Former producer&nbsp;Harvey Weinstein on Thursday was sentenced to 16 years in prison over the charge of raping a European actress in a Beverly Hills hotel room a decade ago.

The 70-year-old producer who is already serving a 23-year sentence over a sex crimes conviction in New York was handed the latest sentence by a Los Angeles court.

Weinstein attended the hearing in a wheelchair, and requested, "Please don't sentence me to life in prison. I don't deserve it. There are so many things wrong with this case."

However, Judge Lisa Lench handed him three consecutive sentences including forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by a foreign object, and forcible rape, which totals 16 years.&nbsp;

The actress, whose identity has not been revealed, urged Lench to give Weinstein "the maximum sentence allowable," which would have been 18 years.

She said, "His selfish, disgusting actions have greatly impacted my life. There is no prison sentence long enough to undo the damage."

The producer's attorneys said that they will appeal the Los Angeles verdict, which came with his conviction by a jury in December last year.

However, prosecutors said Weinstein exploited and abused women for years, and enjoyed impunity because of his then-powerful position in the movie industry.

Other than this case, a jury has not yet reached a verdict on charges relating to the alleged assaults of two other women, one of whom was identified as Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the now-wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom.

In a historic vote&nbsp;at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Thursday, countries condemned Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.&nbsp;The assembly "overwhelmingly" demanded Moscow to withdraw from Kyiv "immediately," with a call for "just and lasting" peace.

In the assembly, 141 voted in favour of the resolution, 32 abstained, including China and India and seven&nbsp;voted against it.&nbsp;

"They are ready to plunge the entire world into the abyss of war" to maintain their own "hegemony," Nebenzya said.&nbsp;

The vote also showed India and China had not been swayed to outright condemn Russia's invasion, even while both have criticised Moscow's threats to deploy weapons in the conflict.&nbsp;

Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke announced Holder's sentence after hearing from Hussle's friend and reading a letter from his father.

After a month-old trial, the 32-year-old was also found guilty of voluntary manslaughter.&nbsp;He was ineligible for the death penalty but was expected to receive a life sentence.

During the hearing, prosecutors alleged that the attack was premeditated, however, Holder's attorney Aaron Jansen, argued it was a heat-of-the-moment decision.

On the other hand, Jansen said he was 'deeply disappointed' with the verdict and planned to appeal. He added that we did manage to secure a minor victory for Holder by receiving an 'attempted voluntary manslaughter conviction' as opposed to an attempted murder verdict.

The&nbsp;evidences&nbsp;against Holder were found overwhelming, including eyewitnesses to surveillance cameras which clearly showed his arrival and departure&nbsp;which his&nbsp;attorney,&nbsp;Jansen&nbsp;conceded&nbsp;during the&nbsp;hearing.

He mentioned that the deterrence would&nbsp;involve "effective&nbsp;deployment of US strategic assets, exercises and training."

Therefore, the lesson South Korea learned from this is when we are strong, "North Korea comes to the dialogue table. When we are weak, they try to take advantage of that vulnerability. So we have to prepare ourselves through our defense and also through deterrence to talk with the North."

The move by the country's e-safety commissioner keeps a spotlight on the anti-exploitation practices at 'Twitter' under the new ownership of Tesla CEO&nbsp;Elon Musk, who called 'child protection,' his top priority.

Referring to Musk's tweets, e-safety commissioner Julie Inman Grant told Reuters, "with Elon Musk declaring child sexual abuse a top priority, this is an opportunity for him to explain what he is indeed doing."

Apart from writing to Twitter, the commissioner also sent these letters to Alphabet Inc's Google, to the owner of YouTube and&nbsp;China's TikTok.

Responding to the letter, Google's senior manager of government affairs and public policy Samantha Yorke said, "we utilise a range of industry standard scanning techniques including hash-matching technology and artificial intelligence to identify and remove (child abuse material) that has been uploaded to our services."

As per new laws in Australia, the e-safety commissioner can compel tech&nbsp;companies to give detailed information about the&nbsp;exploitation on their platforms and about measures they take to prevent&nbsp;it.

According to estimates, companies that fail to cooperate will face fines of up to&nbsp;$478,000 per day.

Last year, the e-commissioner sent similar letters to Apple Inc, Microsoft Corp and Facebook owner Meta Platforms. However, after receiving their responses, the commissioner called their practices 'inadequate.'

"We expected only to find tiny, young, baby galaxies at this point in time, but we’ve discovered galaxies as mature as our own in what was previously understood to be the dawn of the universe."

The observation comes from the first dataset released from NASA's James Webb space telescope, which is equipped with an infrared-sensing instrument that is capable of detecting light emitted by most of the ancient stars and galaxies.&nbsp;

Dr Erica Nelson from the Univeristy of Colorado Boulder spotted a series of 'fuzzy dots' that appeared unusually bright and red.&nbsp;

"A dictator bent on rebuilding an empire will never be able to ease the people's love of liberty, brutality will never grind down the will of the free. Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia -- never," said the US president, seemingly referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He also asserted that freedom is at stake in the war.&nbsp;

During his speech, the US president said, Putin thought that NATO would fracture and divide but it is more united than ever before. "He thought he could weaponise energy, crack Europe's resolve, and instead we are working to end Europe's dependence from Russia's fossil fuels."

The address in Warsaw came hours after the Russian president addressed a joint session of parliament where accused the West of escalating the war in Ukraine. Following Biden's speech, Polish President Andrzej Duda gave thanks to his American counterpart for his support for Kyiv and said, "We stand in solidarity with Ukraine, and we will stand in solidarity&nbsp;with&nbsp;Ukraine."

In the first sign of a break in a long-running dispute in the United Kingdom, nurses will pause their planned strike actions to enter "intensive talks" with the government on pay and working conditions, both sides said on Tuesday.

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and the government said that the first talks would start on Wednesday (Feb 22) after health minister Steve Barclay meets medical representatives.

Responding to the letter, education union secretary Kevin Courtney said there was nothing for them to call off the strikes and added that their decision might change after the national executive meeting on Saturday.&nbsp;
