The United States has dispatched a military ship laden with humanitarian aid to war-torn Gaza, Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Sunday (March 10).

This comes after US President Joe Biden announced during his State of the Union address&nbsp; that the US military will build a temporary aid port on Gaza's Mediterranean coast to provide humanitarian aid to the besieged Palestinian enclave via sea.

General Frank S. Besson left Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia "less than 36 hours after President Biden announced the U.S. would provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza by sea," CENTCOM said in a statement.

The logistics support vessel is "carrying the first equipment to establish a temporary pier to deliver vital humanitarian supplies," it said.

There is no port infrastructure in Gaza. The US plans to use Cyprus initially, which is offering a procedure for screening of cargoes that will include Israeli officials, eliminating the need for security checks in Gaza.

An Israeli official said Tel Aviv "fully supports the deployment of a temporary dock" on Gaza’s coast and the operation would be carried out "with full coordination between the two parties."&nbsp;

He then appealed to the voters to ensure the victory of all seven candidates of the AAP-Congress combine in Delhi.

The AAP is a member of the INDIA bloc which has positioned itself to take on the BJP in the upcoming April–May Lok Sabha elections.

While AAP is contesting from four of Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats, the Congress will field candidates from three.

The government media office in Hamas-run Gaza, referring to the ones who died on Friday, said that the airdrops were "futile" and "not the best way for aid to enter."

The United States and Jordan are among the countries that have carried out airdrops in northern Gaza.

The situation in the besieged Palestinian enclave is dire, with over 2.3 million people displaced due to the ongoing Israeli offensive. There are also reports of people dying of malnutrition.

Almost nine months after the killing of India-designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the alleged video of the incident has surfaced on the internet, Canada-based CBC News reported.

The footage shows Nijjar being shot by armed men in what has been dubbed a "contract killing".

The report said that the footage has been independently verified by more than one source.

The attack, which has been termed as 'highly coordinated', was carried out by six men and involved two vehicles.

"I tried to press his chest and tried to shake him to see if he was breathing. But he was totally unconscious. He was not breathing," he said.

Singh said that he chased the two men until they got into the Toyota Camry.

"A car came from around the alley and they got into it. There were three others sitting in that car," Singh said. "We could smell the smoke from the guns, the smell of the guns was everywhere."

Nijjar's death sparked a diplomatic row between India and Canada after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged New Delhi's involvement in the Khalistani terrorist's killing.

India, however, has rebuffed the accusations calling them "absurd and motivated".

Congress on Friday (March 8) released its first list of candidates for 39 Lok Sabha constituencies, a week after the Bharatiya Janta party came out with its list.

The announcement by the grand old party has been made for the Lok Sabha seats in Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshwadeep, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Telangana and Tripura.

Out of the total 39 candidates announced, 16 are from Kerala, seven from Karnataka,&nbsp;six from Chhattisgarh, and four from Telangana. Two from Meghalaya and one each from Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim and Lakshwadeep.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will again contest from the Wayanad constituency.

This comes during what is dubbed as the hottest February on record.

Marine scientists issued a warning this week saying that a fourth global mass coral bleaching event will likely take place in the Southern Hemisphere, driven by warming waters, which could be the worst that the world has ever witnessed.

Under severe heat stress, corals bleach, driving out the beneficial, colourful algae that reside in their tissues, leaving behind a pale skeleton. They become susceptible to hunger and illness as a result, and many of them die.&nbsp;

"What is more surprising is that sea surface temperatures are at record levels over regions far away from the centre of the El Nino action, such as the tropical Atlantic and Indian Ocean," said climate scientist Richard Allan of the University of Reading.&nbsp;

He stated that this demonstrated the significant impact of increasing greenhouse gas emissions on the atmosphere.&nbsp;

The polar oceans are not included in the global average sea surface temperature data, however, the conditions there are dire too.

In February, Antarctic sea ice hit its yearly minimum extent, registering its third-lowest extent on record at 28 per cent&nbsp;below average.

Despite an impasse over Hamas' phased process demand, Egyptian officials have not ruled out the possibility of a deal before Ramadan, expected to begin Sunday evening (Mar 10).

Earlier on Saturday, a US senior official said that Israel has 'more or less' agreed to a deal proposing a six-week ceasefire in its war against the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The Biden administration official further added that it was now up to Hamas to fully agree to the release of the most vulnerable hostages for the agreement to be put into effect.

The first airdrop was made on Saturday where humanitarian aid was dropped over the coast of southwestern Gaza. The situation in the besieged Palestinian enclave is dire, with over 2.3 million people displaced due to the ongoing Israeli offensive. As per the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry in Gaza, at least 15 children died in one hospital alone. There are also reports of people dying of malnutrition. Gaza truce talks to reconvene next week Meanwhile, Hamas on Thursday (March 7) announced that its delegation left Cairo and discussions on a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release are set to reconvene next week. The latest development raises questions if the mediators would be able to ink a ceasefire deal before the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Despite an impasse over Hamas' phased process demand, Egyptian officials have not ruled out the possibility of a deal before Ramadan, expected to begin Sunday evening (Mar 10). Earlier on Saturday, a US senior official said that Israel has 'more or less' agreed to a deal proposing a six-week ceasefire in its war against the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The Biden administration official further added that it was now up to Hamas to fully agree to the release of the most vulnerable hostages for the agreement to be put into effect.
