New Delhi: India has launched a strong attack on Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, slamming Islamabad for weaponising Afghanistan’s landlocked status and carrying out deadly airstrikes that have killed hundreds of civilians. Speaking at the UNSC, India’s Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish said Pakistan’s denial of transit access for Afghan traders amounted to “unprecedented ‘trade and transit terrorism’”. He said India was issuing hundreds of gratis long-term business visas to help affected Afghan traders. “This cynical closure of access for this landlocked country is in total violation of UN declarations on Land Locked Developing Countries and a clear weaponisation of their trade and transit vulnerabilities,” the ambassador said.He called on the international community to condemn what he described as blatant violations of WTO norms, the UN Charter and international law. Ambassador Harish sharply criticised Pakistan’s military actions in Afghanistan, citing UNAMA reports of heavy civilian casualties. “Pakistan’s campaign of military airstrikes against Afghanistan is causing huge civilian casualties and sufferings to the Afghan people,” he said. New Delhi: A Palau-flagged tanker suspected of attempting to breach the US naval blockade was disabled by American forces off the coast of Oman on Monday, prompting a rescue operation for its 24 Indian crew members.“US forces disabled an unladen oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, June 8, after the vessel violated the ongoing blockade against Iran by attempting to sail to an Iranian port,” said a US statement. The vessel, identified as MT Marivax (also referred to as Marivex), was in an unladen state when it was fired upon, according to sources familiar with the incident. Omani authorities assisted in the swift evacuation of all crew, who are reported safe. Indian officials confirmed that the seafarers had been rescued with Omani support. Opesh Kumar Sharma, Director in the Shipping Division of India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, said preliminary reports indicated a fire aboard the vessel around 1.30 pm. “All Indian seafarers are presently safe,” he stated. “We are coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, our Indian missions abroad, the Indian Navy and the Ministry of Defence to ensure their safety.” The incident unfolded after the tanker made multiple attempts to evade the US blockade in recent days. On three previous occasions, the vessel reportedly turned away after receiving repeated warnings from US naval forces. On 7 June, it made a fourth attempt, this time navigating through Omani territorial waters in what officials described as a deliberate effort to run the blockade. Its pattern of behaviour suggested intentions that were “not above board”, according to sources. The ship is understood to be blacklisted and subject to US OFAC sanctions. It is not Indian-owned, despite its crew being entirely composed of Indian nationals. Reports from the scene indicated that the vessel came under attack off the Omani coast, with damage sustained to lifeboats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to undertake a significant three-nation Indo-Pacific tour in July, visiting Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia. The trip focuses on India's deepening strategic, economic and defence ties in the region with which Delhi has major stake-holdership. In Indonesia the Indian PM will hold talks with President Prabowo Subianto. Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, currently in Delhi for the 8th India-Indonesia Joint Commission Meeting, has been preparing the ground for the visit. Discussions in the Indian capital have focused on enhancing connectivity, maritime security and defence cooperation under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Bilateral trade between the two Asian giants reached $25 billion last year, with both sides eyeing greater collaboration in supply chains, health, tourism and joint military exercises. India and Indonesia are strengthening defence cooperation as part of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with maritime security and joint exercises at the forefront of bilateral ties. At Shangri La dialogue, India’s Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh has confirmed that talks on BrahMos supersonic cruise missile deal with Indonesia which he said “are in their final stages.” PM Modi's visit to New Zealand, comes months after the conclusion of negotiations for a bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The FTA aims to boost market access for goods and services, promote investment, and facilitate mobility for professionals, students and MSMEs. A major community event in Auckland, potentially drawing 15,000-20,000 members of the Indian diaspora, is being planned. In Australia, focus will be on further firming up ties, as momentum builds up. Expectations are high for announcements on uranium imports and deeper defence collaboration. Australia has long been a potential supplier of uranium for India's civilian nuclear (energy) programme under safeguards. In a recent interview with WION's Sidhant Sibal, Australian High Commissioner Philip Green signalled "new landmarks" in the relationship, pointing to progress towards a major new defence agreement. He described the partnership as advancing rapidly, with high-level visits underscoring shared interests in maritime security and the Quad framework. Australian foreign minister Penny Wong, and Defence minister Richard Marles were in India in the last 15 days for Quad foreign ministers meet and defence dialogue. The 3 nation tour is seen as a strategic assertion of India's Indo-Pacific vision, balancing economic opportunities with security imperatives. With diaspora engagement a key theme, especially in New Zealand and Australia, Indian PM Modi's visits are expected to yield tangible outcomes in trade, energy security and defence understandings.

Singapore has instructed YouTube, Facebook and X to block access to 14 online posts that authorities say promote xenophobic narratives targeting the Indian community and seek to undermine the city-state’s racial harmony. The Singapore Police Force issued Disabling Directions under the Online Criminal Harms Act 2023, requiring the platforms to take “all reasonable steps” to prevent users in Singapore from viewing the material. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced the action on Saturday. The content, which first appeared in Chinese-language online spaces last month, portrayed Singapore’s multiracial policies as a mere façade designed to appeal to Western values. It claimed the country’s stability derived not from multiculturalism but from its ethnic Chinese majority, which makes up about 75% of the 6 million population. Posts alleged that growing numbers of ethnic Indian politicians would favour Indian immigrants and warned of a supposed “threat” from an expanding Indian community.Selective images and footage were used to reinforce claims of overcrowding, including weekend scenes of migrant workers in Little India and devotees at a religious festival on Pagoda Street. Derogatory language compared the rising presence of Indians to a “concentration of curry”.Investigations found the material likely originated from a China-based platform before spreading elsewhere. MHA described the efforts as “malicious” attempts to sow discord, including against Indian migrant workers in construction and other sectors who “contribute to Singapore’s growth and development”. Authorities assessed the posts as likely breaching Section 298A of the Penal Code, which criminalises acts that promote enmity between racial groups or prejudice racial harmony.Singapore’s Indian community, including both citizens and foreign workers, forms roughly 9% of the population alongside a similar proportion of Malays, according to reports. MHA stressed that foreign-sourced attempts to exploit ethnic fault lines were “doubly unacceptable”. It urged citizens to reject nativism and xenophobia and to remain vigilant online. The Online Criminal Harms Act, which came into force in 2023, equips authorities to act rapidly against online content deemed harmful to social cohesion. Saturday’s move is the latest example of Singapore’s willingness to intervene decisively when it perceives threats to its racial compact.

Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing, who was on India visit, has signalled a push for security cooperation with India, emphasising intelligence-sharing to tackle drug trafficking and insurgencies along their porous 1,600km border, while expressing optimism about restarting stalled connectivity projects and deepening IT collaboration. In an interview to India's state broadcaster DD India, the Myanmar leader acknowledged that armed groups have long exploited the rugged, forested frontier for drug production to finance conflicts rooted in ethnic and political demands.Production was brought under control around 2020 but surged again after the 2021 political upheaval. “We are now cracking down on this severely and taking strict legal actions,” he said, adding that intelligence-sharing with India and arrests on both sides have already helped bring the border situation under “reasonable control”. This was a rare interview by Myanmar's President, during which he stressed that lasting success requires parallel progress on political stability. Myanmar is “transitioning toward democracy”, he said, and resolving ethnic grievances through systematic negotiations would curb insurgencies and, in turn, constrain drug production.
