Amid constant threats of nuclear war by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, the new IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria on Monday said the Indian Air Force was ready to face any challenges.

"What he (Pakistan Prime Minister) said is their understanding of the nuclear and strategic aspects. We have our own understanding and our own analysis and we will be ready to face any challenges," Bhadauria told ANI.

Despite being snubbed globally over the Kashmir issue, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had on September 28 yet again warned of dire consequences in the event of a nuclear war with India over the matter."If a conventional war starts between the two countries anything could happen. A country seven times smaller than its neighbour what will it do — either surrender or fight for its freedom," he said in his maiden address to the UN General Assembly.

"My belief is we will fight and when a nuclear-armed country fights till the end it will consequence far beyond the borders. I am warning you. It`s not a threat but worries about where are we heading. If this goes wrong you hope for the best but prepare for the worst," Khan had said.

Bhadauria had also said that the Rafale jets will greatly enhance the capabilities of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and will give the IAF an edge over Pakistan and China.

"Rafale is a very capable aircraft, once we induct it, it will be a gamechanger in terms of our operational capability and when we use it in combination with SU-30 and other fleets which we have, we would have a serious jump in our capability. It will give us an edge over Pakistan and China," Bhadauria told ANI soon after taking over as the 26th chief of the force.

The repealing of Article 370 was a move towards permanent peace in Jammu and Kashmir and it reflects the honour and respect given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the security personnel who laid down their lives for the country, Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday.

"I believe that the true and well-deserved respect to our personnel who have sacrificed their lives in Kashmir was given by revoking Article 370 and Article 35-A from Jammu and Kashmir by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is a move for permanent peace in the valley," Shah said at the 27th Raising Day event of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), a specialised wing of the CRPF constituted to deal with riots.

"It is a push for peace so that our personnel do not have to lay down their lives in the Valley but are there to take care of the usual law and order situation. People re-elected the Prime Minister with a big majority and he did the right thing in less than a month," he added.

Provisions of Article 370, which gave special powers to Jammu and Kashmir, were repealed last month.

Earlier in his speech, Shah praised the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and other paramilitary forces for their role in providing security to people.

He said over 34,000 personnel who had laid down their lives for the internal security of the country have contributed immensely to the process of development.

Shah also lauded the role of RAF since its inception.

"RAF so far has fulfilled its role in keeping with the expectation of the people and the government," he said.

Recounting the bravery of the CRPF personnel, Shah cited the terror attacks in Kashmir and the attacks on Parliament and the makeshift Ram temple in Ayodhya which were foiled by its personnel.

Referring to the National Police Memorial in the national capital, he said it was completed and inaugurated at the initiative of Prime Minister.

The Minister said the logo of the memorial, which is dedicated to the sacrifices of security personnel in internal security duties, will be unveiled on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary next month by the Prime Minister.

Speaking exclusively to WION's Diplomatic Correspondent Sidhant Sibal in New York, India’s envoy to United Nations Syed Akbaruddin said that the reason why India sent a young diplomat to answer Imran Khan’s UNGA speech was to reflect a new India and bring to table energy of a young person.

He also spoke on UNSC reforms, issue of terrorism. WION: India sent a young diplomat Vidisha Maitra to reply to Pakistan using the “right of reply” option. What was the intent behind it? Syed Akbaruddin: You know, we are a country with a tradition, a country with a very consistent approach. We also know Pakistan and its approach very well. So if its focus is on one issue, and this issue with which we are very familiar with, we always field our young diplomats who are confident, who reflect a new India, who have the ability to articulate India’s position in very nuanced manner but also very forcefully. They bring to the table the zest and the energy of the young and an understanding of the issues which is historical in nature. It is a tradition for us to field a young officer to clearly indicate and articulate India’s consistent position. WION: How do see the speech of Pakistani PM from the UNGA podium? Syed Akbaruddin: So, India’s articulation across the UN was on themes that was listed by the President of the General Assembly. If other countries want to stray away from that it is their choice. UN is a place where people work in partnerships. Partnerships can be forged on issues of common interest, not on individual interest. So if Pakistan wants to project an issue of individual interest, this is their choice, they wasted it, as you said. WION: What was PM Modi’s big message from his speech at UNGA? Syed Akbaruddin: Global development is sustainable development. Climate action is a key part of that development. PM Modi has made it clear that India’s ambition levels for sustainable development far exceeded with what was thought of even a decade ago. PM’s mention that from the high target we have already set off in terms of renewable energy of 175 GWs, we are now moving to a target of more than 400 GW. That is considerable, similarly on climate action, on whole range of front we are active, including working with the UN, we have set up Gandhi Solar park. Globally we are trying to work we partners to form a collation for disaster resilient infrastructure, so we are working in multifaceted ways, in different ways as well as doing our focus against climate action in India. Watch video: × WION: India sets record in the number of bilaterals held. Syed Akbaruddin: Never before have we been intensely engaged in a manner that we did during this week. PM had 17 bilateral engagements and number of plurilateral level, we have engaged in leaders levels in an unprecedented manner. For the first time, we have plurilateral meetings of India engaging with regions. It has never been done before. For the first summit between India and CARICOM was held. The CARICOM was, we all are familiar with there cricketing abilities. But there are a lot more commonalities between CARICOM and India. Similarly, Indopacific has become a major issue of political importance. This was the first effort of India engaging with Pacific countries on the sidelines of UNGA. In addition, Foreign Minister Jaishankar engaged in as many as 40+ bilateral meetings and a host of plurilateral meetings—The brick, the SAARC, G4, etc. MoS MEA was engaged with the NAM, the commonwealth, the G77. So I told you it is unprecedented in its intensity, in its expanse, in its focus. It is an expression of India’s willingness, and expansiveness to embrace the world and multilateralism. WION: What were the key takeaways for the world? Syed Akbaruddin: Key takeaway is that India is reaching out to the world in a peaceful and harmonious manner. It is an outreach which is extensive. Its an outreach which is expansive and it is an outreach which is expansive and it is an outreach which is all embracive. WION: How big is the issue of terror at the UN? What is the world doing about it? Syed Akbaruddin: There are two ways. One is the normative way of working towards a normative agreement on the issues of terrorism and that is the convention. But there is action-oriented way and that way has progressed and it has progressed considerably because terrorism is considered antithetical to everything that UN stands for or, countries in UN stand for and they have progressed in many, many practical ways to counter terrorism through UNSC resolutions and resolutions through other bodies. So, it depends on how you see it. Normative efforts have been stalled but practical efforts continue. For example this year, you see it for the first time, an attack on Indian paramilitary troops was condemned by the United Nations. It has never happened before. Similarly, after a period of 10 years, Masood Azhar was listed as a terrorist individual. All these things show on the practical front we are moving ahead. And new areas are emerging and how do we tackle the promotion of hate speech and violent extremism and terrorism through cyberspace. There was a meeting of leaders, where they focused on efforts we need to do to prevent the use of internet and cyberspace for promoting violent extremist narrative. This is a new theme and was led by the king of Jordan and Christchurch call countries and President of France made special mention of India’s participation in this and PM Modi’s interest in this and so this is growing area of convergence. WION: How hopeful are you about UNSC reforms? Syed Akbaruddin: We have to understand that the global situation today is one of great volatility. It is one where things are not being done. The world is changing and it is changing dramatically and exponentially. UNSC has been resistant to change. Organizations that don’t change, may become less and less effective. It is a call for them to take, do they want to be relevant to the issues of the day, to addressing and resolving the primary issues that impact global peace and security or other ways will be found. Contemporary reality has to be adjusted. It is the norm in every segment of life for example, in business, companies dominated 70 or 100 years ago are not dominant today. That is the law of nature, it will happen with time but how it happens, when it happens, the situation may arrive. Crisis always required to change. Today there is a crisis, UNSC can’t act on whole hosts of issues. People are bypassing it. The last big institutional change was on the basis of the cataclysmic event. Change happens, sometimes by chance, it happens in ways you do not understand, but it will happen.

We field young diplomats to articulate new India's position: Syed Akbaruddin speaks to WION on India's right to reply

India on Saturday strongly opposed Pakistan`s propaganda on Kashmir at General Assembly of Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.

According to an official statement issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Pakistani Parliamentary Delegation raised the issue of Kashmir saying that "Indian military forces had seized Kashmir".

Opposing the Pakistani propaganda, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Roopa Ganguly hit back saying the tradition of military rule is prevalent in Pakistan and that Islamabad had been under Army rule for 33 years.

She added that military rule was unknown in India. An Indian parliamentary delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is currently participating in the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference being held in Kampala, Uganda from September 22 to 29.

The delegation is comprised of Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Roopa Ganguly, MP (Rajya Sabha); L. Hanumanthaiah, MP (Rajya Sabha), Aparajita Sarangi, MP (Lok Sabha) and Snehlata Shrivastava, Secretary General, Lok Sabha.

The Presiding Officers and Secretaries of State Legislatures, who are members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, are also participating in the conference.

Pakistan had earlier raised the same issue during the 4th South Asian Speakers` Summit held in Male, the Maldives from September 1-2 on the subject `Achieving Sustainable Development Goals.

`The Indian delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had strongly opposed the baseless allegations. As a result, the issues raised by Pakistan were rejected and left out of the Male Declaration.

Earlier, India slammed Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for misusing United Nations General Assembly platform to justify terrorism.

Strongly hitting back at Khan`s statement at UN General Assembly in New York, India said, its citizens do not need anyone else to speak on their behalf and least of all those who have built an industry of terrorism from the ideology of hate.

Exercising the right of reply, First Secretary in India`s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Vidisha Maitra said, unfortunately, Pakistan Prime Minister`s speech was a "callous portrayal of the world in binary terms."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke about initiating a 'Bharat Ki Laxmi' campaign to honour the girls who have brought a change in society.

Addressing the citizen of the country during 57th episode of 'Mann ki Baat', Modi announced starting this campaign during Diwali and called on citizens to outline the achievements of 'daughters' of the country using BharatKiLaxmi hashtag.

"There must be numerous daughters amongst us who, through their perseverance, diligence and talent have brought glory to their families, society and the country. This Diwali, can we arrange programmes to honour the Laxmi of India?" Modi said.

"This time, let us do campaign #Bharatkilaxmi. Encouraging the Laxmi of Bharat amounts to strengthening the paths of prosperity for the country and her citizens," he added.

The Prime Minister also said that while in Diwali every household welcomes Goddess Laxmi, the time was now ripe to honour the daughters of the nation, and also implored people to make it a social media campaign along the lines of #selfiewithdaughter.

"My dear brothers and sisters, Laxmi, the goddess of wealth, makes an entry into each and every household in the form of fortune and prosperity during Diwali... We could do something more, we could highlight the achievements of India's daughters by sharing their achievements on social media, using the hashtag #Bharatkilaxmi. The way we jointly ran a mega campaign "#Selfiwithdaughter", which spread globally," he said.

Earlier, during his address, the Prime Minister had also urged people to share the surplus goods, sweets and anything which they no longer needed with the deprived section of the society so that every family in the country gets to enjoy the festive season.

"My dear countrymen, with the advent of Navaratri today, the air is bound to be full of new hopes, new energy and new resolves, once again. After all, it's the festival season. During festivals, families come together. Homes will be filled with joy! But... you must have felt this... there are many people around us who remain deprived of these celebrations," Modi said.

"On one hand, when we experience the 'Delivery In' of sweets, and gifts let us think for a moment on the process of 'Delivery Out'. At least in our homes, items that are in excess and thus, not required anymore, could be allocated for 'Delivery Out'," he added.

India at the United Nations slammed Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's UNGA speech and described it as "misuse, rather abuse, of an
opportunity to reflect".

India's delegate at UN General Assembly and first secretary, Ministry of External Affairs Vidisha Maitra stated that the General Assembly has rarely witnessed the "invocation of phrases such as 'pogrom', 'bloodbath', 'racial superiority', 'pick up the gun' and 'fight to the end.'"

She added that such an act "reflects a medieval mindset and not a 21st century vision". Maitra was addressing the UN in India's right to reply.

"Prime Minister Khan’s threat of unleashing nuclear devastation qualifies as brinksmanship, not statesmanship... his justification of terrorism was brazen and incendiary," Maitra said, asking the Pak PM to address the following questions:

1. Can Pakistan confirm the fact that it is home to 130 UN designated terrorists and 25 terrorist entities listed by the UN, as of today?

2. Will Pakistan acknowledge that it is the only government in the world that provides pension to an individual listed by the UN in the Al Qaeda and Da’esh Sanctions list!

Khan's UNGA speech

Pakistan at UNGA seemed to have taken a cue from India as Pak PM brushed on the issue of climate change and urged countries with maximum greenhouse emission to take a call on the situation. Khan's speech quickly took a turn when he began speaking on Islamophobia and ended up warning of nuclear war at the global forum.

A last-ditch effort was made to internalise the Kashmir issue as Khan talked about minority and human rights while turning a blind eye to the state of minorities in his country and ignoring the plight of Uighurs in China.

In a scathing attack on Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan over his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), BJP lawmaker Subramanian Swamy on Saturday said it was a "roadside speech" and made under apparent pressure from the country's Army.

"He was speaking like he is addressing some people on the road. It was a very bad speech and only people sitting in the visitor's gallery were clapping. In the United Nations, you cannot comment on domestic politics (of another country) but should speak on international issues," Swamy said while talking to the media here.

He was answering queries from reporters at the Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi where he had gone in connection with the National Herald case.

Swamy said that the speech might make some "uneducated people" in Pakistan happy and they may call it a brave speech.

"Maybe he gave such a speech due to the pressure by Pakistan Army," he added.

Swamy said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his speech at the UNGA, spoke very well and spoke on various relevant issues.
