Moscow said Monday that it had detained a Russian citizen and former US consulate employee in Vladivostok for allegedly passing information about the Ukraine conflict to American diplomats.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) said in a statement it had "suppressed the illegal activities of Robert Robertovich Shonov", accusing him of being an informant for the US embassy in Moscow.

The announcement is the latest in a series of diplomatic spats building pressure on strained ties between Moscow and Washington, particularly over the conflict in Ukraine.

The FSB said Shonov had begun handing information to US diplomats in September last year about the conflict and mobilisation, an unpopular move in Russia that saw an exodus of military-aged men.

It added that Shonov had been tasked with gauging protest sentiment in Russia's regions ahead of presidential elections scheduled for next year.

The FSB said that Shonov had reported to two diplomats in the political department in the US embassy in Moscow, Jeffrey Silin and David Bernstein, and that it planned to question the men.

Diplomatic tensions between Russia and Western countries, particularly the United States, have been deteriorating for years and both sides have ordered the other to cut staff numbers at diplomatic facilities, hampering their functions.

Russia says detained US embassy 'informant' on Ukraine

Libyan Prime Minister suspended Foreign Minister Najla al-Mangoush on Sunday (August 27) in the aftermath of her Israeli counterpart announcing that he had held talks with her last week in Rome — an informal meeting. The prime minister also referred her for an investigation.

Al-Mangoush's meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen sparked widespread protests because Libya does not recognise it and backs the Palestinian cause.

Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah said on Sunday evening in an official decision posted on Facebook that al-Mangoush has been "temporarily suspended" and will be subject to an "administrative investigation" by a commission chaired by the justice minister.

The Libyan foreign ministry described it as a "chance and unofficial encounter" and the foreign ministry said that Mangoush had "refused to meet with any party" representing Israel. But despite that, the news of the meeting had already led to street protests in several Libyan cities.

"What happened in Rome was a chance and unofficial encounter, during a meeting with his Italian counterpart, which did not involve any discussion, agreement or consultation," the ministry said in a statement.

As per the statement, the minister had reiterated "in a clear and unambiguous manner Libya's position regarding the Palestinian cause".

Protests mar Libya, foreign minister suspended after meeting with Israeli counterpart

The French education minister said on Sunday (August 27) that the nation will ban children from wearing the abaya, which is the loose-fitting, full-length robes worn by some Muslim women, in state-run schools. The announcement was made just ahead of the back-to-school season.

Education Minister Gabriel Attal told TF1 television that it will no longer be "possible to wear an abaya at school". He added that he would give "clear rules at the national level" to school heads ahead of the return to classes nationwide from September 4.

Women have long been banned from wearing the Islamic headscarf and this decision came after months of debate over the wearing of abayas in French schools.

France has enforced a strict ban on religious signs in state schools since 19th-century laws removed any traditional Catholic influence from public education. However, the nation has struggled to update guidelines to deal with the Muslim minority.

"Secularism means the freedom to emancipate oneself through school," Attal said, further adding that the abaya is "a religious gesture, aimed at testing the resistance of the republic toward the secular sanctuary that school must constitute".

Many are familiar with the headscarves, but the abaya is different. It is a long, baggy garment worn to comply with Islamic beliefs on modest dressing. It has occupied a grey area and has faced no outright ban until now.

The French education ministry had already issued a circular on the issue in November last year, calling the abaya as one of a group of items of clothing whose wearing could be banned if they were "worn in a manner as to openly display a religious affiliation". Scientists believe that sea creatures could lead investigators to the wreck of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which went missing in March 2014, becoming one of Malaysia's deadliest aviation incidents. All 239 people on board were presumed dead in the still-continuing aviation mystery.

Authorities did not find any trace of the wreck, besides the few bits of debris that washed up on an island in the Indian Ocean.

The airliner, which was headed from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members.

In January 2017, the official search for the missing jet was suspended and a private six-month search conducted a year later also turned up nothing.

A new study suggests that barnacles found on a piece of plane debris might hold the key to discovering what happened to MH370.

Barnacles are a type of arthropod constituting the subclass Cirripedia in the subphylum Crustacea and are related to crabs and lobsters.

Research published in AGU Advances found that MH370 might have drifted "far south" of where previous models have speculated. The study analysed barnacles found on a flaperon, which is the moving part of a wing. It is believed to be from the missing aircraft.

A year after the disappearance, the aeroplane component washed up on the French island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean.

As the water temperature changes, the chemistry of the barnacle's shells changes every day. The location of the crustacean on any given day can then be ascertained using this information.

As quoted by media outlets, Dr Gregor Herbert, Associate Professor from the University of South Florida, said: "The [debris] was covered in barnacles and as soon as I saw that, I immediately began sending emails to the search investigators because I knew the geochemistry of their shells could provide clues to the crash location."

"Sadly, the largest and oldest barnacles have not yet been made available for research, but with this study, we've proven this method can be applied to a barnacle that colonised on the debris shortly after the crash to reconstruct a complete drift path back to the crash origin," he said.

Dr Herbert added: "No one can do any work on the larger barnacles until the French change their minds, but our publication lays a clear pathway for what needs to be done and why it should work."

Nassar Al-Qattan, a recent USF geochemistry doctoral graduate who helped analyse the geochemistry of the barnacles, said: "Knowing the tragic story behind the mystery motivated everyone involved in this project to get the data and have this work published."

What happened to MH370?

No one knows what exactly happened, and there are several conspiracy theories.

The flight MH370 took off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia on 8 March 2014 and was flying towards its planned destination, Beijing Capital International Airport in China.

The crew last communicated with air traffic control (ATC) around 38 minutes after takeoff when the flight was over the South China Sea.

After that, the aircraft was lost from ATC radar screens, however, it was tracked by military radar for another hour. The aircraft was found deviating westwards from its planned flight path.

Princess Charlene of Monaco is living in Switzerland and reports have said that she is only seeing her husband, Prince Albert, "by appointment". Reports have also mentioned that Albert resides in Monaco with eight-year-old twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.

This is in addition to the rumours that their marriage has been unhappy and it is just ceremonial. Reports carried out by German and French media suggest that they only occasionally meet outside of formal or ceremonial occasions.

It is said that Albert, 65, and Charlene, 45, make an effort to maintain their loving couple persona in public. Recently, they were last seen together on July 29, when they were arm in arm at a Red Cross ball in Monaco, but they didn't seem to be comfortable with one another.

A source close to the couple told French newspaper Voici that Charlene and Albert are simply a "ceremonial couple". Another report in Bild, a German tabloid, quoted an anonymous source as saying: "They take turns looking after the children."

Surrenders! Arrested! Released! Donald Trump slams 'travesty of justice' after Georgia arrest

Pakistan finally got time to congratulate India for its historic Chandrayaan-3 Mission after the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully landed a rover on the south pole of the Moon, becoming the first nation to do so.

During a weekly press briefing on Friday (August 25), Pakistan MoFA said: "India getting to the Moon is a big achievement. We congratulate Indian scientists on achieving this milestone."

The successful landing on the south pole of the Moon emerged as a paradigm shift in the area of space exploration, not only for India but also for the entire world. India, along with the whole world, cheered when the unmanned Chandrayaan-3 touched down, just a few days after a Russian probe crashed in the same region.

World leaders congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was watching it live virtually from South Africa, where he was attending the BRICS Summit. He was seen smiling broadly as he announced the mission's success as a triumph that extended beyond his country's borders.

PM Modi said: "On this joyous occasion I would like to address the people of the world. India's successful Moon mission is not just India's alone. This success belongs to all of humanity."

However, it appears that India's neighbours were not so happy as it took two days for Pakistan to wish the Indian space agency, while China is still completely silent.

ISRO shares video of rover rolling onto the Moon's surface

Pragyan rover exited the spacecraft and rolled out on the lunar surface on Thursday (August 24) to begin exploring the surface of the lunar south pole and conducting experiments.

ISRO Chief S Somanath said on Thursday that exploring the Moon's south pole offered potential discoveries of water and much scientific data. The Moon's rugged south pole is coveted because of its water ice, which is believed to be capable of providing fuel, oxygen, and drinking water for future missions, but its rough terrain makes landing challenging.

Surrogacy and Breastfeeding: Key Significant Points

Surrogacy and breastfeeding can hold significant emotional and health-related implications for both the surrogate and intended parents.

Here are some of the key points of significance:

Breastfeeding is a unique bonding experience between a mother and her baby.

Breast milk provides essential nutrients and antibodies that support a baby’s growth and immune system.

Involving the surrogate mother in breastfeeding can contribute to a stronger emotional connection between her and the baby, potentially enhancing the sense of fulfilment for her.

Breastfeeding can be a sensitive topic in surrogacy arrangements. It’s important for all parties involved to have open discussions.

Both intended parents and surrogates should feel empowered to make choices that align with their values, comfort levels, and health considerations.

Huawei Technologies Co is building a collection of secret semiconductor-fabrication facilities across China to let the company skirt U.S. sanctions, a Washington-based semiconductor association has warned, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday.

The Chinese tech giant moved into chip production last year and is receiving an estimated $30 billion in state funding from the government, the Semiconductor Industry Association said, adding that Huawei has acquired at least two existing plants and is building three others.

The US Commerce Department had added Huawei to its export control list in 2019 over security concerns. The company denies being a security risk.

If Huawei is constructing facilities under the names of other companies as the Semiconductor Industry Association says, then it might be able to circumvent U.S. government restrictions to indirectly purchase American chip-making equipment, according to the Bloomberg report.

Huawei and the Semiconductor Industry Association did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

Huawei has been placed on a trade blacklist in the United States, restricting most suppliers from shipping goods and technology to the company unless they were granted licenses. Officials have continued to tighten the controls to cut off the company's ability to buy or design the semiconductor chips that power most of its products.
