<p>"So it might be in August that ICC will have a new chairman," he added.</p>

<p>The BCCI, however, remains wary of the Vidarbha lawyer, who was seen as an adversary by some in the Indian Board.</p>

<p>"Till Manohar steps down officially, I will not like to believe (anything). Seeing is believing. He still has a term left. If he decides at the last moment that he wants to continue then it will be a different story," a BCCI veteran said.</p>

<p>Hong Kong's Imran Khawaja's name was initially floated as Manohar's possible successor, but it is understood that he doesn't have the support of the full members.</p>

<p>ECB chairman Graves, who is supposed to step down from his country's board in November 2020, has emerged as the favourite for the ICC top job.</p>

<p>Those in the know of ICC's board room politics feel that Graves' biggest advantage at this point is support from all the major Test-playing nations.</p>

<p>"England, New Zealand, Australia and West Indies will support Graves' candidature. He also shares a great rapport with BCCI although the world's richest cricket board has not openly supported any candidate," the Board member said.</p>

<p>It is expected that BCCI will have a better working relationship with Graves compared to Manohar, whom they have time and again accused of not keeping Indian interest in mind unlike the times of N Srinivasan.</p>

<p>At ECB, Graves will be succeeded by former FA Chief Executive Ian Whatmore.</p>

<p>"Our biggest challenge, along with other sports, is how we could seek to implement a bio-secure solution that offers optimum safety and security for all concerned."</p>

<p>Under the plans, nine rounds of fixtures will be lost in the four-day County Championship season, but time slots for red-ball and white-ball cricket will remain in a revised schedule.</p>

<p>The lucrative Twenty20 Blast will be pushed as late in the season as possible. All matches previously scheduled in June will be moved later in the season.</p>

<p>England are also scheduled to play Twenty20 and one-day games at home to Australia in July, with three Tests and three Twenty20s against Pakistan in August and September.</p>

<p>China is in the throes of a multibillion-dollar splurge on new football stadiums, ramping up ambitions to be a superpower in the sport and host a World Cup as early as 2030.</p>

<p>The building spree is taking place despite the coronavirus pandemic which has brought much of the world to a standstill, ravaging economies and putting live sport on hold.</p>

<p>But with the outbreak receding in China, where it emerged in December, Chinese Super League (CSL) champions Guangzhou Evergrande last week began construction on their 12 billion yuan ($1.7 billion) new home.</p>

<p>With a capacity of 100,000, the lotus flower-shaped stadium will for a time trump Barcelona's Camp Nou -- which is set for expansion -- as the world's biggest football arena, once it is completed by the end of 2022.</p>

<p>Evergrande Group, a major property developer founded by one of China's richest men, said it also intends to build two more 80,000-seater stadiums in China.</p>

<p>The country will have at least 12 major new football stadiums two years from now, said the state-run Southern Metropolis Daily, calling it "a new era for Chinese football".</p>

<p>Most will be used for the newly expanded 2021 Club World Cup and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, but President Xi Jinping has his eyes on the biggest prize of all.</p>

<p>"I think China's desire to apply for the World Cup is very clear," said Ji Yuyang, a journalist for the Oriental Sports Daily.</p>

<p>Ji said it was a matter of when, not if, China bids.&nbsp;</p>

<p>FIFA president Gianni Infantino&nbsp;said in June that he would welcome a Chinese bid to stage the 2030 World Cup, the next one up for grabs.</p>

<p>Guangzhou Evergrande's new stadium made headlines because of its vast scale and bold design.</p>

<p>But it jarred because most sport in the world is shut down and economies, including China's -- the second largest -- are reeling from coronavirus.</p>

<p>Moreover, Guangzhou is not holding Asian Cup games and the stadium will not be ready for the Club World Cup, even though the tournament is poised to be put back from the summer of 2021 because of the pandemic.</p>

<p>Critics also queried why a club that averages about 50,000 for home matches needs such a big arena.</p>

<p>"I think Evergrande may have two considerations. First, a 100,000-seat stadium might come in handy if China hosts a World Cup final or opening ceremony," said Ji.</p>

<p>"Another point is that Evergrande will be able to make a statement by saying that they have the largest professional football stadium in the world, with the largest number of spectators."</p>

<p>Most stadiums currently used by Chinese football teams were built for multiple sports. They are falling into disrepair and facilities for fans are poor.</p>

<p>Replacing them with gleaming, football-specific arenas fits with Xi's master plan to transform the sport in the country on and off the pitch.</p>

<p>However, Chinese media said on Thursday that Sun had been included on a list of swimmers called up for national training between April 1 and June 30.</p>

<p>Media published a notice purporting to show Sun's name on the list for preparations for the Olympics, which have been moved to the summer of 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.</p>

<p>The Chinese Swimming Association (CSA) subsequently said that the 1500m freestyle world record-holder is "still serving (his) suspension.</p>

<p>"The previous notice is invalid," CSA said in a short statement.</p>

<p>But that may not satisfy WADA, who said in a short statement to AFP on Friday: "We are following up with the relevant authorities to establish the facts in this matter."</p>

<p>Sun has kept a low profile since he was banned. It was his second doping violation, having been suspended for three months in 2014 for taking a banned substance.</p>

<p>Sun said in the immediate aftermath of February's Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling that he would appeal to the Swiss Federal Tribunal.</p>

Happy birthday Sachin Tendulkar: Wishes pour in from all corners as Master Blaster turns 47

<p>The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday hosted a Chief Executives’ Committee meeting via conference call as CEO’s of the 12 full members and three Associate representatives came together and committed to working in partnership to address the challenges cricket is facing or will face during the time of COVID-19 pandemic.</p>

<p>The meeting saw updates from all the members relating to the situation surrounding the dreaded virus in their respective countries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The CEC was updated on the contingency planning for all ICC global events including the likes of ICC T20 World Cup 2020 and ICC Women’s World Cup 2021 as it was decided that planning for both the events will continue as per the schedule.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The members further agreed that the disrupted Future Tours Programme (FTP) would need to be reviewed through to 2023 with a plan to reschedule as many cricket series as possible that has been postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.</p>

<p>ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said: “I am grateful to my fellow CEOs for their clear commitment to a unified approach to steering cricket through this pandemic. We will work in partnership for the best outcomes for the sport in relation to both ICC events and bilateral cricket.</p>

<p>Decisions on the World Test Championship and the ICC Men’s World Cup Super League will be held at a later date when there is a clear understanding of how much cricket has been lost due to the pandemic.&nbsp;</p>
