Former United States president Donald Trump promised on Tuesday that he would seek to end automatic citizenship which is given to children of undocumented immigrants in the country. Trump has reignited an issue which was settled around 125 years ago by the supreme court.&nbsp;

In a video posted on social media, Trump said that if he gets elected, he will sign an executive order to ensure the kids of such migrants "will not receive automatic US citizenship".&nbsp;

However, if he takes such action, it would face condemnation and most certainly draw a legal challenge.&nbsp;

In the same video posted on social media, Trump said that the move would be part of the broader crackdown on unauthorised immigrants and asylum-seekers in case he returns to the White House.&nbsp;

In a video, Trump said, "My policy will choke off a major incentive for continued illegal immigration, deter more migrants from coming and encourage many of the aliens Joe Biden has unlawfully let into our country to go back to their home countries. They must go back."&nbsp;

As quoted by CBS News, Stephen Yale-Loehr, who is an immigration law professor at Cornell University, said. "Any executive action that a president might try to end birthright citizenship would be challenged in court and would be likely struck down as unconstitutional." Yale-Loehr added that the move would likely not pass legal muster, but it could be a beneficial campaign tactic for Trump.&nbsp;

Yale-Loehr further said, "I think it's pretty clear that, for political purposes, he thinks that this kind of announcement will appeal to his base. It shows that he has anti-immigration credentials. And most of his voters don't know or don't care about whether such an executive order would be legal."&nbsp;

Donald Trump vows to end birthright citizenship for children of unauthorised immigrants

Canadian national&nbsp;Matthew&nbsp;Dupre&nbsp;has been successfully extradited to Thailand in connection with the killing last year of a criminal gang member, Thai authorities said on Monday, after the former soldier arrived in Bangkok on a special air force flight.

Dupre, 38, is wanted for the alleged murder of suspected criminal Jimi Sandhu, who was shot dead in Phuket in February 2022, central investigation bureau commissioner Jirabhop Bhuridej told a news conference.

"The deceased is connected with the United Nation Gang and was linked to the murder of one of&nbsp;the leaders of another gang, called the Red Scorpion, in Canada," Jirabhop said.

Police footage showed&nbsp;Dupre&nbsp;in handcuffs and surrounded by police on an airplane. The extradition involved a Thai air force flight after commercial airlines declined requests for transport over safety concerns, Thai police said.

"We have to get hold of the suspect so that he be prosecuted under the Thai judicial system," state prosecutor Intranee Sumawong said, adding that&nbsp;Dupre&nbsp;would not face the death penalty under the extradition bill.

"We have to ensure that there is security in Thailand and uphold our reputation that this country is safe to live in," she said.

An Alberta court approved the extradition of&nbsp;Dupre&nbsp;last December.

The Qatari prime minister held secret talks with the supreme leader of the Taliban this month on resolving tension with the international community, a source briefed on the meeting said, signalling a new willingness by Afghanistan's rulers to discuss ways to end their isolation.

The May 12 meeting in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar between Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani and Haibatullah Akhunzada is the first the reclusive Taliban chief is known to have held with a foreign leader.

US&nbsp;President Joe Biden's administration was briefed on the talks and is "coordinating on all issues discussed" by the pair, including furthering dialogue with the Taliban, said the source.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said other issues Sheikh Mohammed raised with Haibatullah included the need to end a Taliban bans on girls' education and women's employment.

The meeting represents a diplomatic success for Qatar, which has criticized Taliban restrictions on women while using long-standing ties with the Islamist movement to push for deeper engagement with Kabul by the international community.

The United States has led demands for the Taliban to end the bans on girls' schooling and women working, including for UN&nbsp;agencies and humanitarian groups, to restore their freedom of movement and bring Afghans from outside Taliban ranks into government.

The source's comments suggested that Washington supported elevating what have been unproductive lower-level talks in the hope of a breakthrough that could end the world's only bans of their kind and ease dire humanitarian and financial crises that have left tens of millions of Afghans hungry and jobless.

The White House declined to comment on the talks. The State Department and the Qatar embassy in Washington did not respond to requests for comment.

The Taliban did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT BANS

The restrictions on women's schooling and work have stymied humanitarian aid and are key reasons why no country has recognized Taliban rule since they seized power in August 2021, after the Western-backed government collapsed as the last US-led international troops departed following two decades of war.

The treatment by the Taliban of women and girls could amount to a crime against humanity, according to a UN&nbsp;report presented in March at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The Taliban say they respect women’s rights in line with their interpretation of Islamic law and Afghan customs.&nbsp;

Haibatullah, a hardline Islamist, has shown little willingness to compromise on his edicts.

His meeting with Sheikh Mohammed, however, suggests that he is open to exploring avenues for ending Afghanistan's isolation and boosting relief programs as the country sinks into hunger and poverty.

"It was a very positive meeting," said the source. Haibatullah was "very interested" in continuing a dialogue with the international community.

But eventual recognition by other countries of the Taliban administration, senior members of which remain under US&nbsp;and international sanctions, is far from assured given their treatment of women and poor human rights record.

Sheikh Mohammed raised with Haibatullah the need to lift the bans on women's education and employment, including the bar on them working for UN&nbsp;agencies and other humanitarian groups, the source said.

The Taliban administration has been promising since January written guidelines allowing aid groups to operate with female staff.

The Taliban in March 2022 barred girls from high schools and extended the ban to universities in December.

They say they will reopen secondary schools to girls when "conditions" have been met, including devising an Islamic syllabus.

ADDRESSING HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

Sheikh Mohammed and Haibatullah also discussed efforts to remedy Afghanistan's humanitarian crisis, the source said.

The United Nations says nearly three-quarters of Afghanistan's 40 million people need help and it has warned that funding is drying up.

Sheikh Mohammed, the source said, raised with Haibatullah the "continued efforts on the ground" by the Taliban on counterterrorism, an apparent reference to Kabul's drive to crush an Islamic State affiliate.

The main ideological foe of the Taliban is based mostly in eastern Afghanistan but has targeted minorities and embassies in Kabul.

The US&nbsp;and its allies say the Taliban harbor members of al Qaeda and the Pakistani Taliban. The Afghan Taliban deny that.

Sheikh Mohammed, who also serves as Qatar's foreign minister, met publicly in Kandahar with Mullah Hassan Akhund, the Taliban prime minister, on the same day he met the supreme leader. He was accompanied by Qatar's intelligence chief.

Neither side, however, revealed the talks with Haibatullah.

He almost never leaves Kandahar but has been the paramount religious, political and military leader of the Taliban since 2016, guiding the movement to victory over the Western-backed Kabul government.

Qatar allowed the militants to open a political office in Doha in 2013 and facilitated their talks with Washington that led to the 2020 deal for a withdrawal of the US-led international force that they fought for 20 years.

While the tiny Gulf monarchy has no formal diplomatic ties with Afghanistan, its Kabul embassy is open and represents US&nbsp;interests there.

Qatar has long pressed the international community to agree a "roadmap" of steps for the Taliban to gain recognition, arguing that isolating Afghanistan could worsen regional security.

Astronomers have discovered a "quasi-moon" — an asteroid that orbits the Earth but is actually gravitationally bound by the Sun. It is called 2023 FW13 and was spotted recently, causing a stir among space enthusiasts.&nbsp;

Experts&nbsp;used the Pan-STARRS telescope at the top of the Haleakala volcano in Hawaii to observe the space rock which has been labelled a quasi-moon.&nbsp;

Sky and Telescope's report has mentioned that experts believe that it has been orbiting Earth since 100 BC and will continue to do so for at least another 1,500 years.&nbsp;

If all calculations are correct (or close to correct) then 2023 FW13 would be the most stable Earth-like quasi-satellite ever discovered.&nbsp;

Earth's fake Moon? This 'quasi-moon' has circled Earth since at least 100 BC, and will continue to do so

Italy's fire department said over&nbsp;the weekend that the authorities are working to find out why the waters in Venice's main canal turned fluorescent green on Sunday in the area near the Rialto bridge.&nbsp;

The department said in a tweet that the regional environmental protection agency was working to identify the substance that changed their colour.&nbsp;

The green water painted an eerie picture of the spectacular city of Venice — one of the most famous tourist spots across Europe.&nbsp;

Now the reason has finally been&nbsp;revealed.&nbsp;Local authorities said on Monday that the transformation was due to fluorescein, a non-toxic substance used for testing wastewater networks.&nbsp;

The Regional Agency for Environmental Prevention and Protection of Veneto (Arpav) said that the analysis showed "the presence of fluorescein in samples taken".&nbsp;

Ukraine war: At least one dead as Russia launches 'massive' drone attack on Kyiv

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio&nbsp;Kishida's son will resign as his aide, the premier said on Monday, after photos of the son and other relatives apparently pretending to hold a news conference at the official residence sparked an uproar.

Kishida&nbsp;told reporters that Shotaro&nbsp;Kishida&nbsp;would step down as his secretary from Thursday, saying the change was due to "inappropriate" behaviour at the official residence.

A weekly magazine last week published photos of the younger&nbsp;Kishida&nbsp;and relatives apparently pretending to hold a news conference at the podium where the prime minister usually stands.

"His behaviour in a public space was inappropriate for someone who is in an official position as a political aide. I've decided to replace him for accountability,"&nbsp;Kishida&nbsp;said.

The revelations come at an inopportune time for&nbsp;Kishida, who had gained a boost in popularity with the recent Group of Seven (G7) summit in Hiroshima and was widely criticised by the opposition.

Seiji Osaka, a senior lawmaker with Japan's largest opposition party, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, said the dismissal should have come earlier, according to Kyodo news agency.

"This is too late. I suspect (Kishida) appointed someone who is not capable (of being the) prime minister's aide to the post," Osaka was quoted as saying.

The world's two largest economies, which are rivals when it comes to military influence and diplomacy, are planning to land astronauts on the moon. China hopes to do it before 2030, whereas the US claims to put astronauts back on the lunar surface by the end of 2025.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Jesse Morehouse, the deputy director of strategy, plans, and policy at US Space Command stated that Russian aggression and China's goal of becoming the dominant space power by mid-century have left the US with "no choice" but to prepare for orbital fights.

Last week, Brig Gen Morehouse was in London to discuss the combined space capabilities of the two countries at a conference called the Space Operations Summit 2023, The Guardian reported.&nbsp;

While speaking at a press conference, he told reporters that the US embassy that America was "ready to fight tonight in space if we had to".&nbsp;

<h2>'We are ready to fight'&nbsp;</h2>

As quoted, he said, "If someone was to threaten the United States of America, or any of our interests, including those of our allies and partners with whom we have treaties of mutual defence support, we are ready to fight tonight."&nbsp;

To tackle such threat, there are anti-satellite capabilities and four countries - China, the US, India and Russia - have even tested it by destroying their own satellites with missiles from the ground.&nbsp;

But the US unilaterally banned such action last year because of issues regarding debris, and decades-long risk to other satellites.

Some nations, including the Netherlands, Austria and Italy, have followed America's lead and pledged not to perform "destructive" anti-satellite (ASAT) tests.&nbsp;

In 2021, Russia shot down one of its own satellites and the explosion showered its orbit with more than 1,500 trackable fragments.&nbsp;

Weighing in, Morehouse said recently that "when you create that debris cloud and it lingers on orbit for decades, it's almost like detonating a nuclear weapon in your own backyard. You pay the price too".&nbsp;

As reported, Morehouse said on Thursday the US would continue to develop anti-satellite technologies "not because we want to fight tonight, but because that’s the best way to deter conflict from happening". He further added that it would do so "without engaging in irresponsible tests".&nbsp;

Military official says US 'ready to fight in space' against threats posed by 'provocative' nations

Russia said on Tuesday (May 30) that it had intercepted all eight of the Ukrainian drones aimed at Moscow and accused Kyiv of a "terrorist attack". There were no reports of deaths, but authorities said that the early morning attack injured two people, one of whom was hospitalised.&nbsp;

Ukrainian presidential aide Mykhailo Podolyak denied Kyiv's involvement in the attack but Moscow has launched a probe into the incident as the Russian forensic experts were seen in the capital, collecting what appears to be fragments of a drone. &nbsp;

The Kremlin said there was "no threat at the moment" to residents, some of whom had evacuated briefly. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, "Thank God, there were no victims and there is no threat at the moment for residents of Moscow and the Moscow region."&nbsp;

Kremlin also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was informed in "real-time". Peskov said, "The president's working day started very early. He was receiving information in real-time from the defence ministry, the mayor of Moscow, the governor of the Moscow region and the emergencies ministry."&nbsp;

The drone attack on Moscow is rare — a foreshadowing of a possible escalation of the ongoing war as the Kremlin said that the unprecedented drone attack was a "response" by Kyiv to a recent Russian hit in Ukraine.&nbsp;

Peskov said, "It is completely clear that we are talking about response acts by the Kyiv regime to very effective strikes on a command centre (in Ukraine)."&nbsp;

Lawmaker Maxim Ivanov called it the most serious assault on Moscow since the Nazis, saying no citizen could now avoid "the new reality".&nbsp;

He said, "You will either defeat the enemy as a single fist with our Motherland, or the indelible shame of cowardice, collaboration and betrayal will engulf your family."&nbsp;

Notably, two drones recently exploded over the Kremlin in an attack Russia also blamed on Kyiv and said was aimed at Putin.&nbsp;

<h2>Drone strike on Kyiv</h2>

The drone attack on Moscow came amid Russia's intensified aggression as at least one person was killed Monday night in a "massive attack" by drones on the Ukrainian capital. It was one such attack carried out recently.&nbsp;

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram that rescuers evacuated three injured people and 20 others from a multi-storey building in a southern area of Kyiv after falling debris caused a fire.&nbsp;

"One person died, three were injured. The two upper floors are destroyed, there may be people under the rubble," Klitschko said.

The military administration of the Ukrainian capital said that the air defence forces destroyed more than 20 drones in Russia-launched overnight air attacks on Kyiv.&nbsp;

Ukraine's chief diplomatic adviser, Ihor Zhovkva, said that the country is not interested in a ceasefire that locks in Russian territorial gains and instead wants the fulfilment of its peace plan, which calls for the complete evacuation of Russian soldiers.

Moscow drone attack: Russia blames Ukraine, calls it 'terrorist attack'

The Indian government reportedly informed the Delhi high court that the accidental firing of a BrahMos combat missile into Pakistan last year cost the state exchequer Rs 240 million. On Monday, it also justified the decision of dismissing three Indian Air Force (IAF) officers for gross negligence, Hindustan Times reported.&nbsp;

The government has filed an affidavit regarding Wing Commander Abhinav Sharma's removal from the Indian Air Force as a result of the error. Sharma was one of three IAF officers that were fired.&nbsp;

The centre said that the firing harmed the country's ties with its neighbour. Earlier this year in March, the Union government told the Delhi high court that the misfired BrahMos combat missile could have led to a warlike situation between the two countries.&nbsp;

As quoted by the report, the Union government said, "Considering the sensitive nature of the subject matter having widespread ramifications for the security of the State, a conscious and considered decision was taken in good faith to terminate the service of the petitioner under the President's pleasure clause."

"Such a decision has been taken in the Indian Air Force after 23 years as facts and circumstances of the case warranted such action," it added.&nbsp;

The report mentioned that, in the affidavit, the Centre said that the trial of three officers by a court martial was "inexpedient".&nbsp;

It further added "the international community was interested to know the important practical details regarding the firing of missile".&nbsp;

Wing Commander Sharma, the petitioner, challenged the termination order issued against him under Section 18 of the Air Force Act of 1950. He was assigned as an engineering officer when the incident occurred.&nbsp;

The Centre argued that&nbsp;the decision of&nbsp;termination&nbsp;was objective and&nbsp;just. It added that it was absolutely necessary because of the unusual nature of the subject matter.&nbsp;

It stated that, in addition to posing a possible hazard to any airborne/ground object/personnel and inflicting damage to the IAF and the nation's prestige, the&nbsp;firing cost the government money.

The reply mentioned, "It is indeed ironic that the petitioner has attempted to shift his blame to other officers knowing fully well that his failures contributed significantly to the launch of the missile."&nbsp;

The unintentional firing occurred on March 9, 2022, and Pakistan registered a protest with India the next day. According to the defence ministry, the missile was fired unintentionally.&nbsp;

The ministry stated at the time that it was caused by a technical malfunction during standard missile maintenance, and that the government took the event seriously.&nbsp;
