The Kurdish Democratic Party of&nbsp;Iran, one of the groups targeted, charged that "these cowardly attacks are occurring at a time when the terrorist regime of&nbsp;Iran&nbsp;is unable to crack down on ongoing&nbsp;protests&nbsp;inside and silence the Kurdish and Iranian peoples' civil resistance".

Not a big deal

The Iranian government -- its economy already hit by sanctions over its nuclear programme -- has sought to play down the crisis.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said he told Western diplomats at recent UN meetings that the&nbsp;protests&nbsp;were "not a big deal" for the stability of the clerical state.

"There is not going to be regime change in&nbsp;Iran. Don't play to the emotions of the Iranian people," he told National Public Radio in New York, also accusing "outside elements" of stirring up violence.

Fars news agency said Tuesday "around 60" people had been killed since&nbsp;Amini's&nbsp;death. But the Oslo-based group&nbsp;Iran&nbsp;Human Rights said the crackdown has killed at least 76 people.

Iran's response has drawn concern from the United Nations and condemnation from the around the world, with Germany and Spain summoning the Iranian ambassadors and the United States and Canada announcing new sanctions.

The son of&nbsp;Iran's late shah, in an interview near Washington with AFP,&nbsp;hailed the&nbsp;protests&nbsp;and urged the world to add to the pressure on the clerical leadership.

Reza Pahlavi, whose father was toppled in the 1979 Islamic Revolution, urged greater preparation for a future Iranian system that is secular and democratic.

"It is truly in modern times, in my opinion, the first revolution for the women, by the women -- with the support of the Iranian men, sons, brothers and fathers," said Pahlavi.

If trips this holiday reached half the levels of 2019 and spending over the period reached 30 per cent&nbsp;to 40 per cent&nbsp;of holiday spending before the pandemic, that would amount to a "pretty good" result, he added.

Liu's projection of a halving in the number of trips would make for the worst figure in a decade, according to Reuters calculations based on government data.

In the past two years, China's Golden Week travel and spending have fallen short of the levels of 2019, which racked up 782 million trips and tourism revenue of 650 billion yuan ($90 billion).

Health officials urged people this month to stay put for Golden Week and adopted new rules requiring negative Covid&nbsp;test results less than 48 hours old for travellers planning to take trains and planes, or cross provincial borders by bus.

About 7.8 million passenger trips are likely be made by air over the holiday, down 16% from last year, while daily passenger flights will fall at least a fifth, flight data services company VariFlight estimates.

Two issues on the agenda -- defending communities' intellectual property and the restitution of cultural property -- are of particular interest to Mexico and other Latin American countries.

Italy: 'Very real fears' for LGBT community after Meloni's win as the new prime minister

US secretary of state Antony Blinken, during a press conference with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar, said the two countries have "the most consequential partnership" in the world.

He said both countries have made significant progress in elevating their partnership through organisations like QUAD, the G20, and other global organisations, including at the United Nations. India's takeover of the G20 presidency in December this year is a way to drive more global cooperation and action, he added.

During their bilateral&nbsp;meeting on Tuesday, Blinken and Jaishankar discussed how both countries could achieve their economic, geopolitical, and security goals, including strengthening the India-US partnership.

Blinken referred to this alliance as an essential need to address every political challenge that people face, including climate change, health, and food security.

Blinken said, "Over the past years, we have made real progress in elevating that partnership bilaterally that is directly between us through institutions like the QUAD and the G-20 and in international organisations, including at the United Nations."

Jaishankar stated that the scope and depth of the US-India relationship have grown significantly, PTI reported. The Indian external affairs minister specifically mentioned that his conversation with Blinken also included a discussion on the turmoil in Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific situation.

A day earlier, Jaishankar had also met defence secretary Llyod Austin and commerce secretary Gina Raimondo.

Blinken said that US and India are looking for new ways to develop a much stronger economic partnership, through Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, which both countries introduced in May.&nbsp;
