nbsp

He said this has been done with the objective of appraising the local residents on both sides of the border of the exact alignment of the international boundary and the Manipur government has been involved in the entire exercise.&nbsp

"This work is in consonance with the provisions of the India-Myanmar Boundary Agreement of 1967, to which both governments are fully committed," Kumar said.

"My cousin (Sharath Koppu) moved to the USA in January this year, after he received a full scholarship to study at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Last night, we got to know that he was brutally killed by gunshots fired by unknown people around 8 pm (USA time). This is a very sad day for all of us," said the victim's cousin, Sandeep Vemulakonda.

The police is delving into occult, psychology, superstition and latest investigative techniques to crack one of the most sensational cases in the national capital in the recent times.

It's been a week since 11 members of the Burari-based Chundawat family were found dead under mysterious circumstances inside their house.&nbsp

At the centre of all this is a family, the neighbours remember as "sweet, helpful and religious", one that was looking forward to Priyanka Bhatia's marriage, "the first wedding among the children" and had even started preparations for the big day that was scheduled in December.

Last Sunday, when people were lazing around in the comfort of their homes, news channels suddenly started flashing about the deaths of 11 members of a family in north Delhi's Burari.

With their faces covered in pieces of white cloth and mouths taped and hands and legs tied, a video showing 10 members hanging, was anything but gory. The family matriarch was found lying in another room with ligature marks on her neck.

'Was it a murder or a suicide?', 'If it was a murder, who were the persons involved in executing such a brutal murder&nbspand what was the motive?, 'If the family had committed suicide, what could be the reason that could have driven 11 members to take such an extreme step?' --- myriad questions like these are doing the rounds but neither the investigators nor the family's close ones had any clue.

The family members kept alleging that it was a murder but found it hard to point to a motive while dismissing suicide theories saying that the family was a "prosperous one" and had no "financial issues".

The investigators registered a murder case since the 77-year-old Narayan Devi was found lying in a room on the floor, and initially it was suspected she had been strangulated but the initial autopsy report suggested that all the members had died of hanging, more or less cementing the fact that it was a case of suicide.

But the mystery lingered as to why a prosperous family, that was doing well for itself, would take such an extreme step.

The answers were found in notes recovered from the house by the police which had writings about 'badh tapasya', getting into a banyan-tree like formation to attain something great, finding the 'road to God' and detailed notes about tying feet and hands, and covering mouths to appease God.

More morbid details emerged as it was found in the notes that Lalit Singh Chundawat, Narayan Devi's younger son, had started getting "visitations" from his father, who had died in 2007" and it was on his instructions that from March this years, notes about replicating "badh tapasya" were being written.

It had also mentioned that the members would not die and Lalit's father's spirit would come and save them.

"The sky and earth will start shaking but you need not fear. I will come and rescue you," one of the notes mentions.

Lalit's elder brother, Dinesh Singh Chundawat, who lives in Kota, Rajasthan and his sister, Sujata Nagpal, who lives in Panipat, told the police that they had no idea about the notes or the 11 registers maintained by their families in the last 11 years.

"Dinesh started sweating when we showed him photocopies of the notes. He said that he had no idea about the notes or registers," said one of the investigators.

Some family members of Lalit's wife Tina, however, told police that they had heard Lalit being visited by his father's spirit and him assuming his father's alter-ego. The family, meanwhile, has accused media of portraying them as one that practices occult.

Police, who had unofficially consulted doctors at VIMHANS for the case, was informed that the family could have been suffering from 'shared psychosis', in which one person's delusional beliefs are shared by others.

But how could it be that no one opposed Lalit, not even one of his elder brother's daughters, who was pursuing Masters in Forensics?

"Delusional people are quite convincing, experts have told us. Lalit was quite loving towards his family but he exercised considerable control over the family, including his elder brother.

"The children would not even try to disobey what he said, probably because they thought he was like their grandfather," said an officer.

With things pointing towards psychological issues as being at the centre of the tragedy, the police are likely to carry out a psychological autopsy, a relatively new investigative technique earlier adopted in Sunanda Pushkar death case and Aarushi Talwar murder case.

A police officer said that a psychological autopsy is a secondary form of an investigation but it is admissible as evidence, as is clear from Pushkar's case in which the police filed the charge sheet, on the basis of it.

In psychological autopsy, there is a reconstruction of the psychological state of the deceased just before or in the final moments of death based on interviews of the victims kin, narratives of the social and occupational contacts and other records.

It may extend backwards to a few weeks or months.

"But here the difficulty is that it is not just about one individual, there are 11 members and no family member living in that house is alive and so the reconstruction will be limited. However, there are plenty of written records, an analysis of which will confirm the impressions the police already seem to have made," IHBAS director Nimesh Desai said.

Police are now awaiting the post-mortem report so that they can initiate the process of a psychological autopsy.

Burari death mystery continues to intensify, yet to be cracked

Cracks seem to have emerged in the four-decade-old CPI(M)-led Left Front, with a section of its leaders advocating "adjustment" with the Congress in West Bengal while their allies are opposed to the idea.

Miffed over the CPI(M)'s growing affinity with the Congress, once its arch-rival, allies such as the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB), the Revolutionary Socialist Party(RSP) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) have expressed reservations over "any understanding" with the grand old party.

The AIFB and the CPI have even threatened to quit the Front if the CPI(M) went ahead with the Congress for the 2019 general election.

"We have told the CPI(M) clearly that we will walk out of the Front if there is an alliance or understanding with the Congress. We are opposed to both the Congress and the BJP. For us, both represent the ruling class," AIFB state secretary Naren Chatterjee told PTI.

"In the 2016 assembly polls, when the CPI(M) entered into a seat-sharing adjustment with the Congress, we suffered badly. The adjustment has been disastrous for us and beneficial for the Congress," Chatterjee said.

The nine-party-strong Left Front, which was in power in West Bengal for 34 years between 1977 and 2011, comprises CPI(M), RSP, CPI and Forward Bloc as its major partners.

A section of West Bengal Congress unit has shown an inclination to forge a tie-up with Left parties for defeating the BJP in 2019.

The Left Front enjoys considerable support in West Bengal. In 2016, the CPI(M) had secured 19.8 per cent votes, CPI bagged 1.5 per cent, RSP 1.7 per cent and AIFB 2.8 per cent.

According to senior Left Front leaders, the RSP, the FB and the CPI had opposed the idea of forming a coalition with the Congress, even before the 2016 Assembly polls.

It was at the insistence of a section of CPI(M) leaders, who had floated the idea of "people's alliance", that the Front partners gave in to the proposal, they said.

The CPI, which doesn't have any reservation in entering into an electoral understanding with the Congress in other states, said the political situation in Bengal is "totally different" and an understanding with the grand old party here would prove 'fatal' for both the CPI(M) and other Left Front partners.

"From our previous experience, we can say that the Congress had failed to transfer its votes to the Left in case of an adjustment. It was proved in 2016 assembly polls as well as the recent Maheshtala by-poll," CPI state secretary Swapan Banerjee said.

The LF-Congress combine in 2016 had failed to put up a creditable performance against Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress as it won only 76 seats in the 294-member-strong state assembly.

The Left Front, which had won just 32 seats, lost its position as the 'main opposition party' to the Congress, which bagged 44 seats.

The RSP went a step ahead, saying that the Left Front was not a "personal property" of the CPI(M).

"Although time is not ripe to comment on the issue of adjustment, we feel that the Left Front should fight on its own to regain its lost ground," RSP state secretary Kshiti Goswami told PTI.

When contacted, several top CPI(M) leaders declined to comment on the issue and said it was too early to say anything on such matters.

"We have always advocated a strong Left Front. We don't want to talk about this matter as of now. Let the time come, everything can be sorted through discussions," said a senior CPI(M) leader.

The CPI(M) in its last party Congress at Hyderabad in April had adopted a political line, which stated that the party will not forge a political alliance with the Congress, but might strike an "understanding" inside and outside Parliament to defeat "communal forces" in the country.

State Congress president Adhir Chowdhury, when asked about his opinion on the issue, refused to comment on "internal matters" of the Left Front.

He, however, quipped that most of the "allies of Left Front are dependent on the CPI(M)" for winning elections.&nbsp;

Opposition's "fear-mongering" campaign has been "demolished" by the government's development without discrimination approach, Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said today, and exuded confidence that 30-35 per cent minorities, including Muslims, will vote for the BJP in 2019.

Maintaining that the NDA government has worked for the development of minorities, he said there is a belief among these communities that Prime Minister Narendra Modi stands for development.

Mr Naqvi said that when the BJP had come to power in 2014, the opposition parties tried to create a trust deficit and indulged in "fear-mongering".

"We can't say that the poison that had been spread in the last 70 years, we have completely eradicated that. But, the positive thing is that now the minorities are treating the BJP as a reality of Indian politics and they are supporting it on the basis of its merit and demerits," he said.

In the 2014 elections, 18-20 per cent people from the minority communities had voted for PM Modi, Mr Naqvi said.

"In the 2019 polls, I am expecting 30-35 per cent people from the minority communities, including Muslims, will vote for the BJP to continue the development journey of the country," the minister said.

Mr Naqvi, who handles the Minority Affairs Ministry, also claimed that no big communal riot has taken place since PM Modi has taken over.

"No big communal riot happened in the country (under this government)...It has been our endeavour that the atmosphere in the country remains fear-free and there is harmony among all sections of the society, and along with that there is no criminal, terrorist and communal activity in any part of the country," he said.

He alleged that there was an effort to create "fabricated" fear through measures such as the 'award wapsi' programme and other accusatory political statements.

Mr Naqvi also claimed that in the 10 years of the UPA rule, about 530 innocent Muslims were sent to jail after being dubbed as terrorists.

Asked if the government had done enough to win over the minorities, especially Muslims, he said when the BJP came to power, its political opponents tried to create wrong perceptions in the minds of the minorities.

Their first campaign was that with the coming of the Modi government, India's relationship with the Arab countries and some other nations will be dented and Muslims will not be safe.

"But that campaign has been demolished. If you see from Arab to America, from Africa to Australia, every country has strong faith in India's leadership under Prime Minister Modi," he said.

The government has worked for the development of minorities without any discrimination, Mr Naqvi asserted.

Mumbaikars had to cancel their weekend plans due to the heavy rains. Interestingly, the weekends and Mumbai rains seem to be in sync as this is not the first time that a heavy downpour was witnessed on Saturday and Sunday.&nbsp;

The Twitter account which was made after Mehbooba Mufti submitted her resignation on June 19 has been receiving complaints about issues which were considered "dead and buried".

The complaints received via the Twitter handle @jandkgovernor range from Mufti removing the director of super-speciality SKIMS hospital and nominating in-service professors as members of the governing council to former speaker and BJP leader Kavinder Gupta's doctor allegedly getting appointed through the back door.

PDP youth president Wahid-ur-Rehman Para, who was working as Secretary, JK State Sports Council, is also accused of "adjusting" 250 people in various government departments and public sector undertakings.

"Ex-CM Sahiba (Mehbooba)ruined SKIMS & violated all norms by nominating in-service professors (friends of Dr Manzoor rather) as GB (governing body) members, then victimised all who raised voice - prof Ahangar suspended as Director, my resignation was forced, promotion of 4 others stopped," Altaf G Haji, an Onco surgeon tweeted to Vohra.

Another Twitter user brought to Governor's notice the allegations made by a sitting PDP MLA, who had recently revolted against Mufti, about the wrongdoings committed by Para.

"A quota of 250 seats were given to Waheed-ur- Rehman Parra and he adjusted his nears and dears in JK Bank, JKP, Youth Service and Sports and other departments, Ansari alleged. We request Governor for an immediate inquiry commision," Syed Ishfaq wrote.

Pawan Sharma brought to Vohra's notice the appointment of Charu Gupta, daughter of Kavinder Gupta as Dental Surgeon, under the National Health Mission.

"No notification, special(ly) crafted posted filled with blink and here general public has to hustle till they get broke to get a single job(.) hope u'll open this case," Sharma said while referring to the appointment.

Vohra's office, through the official Twitter handle, informed all these complainants that a report has been sought from the departments concerned.

A Twitter user from Jammu asked the Governor to start registering the Rohingya refugees in the state in view of national security.

"Sir, please register Rohingya's in Jammu region as they do it in west for the security of their nation. Issue them temporary refugee cards so that their activities are monitored.. Otherwise, they will just indulge in anti-India activities. It's high time now," wrote Pratiba Koul.

Another user brought to Vohra's notice the images of Amarnath pilgrims making a line to answer the call of nature on the banks of Dal Lake while heading towards the Baltal base camp.

The photographs went viral on social media here and many netizens called for making the pilgrims aware about the need to protect the environment before they embark on a pilgrimage.

A Twitter user sought Governor's help in getting the horticulture department and other agencies concerned to address the "Alternaria Leaf blotch" -- a fungal disease -- affecting the orchards in Anantnag district.

Vohra's attention was also drawn towards an alleged incident of mass felling of Walnut trees, an offence if done without permission from the authorities concerned, in Budgam district and the "plight of the Bemina area" in terms of development, despite being less than 10 kilometres from the Civil Secretariat -- the seat of state government.

In these cases also, the Governor's office informed the complainants that a written report has been sought from the departments concerned.

While some observers feel that the citizens have more faith in Governor's rule than an elected government, many are cynical about the outcome of reaching directly to the Raj Bhavan with complaints.

"Let us see what action the Governor takes on these complaints ... How many wrong decisions he is able reverse, especially in case of backdoor appointments. Otherwise, we have seen these accountability exercises in the past as well but no action has ever been taken," Shahid Ahmad, a Srinagar resident, said.&nbsp;

The yatra however remained suspended from the Baltal route due to its slippery track. The pilgrims who had registered for this route were not allowed to leave the Bhagwati Nagar base camp for the valley.

"The 8th batch of 2,203 Pahalgam-bound pilgrims, including 311 women, left in a convoy of 51 vehicles from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp at around 0240 hours and are expected to reach the base camp in Anantnag district of south Kashmir later in the day," a police official said.

The yatra was suspended due to the inclement weather in Kashmir on Thursday. The heavy rains in the region&nbspwere followed by flashflood and landslides and shooting of stones.&nbsp

Due to the suspension, thousands of pilgrims were stranded in Jammu.

The Jammu Divisional Commissioner had said that arrangments regarding healthcare, sanitation, uninterrupted water and power supply for the comfortable stay of the pilgrims were made.

"The administration at the highest level is monitoring the safety, health and comfort of the yatris and the officers are on round the clock duty for security and other arrangements made for Yatra," he said.

The 60-day annual yatra commenced on June 28 and 73,023 pilgrims had 'darshan' of the naturally formed ice-shivlingam at the cave shrine till last evening.

Amarnath yatra resumes from Jammu after two day suspension

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor was today granted regular bail by a Delhi court in his wife Sunanda Pushkar's death case.

The Thiruvananthapuram MP, who was summoned as an accused in the case, appeared before the court and informed it that he had already been granted anticipatory bail in the case by a sessions court on July 5.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal then directed him to furnish a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh and one surety of like amount as directed by the sessions court and converted the interim relief to regular bail.

He was also directed not to leave the country without permission, nor to tamper with evidence or try to influence the witnesses.

Both the Public prosecutor and Tharoor's counsel opposed the applications moved by senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy seeking Court's nod to allow him to assist the prosecution and a direction to the Delhi police to produce the vigilance inquiry report.

While Tharoor's counsels questioned Swamy's locus standi in the whole matter, the court set 26th July as the date for the scrutiny of documents and consideration of the application.

On Wednesday, the court reserved its order on Tharoor's anticipatory bail plea in connection with the same. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) opposed Tharoor's anticipatory bail plea.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor was today granted regular bail by a Delhi court in his wife Sunanda Pushkar's death case. The Thiruvananthapuram MP, who was summoned as an accused in the case, appeared before the court and informed it that he had already been granted anticipatory bail in the case by a sessions court on July 5. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal then directed him to furnish a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh and one surety of like amount as directed by the sessions court and converted the interim relief to regular bail. He was also directed not to leave the country without permission, nor to tamper with evidence or try to influence the witnesses. Both the Public prosecutor and Tharoor's counsel opposed the applications moved by senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy seeking Court's nod to allow him to assist the prosecution and a direction to the Delhi police to produce the vigilance inquiry report. While Tharoor's counsels questioned Swamy's locus standi in the whole matter, the court set 26th July as the date for the scrutiny of documents and consideration of the application.
