The terrorist threat level against Sweden remains high, security police said on Sunday.

The United States air safety regulator on Saturday (Jan 6) temporarily grounded certain&nbsp; Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft for safety checks&nbsp;a day after one of the airplane's window panels blew out over the state of Oregon post takeoff.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) "is requiring immediate inspections of certain Boeing 737 MAX 9 planes before they can return to flight," the agency said in a post on X.

The agency estimates that approximately 171 planes would be impacted globally and that each inspection would last four to eight hours.

"Safety will continue to drive our decision-making," the FAA statement said.

Alaska and United Airlines operate the most MAX 9 aircraft. Boeing has so far delivered around 218 737 MAX 9 planes, the company told news agency AFP.

US-based Alaska Airlines had on Friday (Jan 5) grounded all 65 of its Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft after a flight carrying 177 people was forced to make an emergency landing.

"Alaska Airlines flight 1282 from Portland, Oregon, to Ontario, California, experienced an incident this evening soon after departure," the company said.

On Saturday (Jan 6), the company said it had taken the "precautionary step of temporarily grounding our fleet of 65 Boeing Max-9 aircraft".

Alaska's Flight 1282 had departed from Portland International Airport on Friday evening. It returned safely around 20 minutes later after cabin crew reported a "pressurisation issue," according to the FAA.

"Following tonight's event on Flight 1282, we have decided to take the precautionary step of temporarily grounding our fleet of 65 Boeing 737-9 aircraft," Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci said in a statement on Friday.

"Each aircraft will be returned to service only after completion of full maintenance and safety inspections," he said.

<h2>Investigation underway</h2>

The National Transportation Safety Board, FAA and Alaska Airlines released a statement respectively saying that they were probing the rare incident.

"While this type of occurrence is rare," the airline said in a statement, "our flight crew was trained and prepared to safely manage the situation."

Boeing, in a post&nbsp;on its official X account, stated that it was collecting more information about the incident and that a technical team was available to assist the investigation.

North Korea on Sunday (Jan 7) conducted live-fire exercises on its western coast, Seoul's military said in a statement.

This was the third consecutive day of military drills conducted by Pyongyang near its disputed maritime border with the South.

Seoul's army said that North Korea had "conducted artillery fire with over 90 rounds north of Yeonpyeong island from 1600 to 1710 (0400 to 0510 GMT) today".&nbsp;

"We issue a stern warning that North Korea's repeated artillery fire within the prohibited hostile act zone poses a threat to the peace on the Korean Peninsula and escalates tensions and strongly urge that it be stopped immediately."

South Korea had warned the residents on the border island of Yeonpyeong to stay indoors.

"North Korean gunfire is currently being heard," stated a text message that was sent to all residents on Sunday afternoon, as per news agency AFP.

"Troops on Yeonpyeong Island are currently responding, but residents are advised to be careful of outdoor activities," the message said.

North Korea fired artillery rounds in the same vicinity on Friday and Saturday, close to the thinly populated islands of Yeonpyeong and Baengnyeong, which are located just south of the de facto sea boundary between the two sides.

"North Korean forces conducted artillery fire with over 60 rounds" northwest of Yeonpyeong Island on Saturday afternoon, Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

North Korea's shells, on Friday as well as on Saturday, landed in a buffer zone that was created under a 2018 deal aimed at reducing tensions between the two sides.

"North Korea, following its claim of the complete nullification of the 'September 19 Military Agreement', continues to threaten our citizens with ongoing artillery fire within the prohibited hostile act zone," the JCS said, referring to the 2018 deal.&nbsp;

"In response, our military will take appropriate measures," it said.

Meanwhile, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said that Shiv Sena would perform 'Maha Aarti' at the bank of the Godavari River in Nasik on the day of the Ram Temple consecration, which is on Jan 22.

"The birth anniversary of Bala Saheb falls on January 23 but since the consecration ceremony of the Ayodhya Ram Temple is going to be held on January 22, the Shiv Sena will perform a 'Maha Aarti' on that day at the bank of the Godavari River in Nasik," Thackeray said.

"We do not want to indulge in matter of who has got the invitation and who has not. When the conseration ceremony will be held in Ayodhya, at the same time, we will participate by offering prayers at the Kala Ram Temple in Nasik. On the same day, we will hold a party conference in Nasik itself," he added.

As per local media reports, a homeowner in the northern department of Yveline was forced to chop off a 20-year-old pine tree after he discovered massive colonies nesting inside it. The tree was 15 metres tall.

Pakistan's Senate on Friday (Jan 5) approved a resolution that seeks to delay the general elections which were originally scheduled for Feb 8.

The decision was taken citing security concerns and harsh weather conditions.&nbsp;

The resolution, presented by Senator Dilawar Khan, received the approval of a majority of lawmakers.

The move was however opposed by Pakistan Information Minister Murtaza Solangi and PML-N Senator Afnan Ullah, who were present in the House.

The resolution stated, "The Constitution upheld the right to vote for every citizen of Pakistan and the Election Commission of Pakistan was bound to conduct free and fair polls contingent upon inclusivity and ensuring the participation of all regional people."

Iran's security forces arrested 11 people over involvement in the twin bomb blasts that claimed the lives of around 100 people attending a memorial service for a slain military commander, the authorities said on Friday (Jan 5).

Iran's intelligence ministry released a statement saying that the security forces detained two people for helping the suicide bombers in Kerman.

Nine others, who were based in several parts of Iran, were also arrested over alleged links to the bombings.

"Nine other members of the terrorist group's support network and its associates were identified and arrested in six provinces," the ministry said in reference to IS.&nbsp;

The ministry, further revealing details about the nationality of the suicide bombers said that one of them was a Tajik citizen, whereas the identity of the other had yet to be determined. &nbsp;

The blasts were the deadliest attacks to rock the country since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Tehran's official news agency IRNA quoted Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi as saying that "according to forensic statistics, the number of martyrs from this incident has been announced as 84 so far".&nbsp;

North Korea fired over 60 artillery rounds on Saturday (Jan 6) near Yeonpyeong Island, said Seoul's army, a day after both the sides, North and South, conducted live-fire drills near their maritime border.

"North Korean forces conducted artillery fire with over 60 rounds" northwest of Yeonpyeong Island on Saturday afternoon, Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

North Korea's shells, on Friday as well as on Saturday, landed in a buffer zone that was created under a 2018 deal aimed at reducing tensions between the two sides.

The military accord fell apart in November last year after Pyongyang launched a spy satellite.

Seoul's military said Saturday that "the repeated artillery fire within the prohibited hostile act zone by North Korea poses a threat to the peace on the Korean Peninsula and escalates tensions".
