"It is not imposed on anyone, nor is it targeted at any third party. There is no intention at all to establish a military base," Wang told a news conference according to an AFP report.

The leaked document created tensions in Australia – a nation which is quite close to the Solomon Islands – but Wang said that the fears were completely baseless at the moment.

"China's cooperation with Pacific Island countries does not target any country and should not be interfered or disrupted by any other country," he added in the press conference.

The foreign minister also took a shot on Australia for saying the islands were 'in their backyard'.

"They are not the backyard of anyone. All the Pacific Island countries are entitled to make their own choice instead of being just mere followers of others," the foreign minister said through a translator.

"Any smears and attacks on the normal security cooperation between China and Solomon Islands are not above the board and any such disruption will not get anywhere," he concluded.

The VMware shareholders will be given a choice between $142.50 in cash for each of their shares or 0.2520 shares of Broadcom common stock in exchange of the existing ones. There is also some rebranding expected after the proposed takeover and the company will take over $8 billion of debt.

Broadcom have already started preparation for funding the massive acquisition by speaking to a consortium of banks. The banks will be providing a fully committed debt financing of $32 billion.

According to a report on Associated Press, 12 per cent of the company will still stay with VMWare shareholders while the deal will include 88 per cent for Broadcom. The COVID-19 pandemic brought the world to a standstill but with a huge amount of the world’s population getting vaccinated, it looks like the journey towards normalcy has already started. But there seems to be a new problem plaguing a number of countries as the number of monkeypox cases are going up with every passing day. The total number of cases in the United Kingdom has already gone up to 78 with seven more cases on Wednesday but scientists believe that the monkeypox virus has been circulating unsuspected in multiple nations for quite some now.

The UK has reported the highest number of cases in the world till now with around 20-25 countries getting affected in the last month alone. According to the official data, around 200 cases have been detected around the world and although it has existed in parts of Africa in the past, this is the first outbreak of the monkeypox virus outside the continent.

Professor David Heymann, who chairs a World Health Organization expert group on infectious threats to global health, believes that the virus has been present in the UK for the last two to three years, but the impact was not detected earlier.

Chief medical adviser Susan Hopkins said that the authorities are trying to limit the spread by contact tracing – the process the UK used to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is the fourth meeting between the countries in two years and the tone for this year’s meeting has already been set with the launch of the Indo-Pacific Economic Forum. The framework will begin with 13 members who account for a combined 40 per cent of the world gross domestic product.

The members who will be a part of the Indo-Pacific Economic Forum are the United States, Japan, India, South Korea, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, New Zealand and Brunei. This is being seen as an alternative to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the world's largest trade bloc established earlier by China.

China has not taken the developments well and they have criticized the new framework while calling it a ‘closed group’. China was also quite critical of a possible agreement between the Quad members to use satellites for surveillance in the contested waters of the South China Sea to stop illegal fishing.
