<p>The talks also focused on candidates for the seats in Jammu, whereas deliberations for Kashmir will take place in subsequent meetings.</p>

<p>Additionally, the discussions were also held on two to three seats in India's capital Delhi, however, another round of meetings is due to take place.</p>

<p>Candidates have been finalised for one seat in Goa, while another is yet to be finalised.</p>

<p>PM Modi has set a slogan of 'Crossing 400' in this year's Lok Sabha elections. The BJP aims to win more than 370 seats on its own.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The northern part of the rainforest was hardest hit, particularly the state of Roraima, home to the Yanomami Indigenous reserve.</p>

<p>"We have seen the Earth break... temperature records. Every year is the hottest year and this has a synergy with climate phenomena" such as droughts, said Alencar.</p>

<p>Drought devastated the Brazilian Amazon between June and November last year, stoking huge fires, reducing or wiping out major water reserves, wreaking havoc with wildlife and affecting millions of people.</p>

<p>A study last month by the World Weather Attribution (WWA) said climate change was the main driver of the "exceptional drought" in the world's largest rainforest.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The WWA is a scientific project that seeks to quantify how climate change influences the intensity and likelihood of a particular extreme weather event.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Such environmental "stress," said Alencar, "generates all the necessary conditions for each fire to become a large fire," adding that some of the blazes may have been the result of forest clearing for agriculture.</p>

<p>At least 14 people lost their lives and 20 were wounded after a pick-up vehicle lost control and overturned in the Indian state of&nbsp;Madhya Pradesh.</p>

<p>The accident occurred near Badjhar Ghat at around 1:30 am when the vehicle's driver lost control of the wheel.</p>

<p>The victims had gone to Amhai Devri village to participate in a programme in the district's Shahpura block and were returning when the incident took place.</p>

<p>Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister's Office released a statement expressing condolences for the loss of lives in the untoward incident, saying, "Dr. Mohan Yadav has expressed deep condolence over the loss of many precious lives in a vehicle accident in the Dindori district...Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to be given to the kin of the dead. Instructions have been given to the district administration for proper treatment of the injured."</p>

<p>"This could not have been possible without the assistance of India which has entirely financed these infrastructural projects," he added.</p>

<p>Expressing gratitude to his Indian counterpart, Jugnauth said that India's support to his country is "far-reaching" and that Mauritius became the first country to adopt the Jan Aushadhi scheme.</p>

<p>"I wish here to heartily thank Shri Narendra Modi Ji for giving a totally new dimension to the Mauritius-India relationship and partnership," Jugnauth said.</p>

<p>The Jan Aushadhi Scheme (JAS), which is aimed at providing quality generic medicines at affordable prices, was launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers in 2008.</p>

<p>"This scheme will allow our country to source some 250 high-quality medicines from the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Bureau of India. It will ensure access to quality medicines from India for our population, especially the vulnerable," the Mauritius Prime Minister said.</p>

<p>"The launching of this scheme in Mauritius will benefit our people at large and will impart further momentum to India's partnership with Mauritius. It has been my vision and that of my government to spearhead development in every single part of our territory since our people remain at the heart of our development goals. <p>North Korea's first spy satellite, which it launched in November 2023, is "alive", the space experts on Tuesday (Feb 20) said after they detected changes in its orbit.</p>

<p>The latest development indicates that Pyongyang is successfully controlling the spacecraft. However, its capabilities remain unknown.</p>

<p>After its launch in the month of November, North Korea claimed that the satellite had captured images of sensitive military and political sites in South Korea, the United States and elsewhere, but has not released any pictures.</p>

<p>Although, the independent radio trackers have not yet detected signals from the satellite.</p>

<p>"But now we can definitely say the satellite is alive," Marco Langbroek, a satellite expert at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, wrote in a blog post.</p>

<p>From Feb 19 to 24, the satellite conducted manoeuvres to raise its perigee from 488 km to 497 km (303.2 miles to 308.8 miles), said Langbroek, citing data from the US–led&nbsp;Combined Space Operations Center.</p>

<p>"The manoeuvre proves that Malligyong-1 is not dead and that North Korea has control over the satellite - something that was disputed," he said.</p>

<p>On Monday, Defence Minister Shin Won-sik said that the satellite was not showing any signs of performing other tasks or engaging in reconnaissance.</p>

<p>"While we indeed currently cannot be sure whether the satellite does successfully take imagery, it at least performs orbital manoeuvres, so in that sense it is functional," Langbroek wrote of Shin's comments.</p>

<p>He said that the orbit-raising manoeuvre was a surprising development as the presence of an onboard propulsion system was not expected and the satellites that were launched by North Korea previously never manoeuvred.</p>

<p>"Having the capacity to raise the satellite's orbit is a big deal," Langbroek said.</p>

<p>Harvard astronomer and orbital tracker Jonathan McDowell, according to news agency Reuters, said that the satellite appeared to be fixing its position in space as it moved to the same spot where it was shortly after the launch, instead of making a hostile progression towards another country's satellite.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jean-Pierre informed that efforts were being made to streamline the visa process, responding to concerns raised by a section of Indian Americans who were sceptical of Biden's efforts addressing the woes of legal immigrants as the US president was doing for illegal immigrants.</p>

<p>A new organisational account would be required to take part in the H-1B Electronic Registration Process starting in March 2024, the USCIS said.</p>

<p>The initial registration period for FY 2025 H-1B cap will begin at noon Eastern on March 6, and run through noon Eastern on March 22.</p>

<p>"The Respondent, Union and State governments, in anticipation of the protest by the farmer, issued threats against the people participating in the protest, fortified the borders of the state around the city of Delhi, with iron spikes, concrete walls, etc. ensuring that farmers are not able to enter the territory of the national capital," the petition added.</p>

<p>It further urged the relevant authorities to be instructed to unblock social media accounts and ensure that the freedom of speech shouldn't be restricted.</p>

<p>"Instruct relevant authorities to take immediate action against those who are defaming farmers and Sikhs, and hurling abuses, using derogatory terms and issuing threats," the petition urged.</p>

<p>“The Houthis continue to demonstrate disregard for the regional impact of their indiscriminate attacks, threatening the fishing industry, coastal communities, and imports of food supplies,” United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement, warning that the ship’s cargo “could spill into the Red Sea and worsen this environmental disaster.”</p>

<p>An attack on a mosque in eastern Burkina Faso on Monday (Feb 26) claimed the lives of dozens of Muslims, following another deadly attack on Catholics attending mass, reported news agency AFP citing security sources.</p>

<p>"Armed individuals attacked a mosque in Natiaboani on Sunday around 5&nbsp;am, resulting in several dozen being killed," a security source said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The victims were all Muslims, most of them men" who had come for morning prayers, a local resident said by telephone.</p>

<p>"The terrorists entered the town early morning. They surrounded the mosque and shot at the faithful, who were gathered there for the first prayer of the day," another local source said according to AFP.</p>

<p>"Several of them were shot, including an important religious leader," the source added.</p>

<p>Hours before the mosque attack, at least 15 civilians were killed and two others were wounded in a "terrorist" attack on a Catholic church during Sunday mass in northern Burkina Faso.</p>

<p>"We bring to your attention a terrorist attack which the Catholic community of Essakane village was the victim of today, February 25, while they were gathered for Sunday prayer," the vicar of the Dori diocese, Jean-Pierre Sawadogo, said in a statement.</p>

<p>Sawadogo denounced "those who continue to wreak death and desolation in our country," and called for peace and security in the country.</p>

<p>Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh on Monday (Feb 26) said that he had submitted his government's resignation to President Mahmud Abbas stating that Gaza now needed "new political measures" taking into consideration its current status due to the ongoing war.</p>

<p>"I submit the government's resignation to Mr President (Mahmud Abbas)," Shtayyeh said, adding that it comes in the wake of the "developments related to the aggression against the Gaza Strip and the escalation in the West Bank and Jerusalem".</p>

<p>He further said that he offered the resignation last Tuesday (Feb 20), but formally submitted it "in writing" on Monday.</p>

<p>The resignation by Shtayyeh's government, which rules parts of the occupied West Bank, comes as countries like the United States called for a reformed Palestinian Authority that would take charge of all Palestinian territories after the war in the Gaza Strip comes to an end.</p>

<p>He also called for an inter-Palestinian consensus and the "extension of the (Palestinian) Authority's rule over the entire land of Palestine".</p>

<p>Since 2007, the Palestinian leadership has been split between the Palestinian Authority of Abbas, which exercises limited power in the West Bank, and Hamas which rules Gaza.</p>

<p>It is not yet clear if Abbas will accept the resignation immediately or wait until a new prime minister is appointed.</p>

<p>However, local media reports suggest that Abbas might appoint Mohammed Mustafa, an executive committee member of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, to head his new cabinet.</p>
