The Supreme Court has dismissed pleas filed by three out of the four convicts seeking review of its verdict upholding the death penalty awarded to them in the Nirbhaya rape and murder case.

India's SC upholds death sentence for Nirbhaya’s rapists

Supreme Court on Monday rejected the review pleas of three of the four living adult convicts who were awarded the death sentence in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case, according to TV reports.

A bench, headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, delivered its verdict on the pleas&nbsp;and said the convicts had failed to point out “error” in the judgement.&nbsp;

Justice Ashok Bhushan authored the judgment on behalf of the three-judge bench. The apex court said there is no question of reopening the case or reconsidering the 2017 verdict.&nbsp;

The Supreme Court had on May 5, 2017 upheld the verdict of the Delhi High Court and the trial court sentencing the four men - Mukesh (29), Pawan Kumar Gupta (22), Vinay Sharma (23) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31) to death for raping the woman, fatally wounding her and leaving her to die by the road.&nbsp;

On December 16, 2012, a 23-year-old paramedic student in Delhi was gang-raped by five men and a minor boy on a moving bus that she boarded from south Delhi's Mehrauli area along with a friend. After a prolonged battle at a Delhi hospital, she breathed her last after being flown to Singapore for better medical attention.

The horrific incident led to massive protests across the country while thousands of youths in Delhi came out on the streets and braved police action to seek action against the six accused in the Nirbhaya case.&nbsp;

Six people were accused in the case. Of these, Ram Singh committed suicide in jail. The youngest accused was reportedly days short of turning 18 on the day of the crime, and was sent to a juvenile home -- a move that also triggered a huge row.&nbsp;

Nirbhaya gang rape case: SC dismisses pleas, upholds death sentence for convicts

Actors Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort played the leads in the film which traces the life of a young girl suffering from cancer, who subsequently meets a boy at a support group and falls in love with him.

Josh Green, the authour of the book "The Fault in Our Stars", had earlier said he found it amazing that his piece of work was being made into a film in India.

Live streaming of court proceedings across the country can be undertaken, the Centre informed the Supreme Court today.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud asked the parties to give suggestions to the Attorney General for formulating holistic guidelines for live-streaming of court proceedings.

The apex court had on May 3 sought the response of the Centre to pleas seeking live streaming, video recording or transcribing of judicial proceedings in courts.

The Attorney General had earlier told the court that live streaming of court proceedings was an accepted practice in various countries.

In a bid to bring in transparency, the top court had last year allowed the installation of CCTV recording with audio in trial courts and tribunals in every state.

A petition, filed by a law student, has also sought a direction for setting up of live streaming rooms within the apex court premises and granting access to legal interns.

The plea, filed by Swapnil Tripathi, a student of National Law University in Jodhpur, has asked for requisite guidelines to facilitate witnessing of proceedings for the interns. PTI

The National Capital Territory of Delhi will soon be building a 'wall' of around 32 lakh trees encircling the state to protect it from the dust storms coming from the neigbouring states, mostly Rajasthan.

A senior official of the Union Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Change told PTI-Bhasha that various agencies of the Union and Delhi governments have already begun the work of planting nearly 31 lakh saplings of various native species on its three sides to rid Delhi of frequent dust storms from its western neighbour.

It will act as a natural barrier which will come up along Delhi border with Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

The official listed that the scheme has two objectives - absorption of pollution and causing particulate matters by trees and protecting Delhi from the unbearable dust storms, coming in from Rajasthan every year due to western disturbances.

Based on studies, densely and huge trees like ''pilkhan, goolar, mango, mahua'' will be suitable for the plan.

The official said the minute dust particles and other pollutants of the air will get deposited on the leaves of evergreen trees it will be subsequently washed down to the ground and mix up with soil during rains.

This can be the permanent solution of the long-term dust problem of Delhi-NCR. The scheme has been officially launched on July 7 and is aimed to complete the plan within this year.

The authorities taking part in the implementation of the scheme are Delhi Development Authority, the Central Public Works Department, the Delhi Metro, the Northern Railway, the Public Works Department of the Delhi government besides, the Forest Department and various municipal councils and corporations of Delhi.

Once the saplings plantations are done, all the agencies would be responsible to nurture them for at least two years after which and the independent agency would conduct a ''survival audit'' of the trees around March 2019 to examine their survival rate and accordingly further actions will be taken.&nbsp;

The normal life got disrupted in Mumbai as rains continue in several parts of the city on Monday, July 9.&nbsp

Most of the Mumbai region woke up to yet another day of incessant rainfall, causing waterlogging at several places and submerging rail tracks on some routes.&nbsp

There were delays in suburban trains, and many bus routes had to be diverted.

The heavy downpour had also affected the Central Railway line as several train services have been temporarily shut down or delayed.

"Precautionary holiday declared for schools, colleges in Mumbai Metropolitan Region for the safety of the students due to the heavy rainfall experienced in the city and the suburban areas. Heavy rains forecasted everyone is advised to stay safe," &nbspsaid Education Minister Vinod Tawde.&nbsp

Schools shut, trains delayed as heavy rains lash Mumbai

There is no end in sight to the power tussle between the BJP government at the Centre and AAP government in the national capital, Delhi. Not even a week has passed since the Supreme Court clearly delineated the powers of both the LG(a central government appointee) and the elected government of Delhi, but already, both sides are again getting back into a confrontation over control of transfers and postings of officers. AAP claims that it cannot be both -- an elected government and still wait for approval from the British-era position of the LG.&nbsp;

On July 4, the Supreme Court had held that “LG is bound by the aid and advice of the council of ministers,” and cannot act as an ‘obstructionist’ while dealing with Delhi’s elected government.&nbsp;

The top court balanced this virtual reprimand to the LG by telling the Delhi government to keep the LG informed about its decisions. However, here too, the SC reiterated that LG doesn’t have any veto power over the decisions of the government.&nbsp;

The Court said, “Duty imposed on the council of ministers is to inform the LG on all matters relating to the administration of the NCT, neither the provisions of Article 239AA nor the rules require the concurrence of the LG to a decision which has been taken by the council of ministers.”

The biggest victims of this turf war are Delhi’s civic services and law and order that are deteriorating by the day. But given AAP’s political journey so far it is hardly surprising that the party is not budging from its stand that it is the elected government that controls Delhi, except the departments of land, and law and order that come under the central government through the office of the LG.

Aam Aadmi Party stormed onto the Indian political stage in the final years of UPA II with its tantalising promise of ‘people’s rule’. In 2015, it won a landslide majority in Delhi(67/70) by winning all but three seats. &nbsp;It was nothing short of a miracle for a party founded by social workers and NGO wallahs. AAP had stoked &nbsp;both dormant idealism and opportunism in many of supporters in Delhi. Ironically, AAP’s leader, Arvind Kejriwal had become a politician by decrying prevailing politics and politicians.&nbsp;

Three years and many setbacks later, Kejriwal and his party have managed to not just survive but also emerge as an outspoken and effective critic of the BJP government in the centre. During his sit-in at LG’s house, he received support from three non-BJP Chief Ministers as well. For Kejriwal, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal, is the right punching bag as the L-G is appointed by the central government (Delhi being still a Union Territory. )

Kejriwal-LG spats had become so common and regular that they didn’t evoke much response from rather Delhi’s citizens or media. Similarly, AAP’s run-ins with the city’s bureaucracy(appointed again by the Centre), and the hounding of its MLAs by Delhi police(controlled by MHA) were treated as something that was to be ‘expected’ given that both AAP and Modi-led BJP believe in giving no quarter to their rivals.&nbsp;

Matters came to such a state that the topmost civil servant – the Chief Secretary of Delhi alleged this February that he had been assaulted by AAP MLAs inside Kejriwal’s residence-cum- office. The Chief Secretary, Anshu Prakash’s sensational claim was soon followed up by a strike by officers of the Delhi government.&nbsp;

Kejriwal, the hartal-champion of contemporary politics, too began his own strike inside the LG’s office. He and his colleagues sat inside the office for 9-days even as the Supreme Court started hearing their case.&nbsp;

But despite AC’s sagacious advice to work together, it is unlikely that the ‘absolutism’ of the LG, and the ‘anarchism’ of AAP government will disappear quickly.&nbsp;

In all of this, neither the AAP government that claimed to represent a new style of politics nor the LG, seem to be concerned about the suffering that is being caused to Delhi’s citizens because of this cynical politics.&nbsp;

Wani, a resident of Tral, was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Kokernag area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on 8 July, 2016. His killing triggered massive protests and prolonged period of curfews and shutdowns across the Valley. As many as 85 people were killed and a thousand others were injured in clashes between security forces and protesters over four months.

Senior separatist leaders, Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq were placed under house arrest. Muhammad Yasin Malik was taken into preventive custody.

The official said security forces have been deployed in strength at sensitive places across the Valley.

Burhan Wani's death anniversary: High alert in J&K, Amarnath yatra suspended for a day

The Supreme Court on Monday will pronounce its verdict on the petition filed by four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape-murder case challenging the death sentence.

The apex court will give its verdict following a review plea that was filed by two of the convicts who sought to reduce the capital punishment to a life term.

The Supreme Court had on May 5, 2017 upheld the verdict of the Delhi High Court and the trial court sentencing the four men - Mukesh (29), Pawan Kumar Gupta (22), Vinay Sharma (23) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31) to death for raping the woman, fatally wounding her and leaving her to die by the road.&nbsp;

On December 16, 2012, a 23-year-old paramedic student in Delhi was gang-raped by five men and a minor boy on a moving bus that she boarded from south Delhi's Mehrauli area along with a friend. After a prolonged battle at a Delhi hospital, she breathed her last after being flown to Singapore for better medical attention.

The horrific incident led to massive protests across the country while thousands of youths in Delhi came out on the streets and braved police action to seek action against the six accused in the Nirbhaya case.&nbsp;

The Supreme Court on Monday will pronounce its verdict on the petition filed by four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape-murder case challenging the death sentence. The apex court will give its verdict following a review plea that was filed by two of the convicts who sought to reduce the capital punishment to a life term. The Supreme Court had on May 5, 2017 upheld the verdict of the Delhi High Court and the trial court sentencing the four men - Mukesh (29), Pawan Kumar Gupta (22), Vinay Sharma (23) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31) to death for raping the woman, fatally wounding her and leaving her to die by the road. On December 16, 2012, a 23-year-old paramedic student in Delhi was gang-raped by five men and a minor boy on a moving bus that she boarded from south Delhi's Mehrauli area along with a friend. South Korea President Moon Jae-In to visit India today

The Congress party's pursuit to stitch a larger anti-BJP alliance for 2019 is already facing challenges from quarters within.

This week the party was confronted with massive rumblings within its West Bengal unit where the state leadership is bitterly divided over alliance options.

While one section of the West Bengal Congress led by party chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is advocating a pact with the opposition left front in the state, another camp led by Congress secretary and local MLA Mainul Haque has batted for an alliance with the ruling TMC.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi had to meet all state leaders individually earlier this week to dissipate the crisis amid possibilities of Haque and some of his supporters switching over to the Mamata Banerjee led TMC, should Gandhi decide to go with the Left.

"We will not quit the Congress and will await the decision of Congress President Rahul Gandhi before taking any decision," Haque told PTI.

He felt no vote transfer to the Congress happened in the last assembly poll after the party aligned with CPI-M. "It will be suicidal to go with the CPI(M) again as it has no standing in the state anymore today," he said.

Chowdhury, however, said his aim is to strengthen the party and all should work towards it.&nbsp;

"Some legislators have left the party and if some more are inclined to leave, no one can stop them."

In the Delhi unit of the Congress too, the state party leadership has categorically ruled out any alliance with the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) even though Gandhi is yet to make his mind known.

Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken has accused the AAP of being "hand-in-glove" with the BJP and having allied with the RSS through the 2011 Anna Hazare movement to unseat the then Congress-led UPA.

Similar is the situation in party-ruled Punjab, where the state leadership is totally against any truck with the AAP.

In Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, although the Congress is trying to forge ties with the BSP to prevent the division of anti-BJP vote, early reports do not signal much of a success.

Even for Madhya Pradesh, not all Congress leaders are endorsing an alliance with the BSP.

Former CWC member Anil Shastri has said that any pact with the BSP would prove "suicidal" for the party in Madhya Pradesh. Shastri questions the rationale behind the alliance citing the meagre BSP presence in the state assembly.

The lobby advocating the pact in MP, however, says the Mayawati-led outfit has enough of a vote share to swing the poll.

Internal discussions are on in the party around questions such as whether to ally with the BSP, to what extent to ally or not to ally at all and go alone.

The party has made it clear that it will not hamper the interests of its state leaders while forging alliances across the country.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala has said that the party will not go for any alliance at the cost of its leaders in states.

In Rajasthan too, PCC chief Sachin Pilot is not in favour of an alliance with the BSP and wants the Congress to go it alone.

The BSP, however, has already announced its plans of going with the INLD in Haryana in 2019 polls.

In Uttar Pradesh, however, the Congress is ready for being a part of the "mahagathbandhan" but is weary of the intentions of the SP and BSP, who don't want the Congress to be given a bigger share in the seat-sharing in 2019.

The Congress is more or less settled in Karnataka with JDS, where it has a broad seat-sharing understanding with its new-found ally.

A total 26 people including the main accused have been accused arrested in Maharashtra's Dhule lynching incident. A search operation for 15 more accused is underway, said Dhule's Superintendent of Police M Ram kumar.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the dead. Will probe BJP CMs over crores of money after coming to power, says Rahul Gandhi

A 29-year-old Indian-origin truck driver in Canada has been arrested in connection with a bus crash that killed 16 people, mostly members of a junior hockey team, one of the worst disasters in the country's sporting community.

The driver, Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, was arrested at his home in Calgary city on Friday and remanded into custody, the CBC reported, quoting the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the national police force of the country.

Sidhu is facing 16 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and 13 counts of dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing bodily injury, the CBC reported.

He is set to appear in a court in Saskatchewan province next week, but no date has been set. Dangerous driving causing death carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in Canada. Sidhu's lawyer declined to comment on his client.

Sixteen people, including 10 players, were killed and 13 injured when the Humboldt Broncos hockey team was on its way to a playoff game at the time of the collision with the tractor-trailer on April 6. Sidhu was not injured, but he did receive trauma counselling in the aftermath.

Support staff and the team's head and assistant coaches were also among the causalities. A number of players who survived the crash are still recovering from significant injuries. Police have not disclosed the findings of their investigation into how the crash happened.

Sidhu was a bachelor of commerce student at Panjab University in Chandigarh from 2008 until 2012, the CBC said, citing his LinkedIn profile. He was working for the Calgary-based Adesh Deol Trucking Ltd at the time of the crash.

The Canadian Trucking Alliance said in a statement on Friday that it would like to see the results of the investigation into the trucking company that employed Sidhu

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to work with experts from IIT-Delhi to stabilise the landfill site that has reached a staggering height of 165 feet.

The massive dump in south Delhi was commissioned in 1996.

"Lt Governor Anil Baijal visited the Okhla landfill site to review the process for its step-by-step closure and remediation. He was accompanied by SDMC Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel," a team of experts from IIT, Engineer-in-Chief of SDMC Umesh Sachdeva, and senior officers of DDA and other departments," the SDMC said in a statement.

SDMC and IIT have formulated an action plan for the redevelopment of the site by developing an engineered landfill site in place of the saturated and non-functional site, commissioning a construction-and-demolition recycling plant and developing an aesthetic&nbsplandscaped garden to make it a landmark of south Delhi in near future, it said.

Baijal stressed upon the need to transform the landfill site into a new, environment-friendly place. "He asked various agencies to take care of the safety aspects during the work and ensure its timely completion. 
Goel assured Baijal that the SDMC will develop this site into an eye-soothing project in a "very short span of time".

"This landfill site was started in 1996 with over 40 acres of land, and now it has attained its maximum height of about 165 ft and has reached a saturation point. Keeping in view the incident of Ghazipur, SDMC plans for remediation of the site by its resources only without any external help. SDMC is planning to develop it as a beautiful green site," he said.

Incidentally, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) had also roped in experts from IIT-Delhi last year to avoid a rerun of the Ghazipur landfill collapse and to work on measures to stabilise the dump site.

In September, two persons were killed, prompting the city's Lt Governor to stop the dumping of waste on the site.

Embattled Indian tycoon Vijay Mallya said on Sunday he will comply fully with court enforcement officers seeking to seize his British assets, but there was not much for them to take as his family's lavish residences were not in his name.

India wants to extradite the 62-year-old former liquor baron from Britain to face charges of fraud as a group of Indian banks seek to recover more than $1 billion of loans granted to his defunct Kingfisher Airlines.

A verdict is expected by early September, with July 31 the final date for closing oral submissions and appeals likely whatever the outcome.

Speaking to Reuters at the British Formula One Grand Prix, where he is principal and co-owner of the Force India team, Mallya said he would hand over British assets held in his name. But a luxury country residence belonged to his children and a house in London belonged to his mother, making them untouchable.

"I have given the UK court on affidavit a statement of my UK assets. Which, pursuant to the freezing order, they are entitled to take and hand over to the banks," he said. "There are a few cars, a few items of jewellery and I said 'OK, fine. You don’t have to bother to come to my house to seize them. I’ll physically hand them over. Tell me the time, date and place.'"

"There’s no question of being homeless because at the end of the day, they are entitled to take my assets in my name declared on oath to the court. They can’t go one step beyond," he said.

'Fugitive economic offender'

Mallya said a super-yacht he used for entertaining at races in Monaco and Abu Dhabi, which was recently sold at auction in Malta after a dispute over unpaid crew wages, was not his problem either.

"I have not owned the Indian Empress boat for more than seven years now," he said. It had belonged to "a Middle Eastern gentleman", whose name he would not disclose, in a deal that gave Mallya use of it for one month a year, he said.

Mallya has been in Britain since he left India in March 2016, unable to travel after his passport was revoked, so the annual British Grand Prix is the only race he has been able to attend since then.

The Enforcement Directorate, which fights financial crimes, is seeking to declare him a "fugitive economic offender" and to confiscate 125 billion rupees worth of his assets.

Mallya has denied the charges, decried a "political witchhunt" and has said he is seeking to sell assets worth about 139 billion rupees ($2.04 billion) to repay creditors.

"I think the overriding consideration that everybody seems to be missing is that I have put $2 billion worth of assets in front of the Karnataka high court which is more than sufficient to repay the banks and indeed everybody else," he said.

"So the question of attaching assets either in the UK or whatever should not arise."

Mallya repeated recent complaints on Twitter that Indian criminal enforcement agencies had frozen assets in India so he could not sell them, while banks continued to tot up interest.

He said the enforcement directorate had also attached assets inherited from his father, including properties acquired in the 1920s, under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

"How can those be proceeds of crime? This is the injustice that is happening," he said.

The Chhattisgarh unit of the Congress claimed on Saturday that it has proof that "Abhishak Singh", the name revealed by International Consortium of Investigative Journalists in the Panama Papers, referred to Chief Minister Raman Singh's son Abhishek.

Abhishek Singh is a BJP Lok Sabha MP from the state's Rajnandgaon constituency.

"Ahead of changing the spelling of his name, Abhishek was allegedly the director of a company and used to spell his name as Abhishak. He had resigned from the company before contesting Lok Sabha elections in 2014," state Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel told reporters at a press conference in Raipur.

According to documents revealed by ICIJ, "Abhishak Singh" was shown to be having offshore assets and the residential address mentioned in his foreign bank account was "Raman Medical Store, New Bus Stand, Ward Number 20, Vindhyawasini Ward, Kawardha", Baghel said.

"Although Chief Minister Raman Singh and his son Abhishek have continuously denied knowing any person by the name Abhishak Singh, they have, at the same time, also ignored demands by the Congress to register an FIR for misusing the address of a chief minister," he said.

Abhishek Singh was allegedly the director of Chalet Estates Private Limited and used to spell his name as Abhishak, before changing the spelling of his name to the current one, he alleged.

Chalet Estates Private Limited was registered in November 2011 for which the Gurgaon address of a person named Sonal Thakur was provided by the company, he said.

"As per the documents, initially, there were three directors - Abhishak Singh, son of Raman Singh, Aishwarya Hada, wife of Abhishak Singh and Sonal Thakur, daughter of Mahendra Kalchuri," he alleged.

He said that "Abhishak Singh" resigned from the post of director before contesting Lok Sabha polls in 2014.

The signature, of director Abhishak Singh, on Form 32, Memorandum of Association and balance sheet of Chalet Estates Private Limited and the signature on the affidavit submitted by Abhishek Singh during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections was virtually the same, Baghel alleged.

Baghel also alleged that a Facebook page, in the name of Abhishak Singh, was later edited as Abhishek Singh in 2014.

He demanded the resignation of the Chattisgarh chief minister as well as his MP son and said that the Enforcement Directorate should investigate the matter.

Baghel accused the state government of amending the Uslapur-Mungeli-Pandaria-Kawardha-Khairagarh-Dongergarh railway project, being development jointly by the state government and the Railway Ministry, to benefit Chalet Estates Private Limited that has 17 acres of land in Ghotiya village.

Of this 17 acres, around 7 acres belong to Abhishek Singh, Baghel alleged.

Refuting the charges, the Chhattisgarh CM's son termed Baghel's allegations "baseless and politically motivated".

"The Congress was not getting any issues and therefore it was encouraging politics of lies," a statement issued by Abhishek Singh's office said.

Bhupesh Baghel had been allegedly involved in land encroachment in Patan area and was also embroiled in a sleaze CD case and, fearing action on these issues, he was making baseless allegations, the statement said.

"Me and my wife had transferred our shares of Chalet Estate Private Limited and its information was in public knowledge. Now I dont have any connection with this company," he said.

He claimed that the share transfer was done as per the legal provisions and there was no any violations of laws.

On allegations about the change in the spelling of his name, Singh said: "I have the name Abhishek Singh right from the start and I have never changed it. During studies, it was mistakenly written as Abhishak instead of Abhishek which was corrected by a public notice and this is in public domain.

The lands (as mentioned in the allegations) were procured by Chalet company and it does not have any connection with rail projects, he added.

"I want to reiterate that I have no foreign bank accounts. The leaders of the Congress and others had approached the Supreme Court on the issue which was rejected by the Apex Court. Bhupesh Baghel is doing cheap politics to gain mileage," he said.&nbsp

Abhishek Singh is a BJP Lok Sabha MP from the state's Rajnandgaon constituency. "Ahead of changing the spelling of his name, Abhishek was allegedly the director of a company and used to spell his name as Abhishak. He had resigned from the company before contesting Lok Sabha elections in 2014," state Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel told reporters at a press conference in Raipur. According to documents revealed by ICIJ, "Abhishak Singh" was shown to be having offshore assets and the residential address mentioned in his foreign bank account was "Raman Medical Store, New Bus Stand, Ward Number 20, Vindhyawasini Ward, Kawardha", Baghel said. "Although Chief Minister Raman Singh and his son Abhishek have continuously denied knowing any person by the name Abhishak Singh, they have, at the same time, also ignored demands by the Congress to register an FIR for misusing the address of a chief minister," he said. Abhishek Singh was allegedly the director of Chalet Estates Private Limited and used to spell his name as Abhishak, before changing the spelling of his name to the current one, he alleged. Chalet Estates Private Limited was registered in November 2011 for which the Gurgaon address of a person named Sonal Thakur was provided by the company, he said. "As per the documents, initially, there were three directors - Abhishak Singh, son of Raman Singh, Aishwarya Hada, wife of Abhishak Singh and Sonal Thakur, daughter of Mahendra Kalchuri," he alleged. He said that "Abhishak Singh" resigned from the post of director before contesting Lok Sabha polls in 2014. The signature, of director Abhishak Singh, on Form 32, Memorandum of Association and balance sheet of Chalet Estates Private Limited and the signature on the affidavit submitted by Abhishek Singh during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections was virtually the same, Baghel alleged. Baghel also alleged that a Facebook page, in the name of Abhishak Singh, was later edited as Abhishek Singh in 2014. He demanded the resignation of the Chattisgarh chief minister as well as his MP son and said that the Enforcement Directorate should investigate the matter. Baghel accused the state government of amending the Uslapur-Mungeli-Pandaria-Kawardha-Khairagarh-Dongergarh railway project, being development jointly by the state government and the Railway Ministry, to benefit Chalet Estates Private Limited that has 17 acres of land in Ghotiya village. Of this 17 acres, around 7 acres belong to Abhishek Singh, Baghel alleged. Refuting the charges, the Chhattisgarh CM's son termed Baghel's allegations "baseless and politically motivated". "The Congress was not getting any issues and therefore it was encouraging politics of lies," a statement issued by Abhishek Singh's office said. Bhupesh Baghel had been allegedly involved in land encroachment in Patan area and was also embroiled in a sleaze CD case and, fearing action on these issues, he was making baseless allegations, the statement said. "Me and my wife had transferred our shares of Chalet Estate Private Limited and its information was in public knowledge. Now I dont have any connection with this company," he said. He claimed that the share transfer was done as per the legal provisions and there was no any violations of laws. On allegations about the change in the spelling of his name, Singh said: "I have the name Abhishek Singh right from the start and I have never changed it. During studies, it was mistakenly written as Abhishak instead of Abhishek which was corrected by a public notice and this is in public domain. The lands (as mentioned in the allegations) were procured by Chalet company and it does not have any connection with rail projects, he added. "I want to reiterate that I have no foreign bank accounts. The leaders of the Congress and others had approached the Supreme Court on the issue which was rejected by the Apex Court. Bhupesh Baghel is doing cheap politics to gain mileage," he said.
