India Willoughby, Britain's first transgender newsreader, has accused Rowling of a "hate crime" over remarks she posted on X on Monday (March 4).

The 58-year-old author referred to the newsreader as a “man” in her posts.

"I contacted Northumbria Constabulary yesterday ... I have reported J.K. Rowling to the police for what she said," Willoughby said in an interview with independent news publisher Byline Times which it posted on X late on Wednesday.

"Calling a trans person a man, deliberately knowing that that person is a woman - and I am a woman regardless of what J.K. Rowling says ... my birth certificate says female, my passport, all my documents, I am legally recognised as a woman, and for J.K. Rowling to deliberately, and that is the key word, misgender me knowing who I am, is grossly offensive."

The "Harry Potter" author rebuffed the accusations stating that to hold gender-critical views was not a crime.

"Some time ago, lawyers advised me that not only did I have a clearly winnable case against India Willoughby for defamation, but that India's obsessive targeting of me over the past few years may meet the legal threshold for harassment," Rowling wrote on X.

On being asked about Willoughby's accusation, Northumbria Police, in Northern England, released a statement saying, "On Monday, March 4, we received a complaint about a post on social media. We are currently awaiting to speak to the complainant further."

Experts from UNESCO evaluated 2 algorithms and OpenAI's GPT-2 and GPT-3.5, the program that drives the free version of the well-known chatbot ChatGPT.

<h2>What did the study discover?</h2>

The study found that algorithms, that are referred to in the industry as Large Language Models (LLMs), exhibited "unequivocal evidence of prejudice against women".

The programs generated texts that associated women's names with terms like "home," "family," or "children", whereas, men's names were linked with "business", "salary" or "career".

Women were mostly shown as prostitutes, cooks, or domestic helpers, whereas men were portrayed as holding high-status positions like teachers, lawyers, and doctors.

The study found that GPT-3.5 was less biased than the other two models.

In contrast to GPT-3.5, which is a closed model, the authors praised Llama 2 and GPT-2 for being open source, allowing these problems to be closely examined.

AI companies "are really not serving all of their users", Leona Verdadero, a UNESCO specialist in digital policies, told news agency AFP.

Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO's director general, stated that because the general public was increasingly using AI tools in their everyday lives, it was important to raise concerns about these applications exhibiting gender bias as they hold the power to subtly change perceptions.&nbsp;

"These new AI applications have the power to subtly shape the perceptions of millions of people, so even small gender biases in their content can significantly amplify inequalities in the real world," she said.

UNESCO, releasing the report to mark International Women's Day, urged AI businesses to hire more women employees and minorities.

It also called on the governments to ensure ethical AI through regulation.

Punjab police registered a zero FIR on Feb 29 in the case of Singh's death.&nbsp;

Punjab IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill stated that the probe will proceed as per the law after consulting with the legal experts.

"In the matter of Shubhkaran (Singh), after consulting the legal experts, the Punjab Police has registered a zero FIR. Further investigation will be done as per the law. His family is performing his last rites today. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann provided compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family and a daughter in the family is being given the job of a constable," said Gill.

Currently seen as a clear favourite to lead the Commission again, von der Leyen would begin a new term as Europe looks to strengthen its security and defence while Russia wages war on its borders and Donald Trump eyes a return to the White House.

If approved by leaders of the EU's 27 member countries, she will have another term charting the bloc's policies on everything from big tech and state aid to Chinese investment screening and sanctions against Russia.

Agriculture Minister Marek Vyborny reaffirmed that the government would not buckle under&nbsp;pressure.

"I expect an honest approach from the (protest) organisers who promised not to block traffic in Prague. I don't find manure dumped on tram tracks to be such an approach," read the post by&nbsp;Vyborny.

The Czech Agrarian Chamber has demanded reduced property taxes for farmland, programs to boost employment in farming, and subsidies matching 2022 levels.

It has also called for the government to help tackle a surplus in EU markets that has been spurred on by cheap imports.

"The situation ... is not good and is constantly getting worse," the chamber's president, Jan Dolezal, said ahead of the protests.

At least 11 people lost their lives after an Israeli strike hit tents housing displaced civilians near a hospital in the southern city of Rafah on Saturday (March 2), said Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry.

It further said that another 50 people were injured in the strike next to a hospital in the Tel Al-Sultan area of Rafah.

One of the deceased victims was a medic at the hospital and children were also injured in the blast, ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said in a statement.

"Eleven citizens were martyred and about 50 injured, including children, as a result of Israeli forces targeting tents of displaced people near the Emirati hospital," AFP quoted Qudra as saying.

One of the witnesses said that the strike hit a tent where people had taken shelter.&nbsp;

"The strike hit one tent, where people took shelter, directly, the shrapnel came inside the hospital where I and friends were sitting, we survived by a miracle," news agency Reuters quoted a witness as saying.

"Destruction is everywhere and there are many martyrs," said Rafah resident Belal Abu Jekhleh.

"Suddenly the glass shattered and a fire broke out. Everyone fled, some were martyred and others injured. I was injured in my hands and head, and my brother was also injured," he added.

UK-owned Rubymar cargo ship, which was damaged in an attack by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebel group in February, has reportedly sunk in the Red Sea, Yemen's government said on Saturday (March 2).

The government further warned of an "environmental catastrophe" from the vessel's cargo of fertilizer.

"The MV Rubymar sank last night, coinciding with weather factors and strong winds at sea," said a crisis cell of Yemen's internationally recognised government in charge of the case.

Roy Khoury, chief executive of the ship's operator Blue Fleet, according to news agency AFP stated that he was unaware of the sinking.

"We have nobody on board to check if it's true or not," he said.

A Yemeni government team on Monday (Feb 26) had visited the Rubymar and said that the vessel was partially submerged. A government statement on Saturday also said that the ship had sunk in the southern Red Sea on Friday night.

Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, foreign minister in Yemen's Aden-based government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia, said in a post on X: "The sinking of the Rubymar is an environmental catastrophe that Yemen and the region have never experienced before.

"It is a new tragedy for our country and our people. Every day we pay the price for the adventures of the Houthi militia ..."

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency on Saturday reported a ship sinking, however, did not identify it.

The ship was hit by missiles fired by the Houthis on Feb 18 and the crew onboard was immediately evacuated.

The US military had previously said that the Rubymar was loaded with over 41,000 tons of fertiliser at the time it was attacked, causing an 18-mile (29km) oil slick.

“The Houthis continue to demonstrate a disregard for the regional impact of their indiscriminate attacks, threatening the fishing industry, coastal communities, and imports of food supplies,” United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement, warning that the ship’s cargo “could spill into the Red Sea and worsen this environmental disaster.”

Earlier, the Yemen's Iran-backed rebel group had vowed to prevent the rescue of the leaking ship until people in the war-torn Gaza Strip were provided with access to food, water, and medicine.

“The sinking British ship might be hauled in return for delivering aid vehicles to Gaza,” Al-Houthi said on X. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Sunday (March 3) came down heavily on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stating that he was never abused by RJD when he previously broke the alliance with them in the year 2017.

He then questioned Kumar's decision to return to the NDA fold asking if he ever feels ashamed about the way he keeps changing sides.

While addressing the party's 'Jan Vishwas Maha Rally' in Patna, Yadav said, "We never abused him when he broke alliance with us. We just called him Paltu-Ram at that time. But we made the same mistake again, and Tejashwi made the same mistake again. We knew something was happening in Raj Bhawan. There was nothing wrong with that government (previous Bihar govt). Does he not feel ashamed?"

He then appealed to the public to make the BJP lose in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls stating that the opinion of Bihar resonates with that of the country.

"Bihar has given lots of great personalities. In the same Gandhi Maidan, leaders of the country have held rallies and meetings. A message went to the whole country from here. Bihar's opinion has so much power that the people of the country imitate what Bihar decides. Tomorrow also, the same is going to happen," he said.

Opposition leaders such as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav were also present at the RJD's 'Jan Vishwas Maha Rally'.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party has been given a deadline by the Supreme Court to vacate its headquarters which stands on the plot of land allotted to the High Court.

The apex court has directed the party to vacate the place by June 15.

Taking into consideration the upcoming general election, a bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud also allowed AAP to apply to the Land and Development Office of the Government of India for allotment of alternate land in accordance with the law in the meantime.

"In view of the impending general elections, we grant time until June 15, 2024, to vacate the premises," the court said.

"We hope that the BJP will not do any regressive, discriminatory or dirty politics and, without further delay, allot land for the AAP's office premises at the same location where all the other national parties have been allotted land for office use in Delhi," Kakkar said.

At the time of the hearing in the court, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted that the Aam Aadmi Party had encroached on the land since 2017.

The court also underscored that the AAP was not a lawful occupant of the land after 2017.

However, senior Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the national capital's ruling party, submitted that the AAP was one of the six national parties and is entitled to land in the New Delhi municipal area, under its status.

"They are telling us as a national party we get nothing. I'm given (land in) Badarpur while everyone else is in better places. A particular government does not want me to be flourishing and working," Singhvi said.
