As per the officials present at the site, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), doctors and special teams are working near the borewell and a complete report will be given.

On October 25, the toddler fell into the borewell while playing near his house at about 5:30 pm here in Trichy.

Later, he slipped further down into the borewell.

More than six crews from the NDRF, as well as the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), have been deployed to rescue Wilson.

A medical team was also providing oxygen to the boy.

The mortal remains of two-year-old boy Sujith Wilson were retrieved in the wee hours of Tuesday from the unused tubewell after over 80 hours of rescue efforts by men and machines from private and government agencies.

Around 2:30 am Dr J Radhakrishnan, IAS, who was supervising the rescue operations declared Sujith dead. After the completion of post mortem, the mortal remains were laid to rest at around 8:30 am.

Sujith had fallen into an abandoned borewell near his home in Nadukattupatti village of Tamil Nadu’s Trichy District at around 5:30 pm Friday. The boy has been trapped in the borewell at a depth of around 88-feet, without food and water, but with oxygen supply.

While drilling of an 11-feet deep parallel pit (6-feet away from the borewell in which the boy was trapped)had been progressing since Sunday, the efforts were being hampered by the rocky terrain. Besides rigs, borewell drilling machines were also pressed into action. The borewell drilling equipment had dug 3 holes of 6 inches diameter unto a depth of 65-feet and a rig was being used to enlarge the pit, to enable rescue personnel to enter the pit and reach the boy after digging a horizontal tunnel.

Three ministers and several senior government officials had been present over the weekend at the site to supervise the rescue efforts that were being conducted by NDRF, SDRF personnel along with over 200 policemen and firemen.

However, rescue efforts were called off during the early hours of Tuesday after a foul stench emanated, suggesting that the child had died. “All the efforts to bring the child back alive had been done, but now in an unfortunate turn of events, a decomposed smell has started to come from the bore well in which the child had fallen.”

Tami Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi, DMK President MK Stalin and several other personalities from across fields condoled the death of Sujith.

DMK President MK Stalin visited the bereaved family, expressed his condolences and offered a solatium of Rs10 lakh.

Stalin emphasized that the government could have done better and taken more measures to save the child. “It took over 80 hours to rescue the child, but the government could have done better had they not been careless. They could have saved him when he was at 36 feet and shouldn’t have let him slip to 88 feet. I doubt if the ministers and officials were as committed to the rescue as much as in giving interviews to the media” He questioned the government on why the Army was not called, adding that he was not saying this to criticize the government.

Later in the evening, Chief Minister Edapppadi K Palaniswami visited the aggrieved household and offered his condolences to the family and announced a solatium of Rs.10lakhs on behalf of the State government and 10lakhs on behalf of the party.

Speaking to the media he said, “the government has undertaken maximum efforts to help the family, there were experts from NIT, ONGC, Anna University and also the private company L&T. We want to help the people when they are facing any difficulty and we need the cooperation of the public. Unused wells must be sealed with the necessary technical specifications.”

In a statement, the Chief Minister referred to the rules about the sinking of bore wells and safety measures that were gazette in 2015.

The CM stated that he had ordered the District collectors to ensure that the rules were adhered to, and in cases of negligence he urged officials to take strict action on those that were found responsible.

Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said the BJP national president Amit Shah has not given any conformation about giving the Chief Minister's post to Shiv Sena.

However, he asserted that BJP will be leading a stable government with Shiv Sena for the next five years.

"BJP will be leading the stable and efficient government of Mahayuti (alliance) for 5 years. I assure that this will be a BJP-led government. Our party president has confirmed that nothing has been decided on giving CM post to Shiv Sena. No formula has been decided yet," Fadnavis told reporters here.

He claimed that BJP has the support of 10 independent MLAs till now. "We expect 5 more independent MLAs to support us," Fadnavis added.

Earlier in the day, two independent MLAs extended their support to Devendra Fadnavis and his party even as the BJP and its ally Shiv Sena try to resolve issues linked to government formation in Maharashtra after the recently concluded Assembly elections.

Mahesh Baldi, MLA from Uran constituency and Gondia MLA Vinod Agrawal declared their support to the BJP under the leadership of Fadnavis. Earlier, rebel BJP MLA Geeta Jain had also extended support to the party.

At least five independent MLAs including Prahar Janshakti Party chief Bacchu Kadu, his party MLA Rajkumar Patel, Ashish Jaiswal, Narendra Bhondekar and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)-backed independent MLA Shankarrao Gadakh also extended their support to Shiv Sena.

The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance won an absolute majority in the Maharashtra Assembly polls with the former emerging as the single-largest party with 105 seats. Shiv Sena bagged 56 seats in the elections.

After the polls, Shiv Sena is adamant about the implementation of the 50:50 formula proposed by BJP during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The formula is a rotational arrangement in which a Chief Minister from each party will split the five-year term equally.

"The important question is who will be the chief minister? When the Lok Sabha elections were held we had decided on the 50-50 formula in the state," Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had said.

Video Opinion: Maintaining stability in West Asia

TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday hit out at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on a range of issues and stressed that although his party (TDP) faced some troubles, it never lost the cadre base.

"This party was floated by the great NT Rama Rao. Though the party may face some debacles, it never lost cadre base," he said while addressing party workers in Vijayawada.

The former Chief Minister said Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated in 2014 and was in much trouble then.

"I worked hard for the state. I ignored the personal family and party family. But now I am left with party and family only. I am pained that the people could not understand my efforts and defeated our party," he said.

"Sand scarcity became a big menace for the state. During our regime, we gave sand at free of cost. They alleged that we maintained sand mafia. But what is the situation now," he asked.

Naidu questioned if the incumbent Chief Minister has come out to resolve the problem. "Somebody said that Jagan is playing video games at house," he said.

The former Chief Minister accused YSRCP leaders of black marketing sand and alleged that now the cost of sand in the state is much higher than cement.

"Five persons committed suicide due to sand shortage and lack of works. Jagan is responsible for their deaths," he said.

Naidu also accused the government of troubling TDP leaders and cadres with cases and stressed that they are not afraid of it.

"In Assembly, YSRCP abused me. They found fault with our fight on mosquitoes. Now Dengue and other mosquito-related diseases prevalent all over the state," he said.

"On the name of savings, the Jagan government is not spending even a single penny. They are colouring buildings constructed by us, with their party colours. I tell them to paint their faces, not buildings," the former Chief Minister said.

Naidu claimed that he developed Hyderabad for fame, prestige, and development of Telugu community.

"Jagan tried to dig out the corruption of our regime but could dig nothing," he said.

On-farm loans, the former Chief Minister said, "TDP is the only government that waived loans of farmers to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakhs. We were ready to pay 4th and 5th instalments. But they objected."

"Rytu Bharosa is his scheme. But he did not pay the promised amount.
He reduced its level; reduced number of beneficiaries. Don't know whether he will pay the 2nd and 3rd instalments," Naidu wondered.

Taking a dig at the Chief Minister, Naidu said when people were suffering from floods, Jagan was on a tour in Jerusalem and the US.

"He filed cases against me for the unfortunate demise of people during Godavari pushkaram (kumbh). Now I question, who sank a boat in Godavari," he said.

He alleged that in the name of village secretariat jobs, they were looting public money for their party cadre.

"Power cuts have increased in the state. Soon power tariffs may also be increased," Naidu claimed.

He also hit out at the government for law and order situation and said, "Kodela Sivaprasad Rao did not commit suicide. It is the murder by the government."

"All the misdeeds of your govt and supporters of them ... We will not leave anything. I am listing out their misdeeds like Chitragupta," warned the former Chief Minister.

The former Chief Minister said YSRCP government lost all its prestige within five months.

"We will come to power soon. I have belief in party cadre," the TDP leader said.

TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday hit out at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on a range of issues and stressed that although his party (TDP) faced some troubles, it never lost the cadre base.

A Kerala nun has approached the Vatican, the highest seat in the Roman Catholic church hierarchy, against her dismissal from her congregation.

Sister Lucy Kalappura, one of the nuns who protested against the rape-accused bishop, Franco Mulakkal last year, has written to Congregation of Oriental Churches in the Vatican against her dismissal from Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC) and seeks to present her case before Pope Francis

"I will be granted an opportunity to present my case to Pope Francis... I rest my firm faith with the Tribunal that I will not be disowned and allowed to be destroyed for being faithful to my calling and responsive to the call of my spiritual conscience," Kalappura stated in the letter.

Sister Lucy was expelled by the FCC in August this year. Earlier, the congregation termed as "grave violations" the nun buying a car on loan, possessing a driving license, publishing a book and spending money without her superiors' permission.

Sister Lucy dismissed the charges, saying many of them were a "deliberate attempt to paint her in bad light."

She now seeks an opportunity to appear in person before a tribunal which would consider her appeal against the Congregation's decision.

"I fervently hope that the honourable members of the Tribunal would appreciate the truth that I am a collateral victim of this Franco Mulakkal scandal, in regard to which the mettle of the Church's commitment to truth and justice is being tested in full public view," her letter read.

In January this year, she was served the first warning letter by the Superior General of the Congregation, followed by two more in February and March for violating the vow of obedience.

Bishop Mulakkal, a senior member of the Roman Catholic clergy in India, was arrested last year following allegations by a nun that he repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted her at a Kuravilangad convent between 2014 and 2016, a charge that he denies.

The prelate is currently out on bail.

The ambassador stressed that the two countries are exploring closer cooperation in defence industries and noted that there has been an increase in the participation of Saudi Armed Forces personnel in Indian military courses.

Sayeed said that the trade between the two countries is growing at a healthy rate of 24 per cent annually, there is potential to double the "non-oil component" to $20 billion in the next five years.

He lauded the role played by Indian Diaspora in strengthening relations between the two countries saying the contribution of 2.6-million-strong Indian diaspora to the Kingdom's development is widely "acknowledged and appreciated."

Rescue efforts supported by various government agencies and private organizations have been underway for over 75 hours, after a 2-year old boy, Sujith fell into an abandoned borewell near his home in Nadukattupatti village of Tamil Nadu’s Trichy District at around 5:30pm Friday evening.

The boy has been trapped in the borewell at a depth of around 88-feet, without food and water, but with oxygen supply. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami tweeted, “Heavy duty drilling machines and equipments have been deployed and experts from NLC, ONGC, L&T and NIT Tiruchirapalli are at site to be of guidance. Further assistance would be sought depending on the status of the rescue efforts.” While drilling of an 11-feet deep parallel pit (six-feet away from the borewell in which the boy is trapped)has been progressing since Sunday, the efforts are being hampered by the rocky terrain. Besides rigs, borewell drilling machines are also pressed into action. The borewell drilling equipment has dug three holes of six inches diameter unto a depth of 65-feet and a rig is being used to enlarge the pit, in order to enable rescue personnel to enter the pit and reach the boy after digging a horizontal tunnel. There has been slight rainfall in the village, but the Meteorological Centre in Chennai has said that there is nil possibility of heavy rainfall in the region. Earlier in the day, Transport Secretary Dr. Radhakrishnan had said, “Tamil Nadu government will bear all the expenses necessary for rescuing the child, there is not enough space to use the balloon rescue technology in the well. Even though there is a prediction for light rains, we will continue work with necessary arrangements.” Three Tamil Nadu ministers are at the spot, accompanied by senior officials. Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam visited the site on Monday. Members of Parliament from across party lines visited the village and expressed hope in the rescue operations. Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi had tweeted about the incident on Sunday, “While the nation celebrates Deepavali, in Tamil Nadu a race against time is underway to save baby Surjeeth, who has been trapped in a borewell since Friday. I pray that he will be rescued & reunited with his distraught parents at the earliest.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “My prayers are with the young and brave Sujith Wilson. Spoke to CM @EPSTamilNadu regarding the rescue efforts underway to save Sujith. Every effort is being made to ensure that he is safe.” Round the clock efforts are underway with ambulances, Fire and Rescue Services, NDRF and SDRF in the ready, as prayers mount for the safe recovery of Sujith Wilson.

Jammu and Kashmir: Terrorists lob grenade at Sopore bus stand, 19 people injured

Defence experts PK Sehgal and Hemant Mahajan on Monday asserted that Pakistan is being undiplomatic by denying its airspace to Prime Minister Narendra Modi' flight and India has rightly complained about it to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

"Pakistan is a rogue nation. They don't believe in diplomatic courtesy. They don't adhere to any rules and regulation of ICAO. Pakistan ought to be punished," Sehgal told ANI.

"This move by Pakistan to deny airspace to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his movements is quite an undiplomatic act and India has rightly complained to ICAO. Pakistan is jealous of India's positive relationship with Saudi Arabia and therefore commits such undiplomatic acts. Saudi Arabia's biggest oil company Aramco is planning to open a centre on the western coast of India," Mahajan said.

As per media reports, Pakistan on October 27 turned down New Delhi's request for the use of its airspace for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Saudi Arabia on October 28. Prime Minister Modi will be visiting Saudi Arabia to participate in an international business conference on October 29.

Pakistan had earlier also denied Prime Minister Modi access to its air space for his visit to the United States to attend the 74th UN General Assembly session on September 20.

Then Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar had responded to Islamabad's unilateral actions, saying, "Pakistan should reflect upon its decision to deviate from well established international practice, as well as reconsider its old habit of misrepresenting the reasons for taking unilateral action.
