After climbing the fourth level of the Doordarshan Tower, Ajay Paswan made a phone call to the fire brigade and the police control rooms from his mobile. Following the officials' arrival,&nbsp;he&nbsp;demanded for TV reporters.&nbsp;

The officials later tricked and brought him down by putting up dummy video cameras on the ground.&nbsp;

Paswan who had climbed the tower at midnight was brought down at around 7 am.

He worked as a driver before and lost his job last month.&nbsp;

Mumbai: Jobless man climbs Doordarshan tower for media coverage

According to Malaysian media, controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik met Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad earlier today.&nbsp;

Naik is wanted by the Indian government for inciting communal disharmony and committing unlawful activities in India. Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Friday said that Naik will not be deported to India.

Meanwhile, Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said that the extradition request of Naik made by India is under the active consideration of the Malaysian government.&nbsp;

"We had made a formal request for the extradition of Zakir Naik, who is an Indian national living in Malaysia, as per the extradition treaty we have with Malaysia. At this stage, our request is under the active consideration of Malaysian side," MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar noted.&nbsp;

Naik is facing probe both in India and Bangladesh after two of the suspects in the terror attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka in July 2016 claimed that they were inspired by Naik's radical preachings, adding that they were staunch followers of Naik on Facebook and on the Peace Television Channel. The terror attack had left 22 people dead.

The MEA has cancelled Naik's passport and had asked Malaysia to hand over the Islamic preacher to India.

The engineering and medical entrance exams JEE and NEET would now be cconductedonline and twice a year by the newly formed National Testing Agency (NTA), news agency PTI reported quoting HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said on Saturday.

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination (NEET) will be held by newly formed examination conducting agency, NTA, Javdekar told reporters.

The NTA would conduct its first exam NET, that was till now conducted by the CBSE, in December, he added.

JEE (Mains) would be conducted twice a year, in January and April. NEET (UG) would be conducted in February and May, the minister said.

The NTA would also conduct National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) and Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test(GPAT), Javadekar said.

CMAT and GPAT would be conducted in January next year.

The students can appear both the times in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and JEE (Mains) and the best of the two scores would be taken in account for admission, the minister said. NEET is conducted for admissions to medical institutions across the country.

"This will give more chances to students thereby giving adequate opportunity to bring out his/her best and reduce stress which develops due to a single exam being conducted on one day in the year. However, sitting in both the tests will not be compulsory," he said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that she is not averse to working with the Congress to oust the BJP government at the centre which is behaving like "a hundred Hitlers".

The TMC president, in an interview to a magazine, said she shares very good relations with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi but has never worked with Congress President Rahul Gandhi, whom she described as "much junior".

To questions about prime ministerial ambitions, Banerjee said she has "no intent". However, she was ambivalent when asked if she was not ruling herself out of the race.

"Instead of preparing for PM candidature, let us work together," she said in the interview to India Today which was posted on its website.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief said she has no problems working with anybody as long as their intentions and philosophy are clear.

On her ties with the Congress leadership, Banerjee said, "What I can say about Rajivji or Soniaji I cannot say about Rahul because he is much junior."

"I don't have any problem. My intention will be to unite with all. But it is not my decision alone. It has to be the decision of all the regional parties. I have no problem working with anybody as long as they are efficient, and their intentions, their philosophy, their ideology are clear," she said when asked if she is not averse to dealing with the Congress or having an understanding with the party.

Banerjee, while speaking on the issue of some Opposition parties wanting to forge a federal front without the Congress, noted that some parties don't support the Congress as they have their own regional compulsions.

"I don't blame them. I say let's work against the BJP together. If the Congress is strong and gets more seats in some places, let it take the lead. If the regional parties are together somewhere else, they can be the decision-makers," she said.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi had yesterday held individual meetings with senior party leaders from West Bengal in the national capital to know their views on strengthening the state unit and on the way forward ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year.

A section of Congress leaders has shown an inclination to have a tie-up with the TMC in West Bengal which has a total of 42 Lok Sabha seats. PCC chief Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, however, is not in favour of party having any truck with Mamata Banerjee's party.

The TMC chief expressed confidence that a grand alliance of opposition parties is possible.

On her idea of fielding a common candidate against the BJP, she said, "I am not saying that. If it is done for 75 seats, then the game will be over. If (BSP supremo) Mayawati and (SP chief) Akhilesh (Yadav) work together in Uttar Pradesh, the game will be over. Then after the elections, a common minimum agenda can be prepared. It is a big family, let it be a collective decision."

Asked about the possibility of becoming the prime minister, she said, "Me? It is a very silly question. First I will say I have no intent. I told you, I am a simple person and happy with my job. But we want to help everybody as members of a collective family. Instead of preparing for PM candidature, let us work together."

On whether she is not ruling herself out, she said, "Who am I to rule out anything? I know I am a seasoned politician, a very senior politician now, after my struggles. I have been MP seven times, MLA twice and a CM twice. So I cannot say anything that others may not like".

In his tweet, Sinha stated that he does not approve of his son's actions. He further stated that earlier he was called the "useless father of a useless son, but now the roles are reversed".

Every house will get tap water under Nal Jal Scheme, stated Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

"I promise every village will have drinking water through river Narmada. Our daughters will not have to get water from hand pumps anymore," said Chief Minister Chouhan, at an event on Friday.

Chanting "Ghar Ghar Narmada, Har Har Narmada", Chouhan further said that the scheme will benefit 60 lakh people, who will have direct access to clean water.

"60 lakh people will have access to clean drinking water by this year, under the Nal Jal scheme. We are installing pipelines in as many places as we can. Every village will have drinking water in their homes under this scheme. I will ensure it happens," said Chouhan.

Chouhan also announced Rs. 2,200 crore scheme for irrigation.&nbsp;

Lanka Dinakar, spokesperson of Telugu Desam Party, on Friday said that the Andhra Pradesh cabinet would file a counter on the affidavit filed by the Union Ministry of Finance to the Supreme Court in respect to the implementation of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, assurances on all the commitments made to the state.

"We firmly believe that the information provided by the Central government is flawed, as far as the assets and liabilities bifurcation is concerned the progress is not yet spelled out in the affidavit, as well as schedule 9 and schedule 10 properties bifurcation," Dinakar said.

The Andhra cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, on Friday, had a discussion over the Centre's gross negligence against the state.

According to them, Center's additional counter affidavit filed in the Supreme Court is full of lies. It is a criminal act. The state will hold a discussion with legal experts and proceed accordingly. The cabinet is unanimous on this matter.

Dinakar further said that due to practical constraints of the 14th Finance Commission, there is no special state category status.

"There is no special category status as per the 14th financial commission recommendation," he said, demanding the implementation of the same.

He further spoke on the houses inaugurated by the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and being handed over to the beneficiaries.

"More than three lakh houses have been constructed for the poor. The people are rejoicing," he said.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Member of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council Yasir Reshi issued a statement in solidarity with the views of his colleagues, expressing a desire to find an alternative to the traditional two-family system in Jammu and Kashmir.

"I am in complete conformity with views expressed recently by my colleagues, to find an alternative to traditional two-family system. The state needs respite from the tried, tested and failed two-family power-sharing model," read the statement released by Reshi on Friday.

Reshi also said it is the need of the hour to build a consensus on leadership to counter the challenges the state is facing.

"The need of the hour is to rise to the occasion and collectively, cutting across party lines, build a consensus on a leadership which has the capacity to counter the challenges of governance, law and societal distress in the state," added Reshi.

Earlier this week, PDP leader Imran Raza Ansari lashed out at former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and accused her of obliterating the party by promoting nepotism. He also hinted at exiting the party.

The statements come amid speculations of an alliance between PDP and the Congress party and together, with the support of other smaller parties and independents, they may seek to form a new government in the state.

However, Mehbooba Mufti on July 3 rubbished rumours of PDP-Congress alliance in Jammu and Kashmir. She took to Twitter to clear the air about the possibility of an alliance between the two parties.

On June 19, the Bharatiya Janata Party pulled out of its alliance with Mehbooba Mufti's PDP in Jammu and Kashmir, following which Mufti submitted her resignation as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

WION: Why is Congress leaders are split on the issue of alliance with Left and TMC? Why are the views on this issue extreme?

Gaurav Gogoi: Congress has been in alliance with both Left and TMC in the past. Each had its cost and benefit. Our aim is to defeat BJP in 2019 and see Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister. All MLAs and MPs met Rahul Gandhi on Friday. It is normal to have divergent views on this issue. He heard all of them out. But I must say that Congress is still a united house in West Bengal.

WION: What is your feedback on the issue of an alliance?

Gaurav Gogoi: It is a work in progress. I have recently taken charge and only visited the state twice. I have been to the southern part. I also need to visit areas where Congress is strong. I’m still meeting workers and district level functionaries to take their feedback. We want to tell them that AICC will only come to a final conclusion on the issue of an alliance once there feedback is on board. The biggest challenge for us is that we have been in the Opposition for so long.

WION: BJP has emerged a challenge in West Bengal. Aren’t you afraid that in long run, West Bengal can go the Tripura way?

Gaurav Gogoi: BJP’s strength in West Bengal stems from its ability to polarise. BJP is ruining the secular composition of the Bengali society. Its campaign is impacting the composite culture of the state. Their only aim is to divide the society. My understanding is that national mood which has become visible through by-election results in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh will also manifest itself in West Bengal. Congress is determined to stop BJP both at the Centre and state.

WION: Is there a possibility of Congress going alone?

Gaurav Gogoi: My vision is that there should be a time when Congress should be strong enough to stand alone. We will need to have a particular strategy for it. But I don’t think it is possible in the context of 2019 Lok Sabha elections. It is too short a time for Congress to go alone in West Bengal.

WION: How is Congress different from the rest in West Bengal and what are your objectives?

Gaurav Gogo: We want to be a differentiator in terms of leadership and organisation from both Left and TMC. We want to engage with section ranging from intellectuals to Adivasis to farmers. But all these things take time when you have not been in power for a long time.

WION: Despite the fact that many Congress cadres were&nbsp;at the receiving end from TMC during Panchayat election, a section of Congress leaders want a truck with TMC?

Gaurav Gogo: Our cadres were beaten. Senior leaders were also targeted. They were subject to violence. I condemn the violence and state government should have done better. It violates democratic norms.

It's too short a time for Congress to go alone in West Bengal: Gaurav Gogoi

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested two senior retired officers of Bank of India in an alleged loan fraud of approximately Rs 2,654 crore by a Vadodara-based firm.

Both the arrested accused will be produced on Saturday before Ahmedabad Trial Court.

According to CBI, allegedly the then AGM (who subsequently retired as General Manager) and the then DGM had shown undue favour in the sanction of the working capital limits to a Vadodara based private firm in the year 2008.

It was also alleged that both the officials were responsible for processing and recommending the working capital limits to the tune of Rs. 53.40 crore (approx.), in violation of the guidelines of the bank.

They were also allegedly responsible for disbursal of the limits, without ensuring the compliance of the conditions stipulated in the sanction.

CBI had registered the case against the same.

It was further alleged that the said private company engaged in the manufacture of cables and other electrical equipment, through its management, had fraudulently availed Credit Facilities from a Consortium of 11 Banks (Public Sector and Private Sector) since 2008, with an outstanding amount of Rs. 2654.40 crore as on June 29, 2016.

The banks include Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, ICICI Bank, Allahabad Bank, Axis Bank, Dena Bank, SBI, IOB, IFCI, EXIM Bank of India and Corporation Bank and other financial institutions.

The company and its directors allegedly managed to get the term loans and credit facilities in spite of the fact that they were already appearing in the Reserve Banks of India's defaulters List and ECGC Caution List at the time of initial sanction of Credit Limits by the Consortium.

Searches were conducted on April 5, 2018, at various locations in Vadodara, including official and residential premises of accused.

The chairman, managing director and joint managing director of the Vadodara based private firm were earlier arrested on April 18, 2018.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao announced that the government is ready to go ahead with the report on the implementation of self-employment schemes for backward and most backward classes.

He has directed the officials to implement the schemes worth Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh as a grant, without any bank linkage.

KCR has further instructed the ministers and officials to hold a meeting on Saturday with the Legislative Assembly speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary to finalise the strategy for the implementation of welfare schemes for backward and most-backward classes.

Telangana has achieved 19.83 per cent growth rate during the first quarter of the 2018-19 financial year.

According to the officials, in the last four financial years, Telangana has registered highest revenue growth in the country and it is a positive dimension for the state as it is growing even in 2018-19.

The Chief Minister aims to have 119 new residential schools, one in every assembly constituency of Telangana by 2019. To achieve the aforementioned, the government is increasing the number of schools in a phased manner.

He further said that the Schedule Castes, Schedule Tribe, Backward Classes, and minorities are functioning excellently.

A High-level review meeting to finalise the strategy for the implementation of Haritha Haram for 2019 will also be held on Saturday. Haritha Haran is the large-scale tree planting programme of the government.

The Chief Minister further added that a plan will be finalised for the plantation of 100 crore saplings from 2019 and the number of nurseries will increase.

KCR to implement self-employment schemes for backward classes

Three civilians were killed and as many injured after security forces allegedly opened fire on protesters during clashes as they tried to conduct a search operation in Redwani village of south Kashmir.&nbsp;

Among the killed is a teenage girl, who has been identified as Andleeb, daughter of Ali Mohammad.&nbsp;

Official sources told WION that army's patrolling party opened fire on a group of youth after they pelted stones on them in Hawoora area of Khudwani near Redwani area.

Six civilians were injured in the firing they&nbsp;were rushed to a local hospital where three succumbed to their injuries.&nbsp;

The other deceased have been identified as Shakir Ahmad Khanday, 22, son of Mohd Hussain Khanday and Irshad Ahmad, 20, son of Abdul Majeed from Kulgam district.

After the death of the civilians, protests erupted in the area and were going on till the last report came in.

The death of the three persons has triggered further protests, due to which the government has suspended internet services in the area.

The Valley was observing a shutdown today on the call given by separatists against the detention of woman separatist Asiya Andrabi by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The shutdown is expected to continue till Sunday, on the second death anniversary of slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani.

The CBI has filed a charge-sheet against five men including Unnao MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar`s brother Atul Singh Sengar in a case related to the death of a gangrape victim`s father in police custody in Uttar Pradesh`s Unnao, an official said on Saturday. 
 
Jai Deep Singh alias Atul Singh Sengar, Vineet Mishra alias Vinay Mishra, Birendra Singh alias Bauwa, Ram Sharan Singh alias Sonu and Shashi Pratap Singh are chargesheeted under Section 302 (murder), Section 506 (criminal intimidation), Section 147 (rioting) and Section 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon) of the India Penal Code. 
 
Section 149 (unlawful assembly), Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 34 (criminal act done with common intention) and Section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) are the other sections.&nbsp 
 
All are residents of Sarai Thok Makhi of Unnao and are currently in judicial custody.&nbsp

The girl`s father was being forced to withdraw the case against the MLA. Upon his refusal, he was picked up by police and was allegedly roughed up by Atul Singh and his aides while in custody.

The incident triggered a political storm and public outrage in the state. A magisterial probe has also been ordered by the district administration.

CBI files chargesheet in Unnao gangrape victim father's custodial death

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Friday interrogated a `tantrik` (occultist), named Geeta Maa, in connection with the <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/burari-deaths-cctv-footage-shows-family-members-brought-stools-wires-used-for-hanging-149113">deaths of 11 members of a family</a> in the city's <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/burari-deaths-police-to-go-for-psychological-autopsy-of-deceased-149446">Burari area</a> on Sunday.

"Geeta Maa is the daughter of the contractor who had built the home of Lalit, the 45-year-old man believed to have planned the mass suicide," a police source said.

As many as 130 people have been interrogated till now regarding the Burari deaths.

The police also questioned the family`s neighbours, relatives, and fiance of Priyanka - one of the 11 members of the family.

"Priyanka`s fiance does not know anything about this case. Police have also recovered nine mobile phones. Also, a draft map of the crime location was made today," the source said.

Earlier in the day, it was revealed that the Delhi Police Crime Branch will conduct a psychological autopsy of the 11 members of the family.

Few of the members might have been suffering from "mental disorder," a source earlier said.

This comes after it was revealed that the police had found two registers which contain details of a `Badh puja` ritual.

Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Alok Kumar on Monday said that post-mortem of all the 11 bodies have been completed, and initial reports suggest suicide.

The bodies of seven women and four men were found in a house in Burari area on Sunday morning.&nbsp;

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Friday interrogated a `tantrik` (occultist), named Geeta Maa, in connection with the deaths of 11 members of a family in the city's Burari area on Sunday. "Geeta Maa is the daughter of the contractor who had built the home of Lalit, the 45-year-old man believed to have planned the mass suicide," a police source said. As many as 130 people have been interrogated till now regarding the Burari deaths. The police also questioned the family`s neighbours, relatives, and fiance of Priyanka - one of the 11 members of the family. "Priyanka`s fiance does not know anything about this case. Police have also recovered nine mobile phones. Also, a draft map of the crime location was made today," the source said. Earlier in the day, it was revealed that the Delhi Police Crime Branch will conduct a psychological autopsy of the 11 members of the family. Few of the members might have been suffering from "mental disorder," a source earlier said. This comes after it was revealed that the police had found two registers which contain details of a `Badh puja` ritual. Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Alok Kumar on Monday said that post-mortem of all the 11 bodies have been completed, and initial reports suggest suicide. The bodies of seven women and four men were found in a house in Burari area on Sunday morning.

He also said, "The other thing is that surprisingly the Delhi police counsel, the public prosecutor said this vigilance report has nothing to do with Sunanda's case which is rubbish. It is centrally and totally on how the evidence was destroyed."

Earlier in the day, a Delhi Court granted bail to Shashi Tharoor in connection with the case.

A Patiala House Court Judge had said, "There is no requirement to file a formal bail. Anticipatory bail had been granted by the Session's Court."

The public prosecutor and Tharoor's counsels opposed the applications moved by Swamy seeking the court's nod to allow him to assist the prosecution in the case and a direction to the police to produce the report of vigilance inquiry conducted earlier.

Tharoor's counsels questioned Swamy's locus standi in the case.

The court has set July 26 as the date for the scrutiny of documents and consideration of the application.

A class 9 girl has alleged that she was raped and blackmailed by her school's principal, two teachers and 16 students in Bihar's Saran district, police said on Saturday.

The principal and a teacher were arrested and four students apprehended for allegedly raping and blackmailing the girl, Superintendent of Police (Saran) Harkishore Rai told.

In her complaint, the girl alleged that she was raped and subsequently blackmailed for seven months by the principal, two teachers and 16 students.

The school is located in Parsagarh village which comes under the jurisdiction of Ekma police station of Saran district, about 35 km from the district headquarters of Chapra.

The SP has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Singh, who visited the school yesterday, and made the arrests.

Raids are being conducted to apprehend the other accused, the SP added.

In the complaint, the victim alleged that she was first raped by some of the students of her school in a toilet there in December 2017, Rai said.

The students also recorded a video of the act and threatened her to make it viral if she reported the matter to anyone, he said.

When the victim complained to the principal about the incident, he convinced and persuaded her not to lodge a complaint as the matter would bring disrepute to her and the family, the SP said.

The principal along with two teachers, later, also raped and blackmailed her, the girl alleged.

The victim told reporters today that she could not muster the courage to lodge a complaint with the police since her father was in jail for several months.

The girl's father was released from jail a couple of days ago and a complaint was lodged yesterday.&nbsp

Modi also attacked the Congress for questioning the capabilities of the Army with reference to surgical strike into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in 2016.&nbsp;

It is unfortunate that political opponents also committed a sin by raising questions on the capabilities of the Army. This has never happened before and the people will not forgive those who are doing this kind of politics, he said.

The prime minister said his government had resolved the issue of one rank, one pension for defence personnel, the report further said.

Modi was addressing a rally of beneficiaries of welfare schemes run by the Centre and the state government in BJP-ruled Rajasthan, where assembly elections are scheduled later this year.

Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, BJP state president Madan Lal Saini and other leaders attended the public meeting at 'Amrudon ka Bagh'.

Modi&nbsp;also praised Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and said that she has changed the work culture in the state.

The Prime Minister said, "Never forget the tough circumstances in which Vasundhara Raje took oath in 2013. When she took the oath, systems were not working properly. She has changed the work culture in the state.

Reflecting on the work undertaken by the Central government, Modi said, "The Central Government and the State Government are working together for the progress of Rajasthan. In our way of working neither the work gets delayed, nor pending, neither they get diverted."

He reiterated that Dalits, farmers, women, backwards castes are at the centre of our schemes.

Prime Minister Modi further pointed out the rich history of Rajasthan and said that there is something special about it.

The Prime Minister's comments comes after he laid the foundation stone for thirteen urban infrastructure projects worth over 21 hundred crore rupees. Around 2.5 lakh beneficiaries gathered in Jaipur to take part in the programme.

Several Congress leaders are on bail, party is a 'bullock cart': PM Modi

Three civilians, including a teenage girl, were killed and several others injured in an alleged firing by security forces on stone-pelting protesters in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

Clashes broke out between protesters and security forces after several youths were detained in Hawoora Mishipora village in Qoimoh area of Kulgam in south Kashmir.&nbsp

Locals resorted to stone pelting, forcing the security personnel to open fire at the protesters. At least five persons were injured in the incident.

The police said that they used force to disperse the protestors and three people were killed.&nbsp

The deceased have been identified as Shakir Ahmad (22), Irshad Ahmad (20) and 16-year-old girl Andleeb.

The death of the three persons has triggered further protests, due to which the government has suspended internet services in the area.

The Valley was observing a shutdown today on the call given by separatists against the detention of woman separatist Asiya Andrabi by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The shutdown is expected to continue till Sunday, on the second death anniversary of slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani.

In the wake of Wani’s death anniversary, the government has increased security across the state and has also placed restrictions on civilian movement in several parts of Srinagar city. Curfew has also been imposed in Wani’s native town Tral.
