In a stunning discovery, the researchers recently found a 4,000-year-old lipstick which is believed to be the world's oldest known lipstick, or lip paint.&nbsp;

The lipstick was a small, ornate stone vial filled with a deep red paste and was found in southeastern Iran.

"We hypothesise a lip paint, rather than a solid lipstick because we have no certain idea about the original consistency or fluidity of the cosmetic substance," said Massimo Vidale, one of the lead researchers of the study in a statement, while speaking to ABC News.&nbsp;

<h2>Where did the researchers first discover this ancient lipstick?</h2>

The artefact, which belongs to the Bronze Age and dates back to between 1936 BC&nbsp;and 1687 BC, was first found in 2001 by researchers after ancient graveyards were unearthed in a flood, as per the study published in the journal Scientific Reports in February.

According to the study, the 2001 flooding in the Halil River Valley, Iran, revealed the Bronze Age Marhasi civilisation's ancient ruins. The civilisation is believed to have consisted of "powerful" people who thrived along with Mesopotamia.&nbsp;

The researchers informed that the ancient lipstick vial along with jewellery, weapons, and finely crafted ceramics was recovered by Iranian officials from the artefacts looted from the ruins and later sold in antique markets.&nbsp;

"A small chlorite vial, discovered among numerous artefacts looted and recovered in the Jiroft region of Kerman province contains a deep red cosmetic preparation that is likely a lip-colouring paint or paste," said researchers&nbsp;in the study.

The vial was kept as part of the Jiroft Archaeological Museum's collection in Iran before researchers from the Italian University of Padua, the Iranian University of Tehran, and the International Association for Mediterranean and Oriental Studies in Rome analysed it.&nbsp;

As per the study, the hand-carved stone vial is nearly two inches tall by three-quarters of an inch wide which is a little smaller than modern-day lipsticks.&nbsp;

The study's most notable finding is that the mineral components present in the lipstick artefact "[bear] a striking resemblance to the recipes of contemporary lipsticks," as per the researchers.

After scanning an electron microscope, the researchers found that the ingredients in the vial included hematite, darkened with manganite and braunite, and traces of galena and anglesite, mixed with vegetal waxes and other organic substances, as per Vidale, who further emphasised that if all of it is&nbsp;"combined it is exactly what one would expect in a modern lipstick."

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday (Mar 13) warned the West that the country was technically prepared for nuclear war and that if the United States sent its troops to Ukraine, it would lead to a significant escalation.

Speaking days ahead of the March 15-17 election in which Putin is certain to clinch victory and remain in power for the next six years, the Russian president said that the nuclear war scenario was not "rushing" up and as of now there is no need of using nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

"From a military-technical point of view, we are, of course, ready," said Putin, while speaking to Rossiya-1 television and news agency RIA when asked if the country was prepared for a nuclear war.

Putin added that the United States understood that if American troops were deployed on Russian territory or in Ukraine, Russia would see it as an intervention.

"(In the United States) there are enough specialists in the field of Russian-American relations and in the field of strategic restraint," said Putin.

"Therefore, I don't think that here everything is rushing to it (nuclear confrontation), but we are ready for this," he added.&nbsp;

<h2>'Weapons exist to be used'&nbsp;</h2>

Putin said that the Kremlin's nuclear doctrine clearly specifies&nbsp;the circumstances in which nuclear weapons may be used by the country.&nbsp;

"Weapons exist in order to use them. We have our own principles," said Putin.&nbsp;

Till now, Russia and the United States are the largest nuclear powers and have more than 90 per cent of the nuclear weapons present in the world under their control.

"Russia is ready for negotiations on Ukraine, but they should be based on reality - and not on cravings after the use of psychotropic drugs," said Putin.

Ukraine on Monday summoned the Vatican's envoy to Kyiv after Pope Francis suggested the country should consider raising "the white flag" against Russia, causing fury in Kyiv.

Ukraine has angrily rejected Pope Francis's suggestion to negotiate with Russia two years after its invasion, vowing "never" to surrender to Moscow.

"Due to the statements of Pope Francis the Apostolic Nuncio was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine," the ministry said on social media, using the term for a Vatican diplomat.

It added that the envoy, Visvaldas Kulbodas, was told Kyiv was "disappointed with the words of the Pontiff regarding the 'white flag'."

The ministry said the Catholic leader's words "encourage them (Russia) to further disregard international law."

"The head of the Holy See should have sent signals to the international community about the need to immediately unite forces to ensure the victory of good over evil, as well as appealed to the attacker, not the victim," it added.

The 87-year-old pontiff had said in an interview aired over the weekend: "I believe that the strongest are those who see the situation, think about the people and have the courage to raise the white flag and negotiate."

The comments fuelled anger in Kyiv -- not the first time the country has been angered by the Pope's comments during Russia's two-year invasion.

As the US is moving towards a possible ban on TikTok in the country, former president Donald Trump has now opposed it, saying such a step will only empower Facebook which in his view is the "enemy of the people".&nbsp;

He also noted that lots of kids 'will go crazy' without the Chinese-owned video sharing platform which is being seen as a national security threat for US due to alleged links to the Communist Party as well as concerns over user data sharing and privacy.

Trump, who himself in 2020 tried to ban TikTok, said that if the proposal is implemented, it will give unfair advantages to Facebook owner Meta.

"There's a lot of good and there's a lot of bad with TikTok, but the thing I don't like is that without TikTok, you're going to make Facebook bigger, and I consider Facebook to be an enemy of the people, along with a lot of the media," said Trump, while speaking to CNBC about the controversial app.&nbsp;

Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro has been selected to seek a third, successive term in July 28 elections, a senior ruling party official said Monday.

A vote by the PSUV party concluded that Maduro would be its presidential candidate, Diosdado Cabello, considered the number 2 in the ruling "Chavismo" movement, wrote on X.

Maduro, 61, has not made any announcement himself, but has been widely expected to seek reelection in a vote from which his main challenger has been precluded from running.

The president's re-election to a six-year term in 2018 -- widely considered fraudulent -- was not recognized by the United States and dozens of other countries, and was met with a string of sanctions.

Last week, Venezuela's electoral authority CNE announced elections will be held on July 28 in the South American country which is in dire economic straits.

That came after Maduro's government and the opposition agreed in Barbados last year to hold a free and fair vote in 2024 with international observers present.

The deal saw the United States ease sanctions against the oil-rich South American country, allowing US-based Chevron to resume limited crude extraction and leading to a prisoner swap.

The agreement required that opposition candidates be allowed to appeal court rulings disqualifying them from holding office.

Since then, however, the Supreme Court loyal to Maduro upheld a 15-year ban on opposition primary winner Maria Corina Machado and others, prompting Washington to consider reimposing sanctions.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his entire cabinet submitted their resignations to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya on Tuesday (Mar 12) as the north Indian state's coalition partners BJP and JJP headed for a split ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) later held&nbsp;a meeting&nbsp;and appointed its State BJP chief Nayab Singh&nbsp;Saini as legislature group leader.&nbsp;Saini also met Governor Dattatraya and staked claimed to form the new government and&nbsp;will take oath as the new chief minister&nbsp;at 5 pm.

Confirming Saini's appointment, State BJP MLA Krishan Lal Middha said, “Nayab Singh Saini to be next CM of Haryana. All people are now going to meet the Governor...nothing has been discussed about Deputy Chief Minister."

Saini, an influential figure in the OBC community, is BJP's Lok Sabha MP from Kurukshetra and was appointed the state party president in October last year.

There were reports that BJP also wanted to effect a change at the helm&nbsp;to ward off anti-incumbency&nbsp;ahead of the assembly elections. Besides, since Saini is seen as an OBC leader,&nbsp;the BJP wants to keep the caste equations right as the party heads for&nbsp;the general elections.

As per reports, the coalition partners BJP and JJP failed to reach any seat-sharing arrangements for the general elections. The local media also reported that Khattar is also likely to contest Lok Sabha elections from Karnal or Kurukshetra.

The ruling BJP&nbsp;has 41 seats in Haryana's 90-member assembly which makes it the single-largest party in the state.

A new government is likely to be formed by BJP with support from independent MLAs.&nbsp;BJP is claiming that besides its 41 MLAs, five independents will back it, just enough to cross the half-way mark of 45 seats.

The BJP became the ruling party in the state after entering a post-election alliance with leader Dushyant Chautala's Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), which currently has 10 MLAs. Talks for seat sharing in the Lok Sabha elections broke down after&nbsp;BJP did not yield to JJP’s demand for two out of 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The BJP was offering just one seat to JJP.

Amid the stalemate,&nbsp;Dushyant Chautala met BJP&nbsp;national president JP Nadda in capital New Delhi on Monday and reportedly told him JJP will not share seats with BJP in the Lok Sabha.

Earlier, independent MLA Nayan Pal Rawat said that he kind of got&nbsp;a hint that the alliance was falling&nbsp;apart.&nbsp;

"I met the chief minister yesterday. We have already extended our support to the Manohar Lal Khattar-led government. We also discussed the strategy for the Lok Sabha elections. I got the impression that the process of breaking the alliance with JJP has already started," Rawat was quoted as saying by ANI news agency.
