People facing trouble in sleeping or having a bad sleeping cycle or any other signs of insomnia, may be at an increased risk for stroke, claimed a new study.

According to the study, a person facing more symptoms of insomnia is likely to be at a higher risk of stroke especially if they are under the age of 50.

The study observed 31,000 people who had no history of stroke for the last nine years. Stroke risk is generally higher in older adults who have multiple health issues, noted the study.

After other factors which increase the risk of stroke were controlled, researchers observed that people with five to eight symptoms of insomnia had a 51 per cent increased risk of stroke in comparison to those that did not have insomnia, as per a statement on the study which was published in the journal Neurology.

Meanwhile, people who suffered one to four symptoms had a 16 per cent increased risk of stroke in comparison to people with zero symptoms of insomnia, the study discovered.

“There are many therapies that can help people improve the quality of their sleep, so determining which sleep problems lead to an increased risk of stroke may allow for earlier treatments or b.ehavioural therapies for people who are having trouble sleeping and possibly reducing their risk of stroke later in life,” stated lead study author and epidemiologist Wendemi Sawadogo, who is also a researcher at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, in a statement.

In a new survey, the data collected revealed that a third of young men in Germany believe that using violence against women is acceptable. The study led to outrage among gender equality campaigners.

Children’s charity Plan International Germany had commissioned the survey and the regional newspaper Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung had published its findings.

In the study, which was carried out online, a group of 1,000 men and 1,000 women between the age of 18 to 35 from across the country were asked to submit their views on masculinity.

The study, which explored attitudes ranging from victim-blaming and double standards, found that 50 per cent of men stated they would not like to be in a relationship with a woman who previously had many sexual partners, while 20 per cent of the women in the survey also agreed with this fact.

The survey also stated that there was difference in the expectations of men and women within a relationship.

A Colombian military special forces official said that the rescued four children stayed alive on cassava flour in the dense Amazon jungle for 40 days after their plane crashed.

Spokesperson Pedro Arnulfo Sanchez Suarez said that the children ate “three kilogrammes (six pounds) of farina, a coarse cassava flour which is generally used by the Amazon region's indigenous tribes.”

“Days after the crash, they ate the farina which they had carried there… but they (eventually) ran out of food and decided to look for a place where they could stay alive. They were malnourished but fully conscious and lucid when we found them,” Suarez said.

“Their indigenous origins allowed them to acquire a certain immunity against diseases in the jungle and having knowledge of the jungle itself – knowing what to eat and what not to eat – as well as finding water kept them alive – which would not have been possible (if they) were not used to that type of hostile environment,” he added.

Meanwhile, speaking to AFP, the National Indigenous Organisation of Colombia's (ONIC) Luis Acosta said that the children also ate fruits, seeds, plants and roots which they were able to identify as edible because of their upbringing in the Amazon region.

Amarjeet, who is part of a Hindu organisation, dialled the accused, whose mobile number was displayed at the top of his profile picture, and asked him to change his profile picture in the wake of the present scenario in the state regarding Aurangzeb.

Apparently, the accused said that he was not in a good mood, however, he agreed to remove the profile picture. Later, Amarjeet noticed that the profile picture remained unchanged. A complaint was lodged by Amarjeet against him with the Vashi police station in Navi Mumbai.

The accused was detained and questioned by the police. He was later released. “Recently, communal clashes erupted in Ahmednagar, Sambhaji Nagar and Kolhapur over the issue of posting Aurangzeb’s photo. At such time, the accused posted a photo of Aurangzeb as his WhatsApp status, in order to disturb the communal harmony in Navi Mumbai, and also by trying to create discord between the two communities and to disturb the public peace. Hence an FIR has been registered against him,” a police officer stated. No arrests have been made in the case as of now. A post, which was shared on social media and allegedly glorified Aurangzeb and disrespected a Maratha national icon, triggered protests in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. People, who were part of a few right-wing outfits, called for a Kolhapur bandh in the city on June 7, which further escalated into violent protests. Honduras severed its diplomatic ties with Taiwan in March in favour of Beijing. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community.
A solar mission, which has been flying closer to the sun to uncover its secrets, went extremely near to the star's surface to make an important discovery.

The data collected by Parker Solar Probe has discovered the source of the solar wind, which is a stream of particles carrying energy that emerges from the corona, or the hot outer atmosphere of the sun, towards the Earth.

"It’s like seeing jets of water emanating from a showerhead through the blast of water hitting you in the face," said the researchers at the University of California-Berkley, in a release.

Solar wind originates from particular regions: study

In the latest study, which was published in the journal Nature, the team has explained the streams of high-energy particles in detail that appear similar to the supergranulation flows within coronal holes and hint at these being the specific regions where the “fast” solar wind originates.

Discovering the solar wind's source can help scientists make more improved predictions about space weather and solar storms which can affect Earth.

“Winds carry lots of information from the sun to Earth, so understanding the mechanism behind the sun’s wind is important for practical reasons on Earth,” stated study co-author James Drake.

“That’s going to affect our ability to understand how the sun releases energy and drives geomagnetic storms, which are a threat to our communication networks,” he added.

Coronal holes work like showerheads, reveal data

The data collected by the spacecraft revealed that the coronal holes work like showerheads, where jets appear on the surface of the sun in the form of bright spots, marking the points where the magnetic field passes in and out of the photosphere.

“The photosphere is covered by convection cells, like in a boiling pot of water, and the larger scale convection flow is called supergranulation,” stated lead study author Stuart D Bale, in a statement.

“Where these supergranulation cells meet and go downward, they drag the magnetic field in their path into this downward kind of funnel. The magnetic field becomes very intensified there because it’s just jammed. It’s kind of a scoop of the magnetic field going down into a drain. And the spatial separation of those little drains, those funnels, is what we’re seeing now with solar probe data,” he added.

“The big conclusion is that it’s magnetic reconnection within these funnel structures that’s providing the energy source of the fast solar wind,” Bale said.

“It doesn’t just come from everywhere in a coronal hole, it’s substructured within coronal holes to these supergranulation cells. It comes from these little bundles of magnetic energy that are associated with convection flows. Our results, we think, are strong evidence that it’s reconnection that’s doing that,” the researcher further stated.
