United Kingdom's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is facing criticism online for misusing the feature of alt text on Twitter.

Sunak shared a four-picture photo grid on Wednesday which showed cabinet members having a meeting. When a user clicks the images, each of them expands to reveal various things that the government claims to have done.

“We are working day-in and day-out to grow the economy,” wrote Sunak in the caption of the social media post. The alt text field, in which the description is added to make the blind users understand what is present in the image, simply read: “We're growing the economy”.

To add new heights to the skyscraper-studded Dubai, Canadian entrepreneur Michael Henderson has proposed a $5 billion real estate project which aims at creating a moon-like resort.

Henderson has envisioned building the moon's 900-foot replica atop a 100-foot building present in Dubai, a city which already boasts of the world’s tallest building as well as other architectural wonders.

Henderson believes that his ambitious project, which has been named MOON and will be funded by Moon World Resorts Inc, is not that far-fetched.

“We have the biggest ‘brand’ in the world,” said Henderson, while speaking to The Associated Press, as he alluded that the moon itself was his brand. “Eight billion people know our brand, and we haven’t even started yet,” he added.

The resort will have a 4,000-room hotel as well as an arena capable of hosting 10,000 people and a “lunar colony” where people would be provided with the experience of walking on the moon.
Some have even placed the resort at the Dubai Pearl, which is a long-dormant project and is now facing destruction near the man-made Palm Jumeirah archipelago and its unfinished sister, the Palm Jebel Ali.

The Pearl and the Palm Jebel Ali are the two “white elephant” projects which have been left unfinished since the 2009 financial crisis that rocked the country and forced United Arab Emirates' Abu Dhabi to bail out Dubai with $20 billion.

The Quad group leaders – Australia, India, Japan and the United States – took a thinly veiled swipe at China's behaviour at their meeting in Hiroshima on Saturday, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.

United States President Joe Biden and the three other leaders of the Quad group did not take China's name, however, the South Asian nation emerged as a clear target in the language of their joint statement which called for “peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific maritime domain”.

“We strongly oppose destabilising or unilateral actions that seek to change the status quo by force or coercion,” the statement added.

The group's diplomatic language further referred to the economic tactics of China which the nation allegedly uses to gain leverage over poor nations. The Quad group also attacked China's military expansion in the Pacific.

“We express serious concern at the militarisation of disputed features, the dangerous use of coastguard and maritime militia vessels, and efforts to disrupt other countries’ offshore resource exploitation activities,” the statement stated, as it clearly referred to the construction of bases by China on former offshore reefs and the harassment faced by non-Chinese ships in the disputed waters.

The group, in their statement, emphasised on the Quad’s support for improvements in infrastructure across the vast Asia-Pacific region while stating, in what appeared as another alleged dig at China, that they wished to assist such investments but would “not impose unsustainable debt burdens” on the recipients of assistance.

The Quad leaders highlighted various projects and called the “urgent need to support quality undersea cable networks in the Indo-Pacific, which are key to global growth and prosperity”.

The leaders announced a partnership which is aimed at drawing on the expertise of their countries in the specialist maritime cable sector.

The leaders stated they were “deeply concerned” by repression in Myanmar, and further condemned “North Korea’s destabilising ballistic missile launches and pursuit of nuclear weapons in violation of multiple UN security council resolutions”.

Quad's statement mentioned ‘not an era of war’ comment which was made by Indian Prime Minister Modi when he had met Russia’s President Vladimir Putin in September 2022.

The joint statement stated, “In this context, today we express our deep concern over the war raging in Ukraine and mourn its terrible and tragic humanitarian consequences. We will continue to render humanitarian assistance to Ukraine for its recovery. Conscious that ours must not be an era of war, we remain committed to dialogue and diplomacy."

WATCH | Why was Quad called off? However, the meeting was cancelled after Biden changed his schedule citing his need to return to Washington from Japan on Sunday for negotiating the US debt ceiling with Republican opponents. PM Modi’s ‘not an era of war’ comment endorsed in joint statement Quad's statement mentioned ‘not an era of war’ comment which was made by Indian Prime Minister Modi when he had met Russia’s President Vladimir Putin in September 2022. The joint statement stated, “In this context, today we express our deep concern over the war raging in Ukraine and mourn its terrible and tragic humanitarian consequences. We recognise its serious impacts on the global economic system including on food, fuel and energy security and critical supply chains. We will continue to render humanitarian assistance to Ukraine for its recovery. Conscious that ours must not be an era of war, we remain committed to dialogue and diplomacy." The Wagner Group of mercenaries led the assault on the largely levelled Ukrainian city. Earlier, Wagner Group's leader Yevgeny Prigozhin said that the Ukrainians have been finally pushed out of the last built-up area inside the city.

The Russian ministry issued a statement on Telegram almost eight hours after Prigozhin's claims. However, Kyiv denied the claim made by Prigozhin and stated that the fight for Bakhmut is still going on.
Referring to the city through its Soviet-era name, the Russian ministry stated, “In the Artyomovsk tactical direction, the assault teams of the Wagner private military company with the support of artillery and aviation of the southern battlegroup have completed the liberation of the city of Artyomovsk.”

The state news agencies of Russia had cited Kremlin’s press service as stating President Vladimir Putin “congratulates the Wagner assault detachments, as well as all servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces units, who provided them with the necessary support and flank protection, on the completion of the operation to liberate Artyomovsk.”

A White House official on Friday said that "steady progress" has been made in talks over increasing the United States debt ceiling at a time when President Joe Biden is in Japan to attend the G7 summit.

The US government is hoping to hit the legal borrowing limit earliest by June 1, increasing the chances of the largest economy in the world to default on debt repayments for the first time in history.

A default on the $31.8 trillion debt of the United States would unleash turmoil for global markets if no agreement is finalised between Republicans and Democrats, who are asking for deep spending cuts before there is an increase in the debt limit.

Biden "requested and received an update this morning from his designated negotiating team" informing him that "steady progress is being made", the official stated.

"The president directed his team to continue pressing forward for a bipartisan agreement," the official added. "He remains confident that Congress will take necessary action to avoid default,” he further stated.

"I think we have the structure now and everybody's working hard,” he added.
