Kate Winslet found it hard to take in all the overnight success that came her way after Titanic became the most successful film ever at the time of its release. The first to gross $1 billion worldwide and having broken several records at the Oscars, Titanic was a game-changer for the leading cast, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. Things changed overnight for the two with a constant vigil on their lives, their careers, and more.

Kate Winslet took smaller roles post-Titanic

Kate Winslet, in an interview with Net-a-Porter, said that she actively took smaller roles and independent films after the success of Titanic. Kate said, “[Young women now] know how to use their voice. I felt like [in the aftermath of Titanic] I had to look a certain way, or be a certain thing, and because media intrusion was so significant at that time, my life was quite unpleasant. Journalists would always say, ‘After Titanic, you could have done anything and yet you chose to do these small things’…and I was like, ‘Yeah, you bet your fu***** life I did! Because, guess what, being famous was horrible’.”

She added, “I was grateful, of course. I was in my early twenties and I was able to get a flat. But I didn’t want to be followed literally feeding the ducks.”

Kate was body-shamed

Kate Winslet was body shamed post the success of Titanic as people dissected whether Jack could have survived if Rose (her character) was slimmer. In 2022 in a podcast, Kate said that her physical appearance became a subject of discussion for all. She said that film watchers have debated if there was enough room on the floating door for Kate Winslet’s Rose and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack to both survive the freezing Atlantic waters.

At the time, she said, “Apparently I was too fat. Why were they so mean to me? They were so mean. I wasn’t even fucking fat.”

I’m a young woman, my body is changing, I’m figuring it out, I’m deeply insecure, I’m terrified, don’t make this any harder than it already is.’ That’s bullying, you know, and borderline abusive, I would say.”

Kate Winslet had a hard time after the Titanic's success. She said that the fame that came with it was more than what a “young, vulnerable person can cope with”. She’s happy all this is changing and people are more sensitised than before about these topics.

Valentine’s Day: 5 Bollywood Male Characters Who Are Pure Green Flags

Who cares about how they look? All that matters is whether they can enchant you, tempt you and make you fall in love with their actions. We are talking about our top 5 picks of male characters from Bollywood films who embody the idea of men written by women.

Adi and Tara are two millennials who find their way back together amid personal struggles. Adi is a man we’d all like in our lives as he’s goofy, supportive and willing to make sacrifices for his love instead of just expecting it all.

Vikram Verma is a purebred green flag. He’s successful but he doesn’t rub it in, he loves the girl but is never imposing. He’s that guy who offers unhinged friendship.

Ranveer Singh from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

Even though at the outset, Rocky is a loud, garish Punjabi boy who you’d think would perpetuate regular conventional society standards, he turns out to be quite the opposite. Rocky makes an effort to unlearn the male entitlement ingrained in his upbringing. He learns that it’s okay to engage in things like dancing and washing clothes without compromising his masculinity.

This list would be incomplete without mentioning Ram who can melt your heart with just a smile. Dulquer as Lieutenant Ram plays an orphan who after an act of bravery starts receiving letters from across India. One of them is from Sita and the two set off on a journey of heart-wrenching love that will make you fall in love with Ram.

If there was such a thing as healthy masculinity, then Satya from the film is it. Satya is a walking green flag as he not only woos his crush Katha, played by Kiara Advani but also proves that love goes beyond just the physical realm.

Taylor Swift- Travis Kelce kiss post Kansas City Chief's Super Bowl win goes viral

It was an enchanting night at New Delhi’s Sundar Nursery on February 10 as folk music from the Indian states of Meghalaya, Rajasthan, and Gujarat resounded with Mookhuri, Manganiyar, and The Tapi project musicians belting out rural sounds and melodies for music lovers. Called Amarass Nights at Sundar Nursery as part of Village Square’s Village Vibe event, audiences tapped into raw sounds that often go unexplored.

WION spoke to Mookhuri band members about the inspiration behind their music, modernising traditional songs for contemporary audiences, and more.

Mookhuri bringing Meghalayan folk music to fore

Focusing on Khasi-Jaintia traditions, Mookhuri members explained that they started this band in the year 2014 to make people aware of traditional and folk music. The band members explained, “These days more importance is given to Western music vs our folk music. We wanted to change that. This is why we came up with this band.”

“In Meghalaya, especially in the Khasi and Jaintia communities, we believe that music begins from the hearth, where the three stones lie. Mookhuri means the three stones that are found in every traditional kitchen – the one that balances pots and pans for cooking. While thinking of the name, we thought it would connect with everyone. Back in the olden days, music never started directly on the stage or in front of the public, it began from the kitchen when a father would sing to his children or a mother would hum for herself,” they said.

While they sing in their traditional language, they don’t think it dissuades music lovers from humming with them since music is “more about expression or emotion.”

Also, it has never crossed their minds to contemporise their traditional songs for the newer audience who might find it hard to relate. “We don’t plan on fusing or modernising traditional music because we believe in authenticity. We also believe that folk music itself is pure and beautiful. We feel like we don’t need to modernise it,” they said on whether they would ever fusionise their music.

Mookhuri performed in the heart of Delhi as part of Village Square’s mission of highlighting rural India's stories and indigenous culture. On their collaboration with the project, the band said, “We love the theme of Village Square as they want to promote, bring to life, or bring to the wider crowd, musicians like us who don’t get a platform and who are not very popular. A platform like Village Square is very important because by performing here people get to know that such tribal music also exists.

A night dedicated to folk music of India

Mookhuri entertained audiences with songs steeped in the cultural traditions of the Khasi-Jaintia community. The four-member band named after the three-stone stove in Meghalaya's kitchens introduced them to the sounds of manjira (small hand cymbals), the four-stringed instrument duitara, and percussion instruments like kabom and ksing shynrang. The Tapi Project played songs where funk, trip-hop, jazz, and folk sounds melded seamlessly to take audiences on a journey unlike any other. Rajasthani musicians Ghewar and Firoze, sons of the late Padma Shri recipient Sakar Khan, played kamaicha and the dholak respectively, and brought with them a vast repertoire of traditional folk music of the Manganiyar community.

Mookhuri bringing Meghalayan folk music to fore Focusing on Khasi-Jaintia traditions, Mookhuri members explained that they started this band in the year 2014 to make people aware of traditional and folk music. The band members explained, “These days more importance is given to Western music vs our folk music. We wanted to change that. This is why we came up with this band.” “In Meghalaya, especially in the Khasi and Jaintia communities, we believe that music begins from the hearth, where the three stones lie. While they sing in their traditional language, they don’t think it dissuades music lovers from humming with them since music is “more about expression or emotion.” Also, it has never crossed their minds to contemporise their traditional songs for the newer audience who might find it hard to relate. A night dedicated to folk music of India Mookhuri entertained audiences with songs steeped in the cultural traditions of the Khasi-Jaintia community.
Donald Trump minced no words while taking a dig at pop star Taylor Swift who he called “disloyal” to the man who made her so much money. With elections on their way in the US, Taylor has kept her name clear from the elections and made no suggestions of whom she is supporting. But the last time around, Taylor had vowed to keep Trump out of the White House and announced she voted Democrat.

With Trump back in the race for the top post, he did not waste time in reminding Taylor that it was he who helped her get so famous and make so much money.
