<p>India beat Australia by 24&nbsp;runs in Super 8 clash on Monday (June 24) to book a place in the semi-final of the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup. Chasing a target of 206, Australia could manage only 181/7 in 20 overs.</p>

<p>Australia started the chase horribly, losing David Warner in the first over itself. Mitchell Marsh (37) and Travis Head then added 77 runs for the second wicket before Kuldeep Yadav broke the partnership in the 9th over.</p>

<p>Glenn Maxwell then played&nbsp;a handy innings of 20 off 12, adding 41 runs for the third wicket with Head before Kuldeep struck again. Australia then kept losing wickets at&nbsp;regular intervals as Indian bowlers kept the net run-rate in check despite Head's 43-ball 76.</p>

<p>For India, Arshdeep was the pick of the bowlers with 3/37 in four overs but it was Kuldeep's 2/24 which made the difference. Apart from them, Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel also took one wicket each.</p>

<p>Axar Patel plucked a stunner out of thin air to bring India back in the contest against Australia, defending a total of 206 in the penultimate Group-1, Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chasing the challenging target, Australia were off to a poor start as David Warner edged one straight to Suryakumar Yadav, standing at first slip in the opening over by Arshdeep Singh. However, captain Mitch March and Travis Head joined forces and immediately started landing the counter-punches.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When it looked like the game was running away from India, Kuldeep Yadav bowled a flatter one on middle and leg in the ninth over which was smashed to Axar, stationed at deep backward square leg.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The all-rounder could not judge the ball early but adjusted himself and jumped at the right moment to not only grab the catch but also land safely so that the ball did not lob out of his hands.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India skipper Rohit Sharma got furious on wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant during the Super 8 match against Australia on Monday (June 24). Rohit's reaction&nbsp;came after Pant didn't attempt to take a catch in Australia's chase.</p>

<p>The incident happened in the second over of the Aussie innings when Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh fended a bouncer by Jasprit Bumrah awkwardly to leg gully position. Pant initially went after the ball but stopped mid-way and the ball dropped on the ground.</p>

<p>Pacer Chris Jordan became the first England bowler to take a hattrick in T20 Internationals as he destroyed the USA lower order during the Super 8 clash in Barbados on Sunday (Jun 23).&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p>The right-arm speedster was shoehorned into the playing XI due to the indifferent form of Mark Wood but showed his class by ripping through the inexperienced yet dogged US batting lineup. The milestone was all the more special for Jordan as it came at Jordan's birthplace.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Unbelievable feeling (to take the hattrick), was good to restrict them. Getting it (hattrick) at a special place is always nice. Glad I was able to hit on the target. Just finished it off towards the end," said Jordan.</p>

<p>"We summed up the conditions pretty well, we knew they will came hard at us in the powerplay, USA have been playing well in the tournament. Rashid set up the game for us," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Riyan would occupy the middle order spot in the Indian batting lineup after a breakout season with Rajasthan Royals where he batted at no. 4.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Nitish is expected to be Hardik Pandya's replacement as the Indian T20 squad goes under significant changes post the World Cup. With Gautam Gambhir set to take the head coach job, according to media reports, Nitish could be a pivotal part of the T20 team going forward.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The tour gets underway on July 6 at the iconic Harare Sports Club, which will also host the remaining four matches over the course of next eight days.</p>

<p>Pakistan men's cricket team assistant coach, Azhar Mahmood, has threatened to take legal action against those who levelled allegations of match-fixing against him and targeted his family during the ongoing T20 World Cup.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Pakistan crashed out of the league stage of the tournament, some aggregator&nbsp;accounts on social media and influencers smeared the allegations against Mahmood and other officials.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The former cricketer took to his social media handles to clear the air and stated that he was 'pursuing legal advice' against those responsible for the allegations.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I have heard some false allegations and narratives circulating on social media and other media platforms. I categorically state that these allegations are entirely baseless and false, and it is extremely upsetting to hear them," said Mahmood.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I will be pursuing legal advice against those responsible for making these false allegations towards me &amp; my family, and strict action will be taken accordingly. We will not be discussing this matter further on social media," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Math dictates that Australia will need to overcome India by 41 runs to go past their NRR while Afghanistan will have to subdue Bangladesh by at least 83 runs.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What about Bangladesh?</strong></h2>

<p>The Bangla Tigers have a tall mountain to climb, especially given their inconsistent form in the tournament. The team will need to win by 31 runs to leapfrog Afghanistan's NRR, but they will also need India to annihilate Australia by at least 55 runs, to finish second in the group.</p>

If Australia and Afghanistan win In case, Australia floor India and Afghanistan follow suit by beating Bangladesh, three teams will finish on four points and the Net Run Rate (NRR) will come into play. If defending the total, Australia win by a margin of a solitary run, Afghanistan will need a 36-run margin to move ahead of the Down Under side on NRR. If Australia win a run-chase off the last ball, Afghanistan will have to win their game in 15.4 overs or sooner (assuming first-innings scores of 160). While it looks unlikely, there is a scenario where India can be knocked out of the tournament despite winning two matches. If both Australia and Afghanistan win their matches by big margins, India may have to book a returning ticket. Math dictates that Australia will need to overcome India by 41 runs to go past their NRR while Afghanistan will have to subdue Bangladesh by at least 83 runs. What about Bangladesh? The Bangla Tigers have a tall mountain to climb, especially given their inconsistent form in the tournament. The team will need to win by 31 runs to leapfrog Afghanistan's NRR, but they will also need India to annihilate Australia by at least 55 runs, to finish second in the group. The final round of matches in Group 1 will be played on Monday (Jun 24) with India vs Australia taking place early in the day at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia. <p>The former India opener, however, said that he's always thought about performing for the fans and nothing else.</p>

<p>Most recently, Gambhir took Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third title in 2024 season as the mentor of the team. It is to be noted that KKR's previous two IPL title had also come under Gambhir's captaincy.</p>

<p>The Delhi-based player has already appeared for an interview before the BCCI for the head coach job and is expected to take the reins after Rahul Dravid's tenure ends after the ongoing T20 World Cup.</p>
