<p>DC's much-anticipated <em>The Flash</em> will release next month. While the excitement is quite considerable about the project, a shadow also looms over it, thanks to the lead star Ezra Miller. But director Andy Muschietti has said that he doesn't think anybody else can play that character as well. In the teaser for the upcoming episode of <em>The Discourse</em> podcast, he said, "I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys — it feels like a character that was made for them.” Miller indeed essays two versions of Barry, one in the main continuity and one in a parallel reality.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Andy's sister and co-producer Barbara Muschietti said, “In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional [actor]. Ezra gave everything for this role — physically, creatively, emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.”</p>

Mind you, this is apart from the troubles over conflicts between the studio and the writers and directors. The project has seen the comings and goings of multiple writers and filmmakers over the years before Muschietti, who directed the It movies for Warners, joined the project.</p>

<p>But the real cause of distress has been Miller. They had numerous run-ins with the law in the last couple of years [Miller uses they pronoun]. Even the lockdown induced by COVID-19 did not deter them as they were involved in a spate of incidents around the globe and many of which were violent in nature.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Some people told <em>Vanity Fair </em>as saying that Miller claimed to be Jesus, the Devil, and the next Messiah, among other things. Naturally, the Warners Bros execs were apprehensive of the bad press the film and by extension, the studio was getting. It was even contemplated to recast them or scrap the project altogether, much like what happened with <em>Batgirl</em>.</p>

The Flash director says nobody can play the DC superhero like Ezra Miller: 'The character was made for them'

<p>ABC's Lost, despite that finale, is mostly remembered fondly by TV fans. It was a massive undertaking, and writers juggled dozens of actors and had deep backstories for each of them. In addition to that, the island where the characters found themselves was part of this deep mythology that went back thousands of years in history. The cast was populated by mostly relatively little-known but talented actors. But behind the scenes, the situation was far from ideal. Women and racial minorities were subjected to toxic behaviour and abuse by white members of the writing team, including by one of the creators Damon Lindelof and executive producer Carlton Cuse, with no accountability.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the parts of this story have been public knowledge, journalist Maureen Ryan goes into it with a lot of detail in her forthcoming book titled BURN IT DOWN: Power, Complicity, and a Call for Change in Hollywood.</p>

<h2><strong>Major revelations in Maureen Ryan's book on toxic behaviour at&nbsp;<em>Lost</em></strong></h2>

<p>As per an excerpt shared with Vanity Fair, Ryan quotes, among others, African-American actor Harold Perrineau. He says that he felt that certain characters received more attention and development than others. Perrineau, who played Michael, expressed his concerns about the lack of depth and care given to his character. He believed it perpetuated the narrative that Black characters and their stories were not as important.</p>

<p>Perrineau also faced difficulties in addressing these issues with Lindelof and Cuse. He felt the risks of discussing race and representation were high, as people often became defensive when race was brought up. Despite eventually raising his concerns, Perrineau's character was eventually written off the show, seemingly as a punishment. He felt betrayed and dismissed by the producers, who cited his desire for more substantial material as the reason for his departure.</p>

<p>This account is supported by other sources who worked on <em>Lost</em>, including Monica Owusu-Breen, a writer who described the challenging environment in the writers' room. She mentioned a lack of consideration for characters of colour in the show and writers of colour behind the scenes.</p>

<h2><strong>Damon Lindelof responds</strong></h2>

<p>The excerpt&nbsp;also quotes Lindelof, who admits that he was callous towards those under him. “My level of fundamental inexperience as a manager and a boss, my role as someone who was supposed to model a climate of creative danger and risk-taking but provide safety and comfort inside of the creative process—I failed in that endeavour," he said.</p>

<p>He added, “And so I was like, okay, as long as there are one or two [writers] who don’t look and think exactly like me, then, then I’m okay. I came to learn that was even worse. He told Vanity Fair, “I tried to go into the water after we cut — I got up from that bench and went as fast as I could over the barrier and onto the pilings, and the actor playing Colin (Scott Nicholson) raced over."</p>

<p>A woman from Bolton, North West England was badly burned in her face after she attempted a cooking hack she saw on popular short form video sharing site TikTok. As per UK media reports, Shafia Bashir, 37, was trying to poach an egg in her microwave oven using a method that she had learned from a TikTok user. She poured boiling water in a mug, added the egg, and microwaved it. But when she put a cold spoon in the water to retrieve the egg, her face was splashed by boiling water, scalding the right side of her face. She immediately splashed cold water on her face and immediately sought medical attention. But the burns were so bad that the skin of her face was peeling.</p>

<p>“It was the most excruciating pain in my life. It was a terrifying time for me. I was in absolute agony. As soon as I put the cold spoon in, it exploded like a fountain and it scolded me. I put my face under the tap and then had to get my mate to look after my daughter so I could go to A&amp;E," she said.</p>
