According to the official statement, a profit of 2.09 trillion Roubles was earned by the energy company in comparison to 135 billion Roubles in 2020. When it comes to revenue, it rose 62 per cent to 10.2 trillion Roubles which is also a record, and it accounts for five per cent of Moscow’s trade.

However, it is unlikely that the growth will be uniform in 2022 because of the sanctions imposed by a number of countries in response to the aggression in Ukraine. Europe is the main consumer for Russian oil and gas, but the sanctions mean that the Russian economy can take a hit this year.

Earlier, Gazprom decides to stop deliveries to Bulgaria and Poland as they said that they will only be taking payment in Rubles from now on.

Although the United Nations have termed this move ‘blackmail’ in response to the sanctions, Russia is adamant that they will stop supplies to any nation not willing to pay them in Roubles and this can be a big problem for the European Union.

The study says that with the water levels going up and the temperatures soaring, the level of oxygen in the ocean waters have gone down and this has resulted in the water taking in carbon dioxide from the air.

Thus, the water levels are going up but with not enough oxygen, the environment has become hostile for a number of aquatic animals and the study states that the depletion of oxygen is almost four times of that in 1960s. This has majorly impacted the growth and development of aquatic life.

The study, which was published in science, compared the current situation to the “great dying” – an event which occurred 250 million years ago resulting in the death of 96 per cent of marine creatures.

“Even if the magnitude of species loss is not the same level as this, the mechanism of the species loss would be the same,” said Justin Penn, a climate scientist at Princeton University.

“The future of life in the oceans rests strongly on what we decide to do with greenhouse gases today. There are two vastly different oceans we could be seeing, one devoid of a lot of life we see today, depending on what we see with CO2 emissions moving forward,” he was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

Italy’s constitutional court has ruled that the practice of children taking only the father’s surname is ‘discriminatory and harmful to their identity’ and it further instructed that Italian children will be given the surname of both parents with the decision to change it lying with the family in the future.

In a statement released by the court, it said that the goal of this ruling is to provide both parents with equal power in the decision and this will be the norm unless there is a prior request.

The ruling will still have to be approved by the Italian government but family minister, Elena Bonetti, has said that the government will be supporting the parliament in implementing this change.

"There has been no significant rainfall since February 25. In between, on April 14 and April 21, there were dust storms in Rajasthan and Haryana but there was no significant rain. Hence the long dry spell has resulted in high temperatures," senior IMD scientist R.K. Jenamani told the media.

However, there was some good news as Jenamani said that IMD believes that the northwest and central India can receive rainfall on May 2 due to a western disturbance. IMD also said that the Western Himalayan Region can also receive isolated/scattered rainfall between May 2 and May 4.

An official from a pro-Russian committee has now told news agency RIA that the region will be using Russian ruble as their official currency from May 1. There has been a rise in the number of these committees who have taken over the administration of the region in the aftermath of the invasion.

Kirill Stremousov, who is part of the pro-Russian committee in Kherson, said that the transition will take around four months, but it will be put into circulation in the region with immediate effect.
