For the study, the researchers asked volunteers to donate their&nbsp;armpit sweat while watching either a scary or a happy movie. Then they looked for&nbsp;48 women who had social anxiety and asked them to sniff some of these samples, alongside receiving a more conventional therapy called mindfulness, which encourages people to focus on the present moment than replaying negative thoughts.

Some of the women were given genuine body odour to sniff, while others were given clean air instead. Scientists say that those who were exposed to sweat appeared to do better with mindfulness therapy.

Lead researcher of the study, Elisa Vigna, says, "Sweat produced while someone was happy had the same effect as someone who had been scared by a movie clip. So there may be something about human chemo-signals in sweat generally which affects the response to treatment."

Vigna added, "It may be that simply being exposed to the presence of someone else has this effect, but we need to confirm this. In fact, that is what we are testing now in a follow-up study with a similar design, but where we are also including sweat from individuals watching emotionally neutral documentaries."

Aromas, detected by receptors in the upper part of the nose,&nbsp;are relayed directly to the limbic system, a brain region that is associated with memory and emotions. And while most of the skin's sweat is odourless, sweat glands in the armpit and groin produce certain compounds that cause body odour.

Duncan Boak from the charity Fifth Sense says, "We know there's a strong link between our sense of smell and our emotional well-being. Losing the ability to smell other people, such as your partner and children can cause depression and feelings of isolation."

Boak&nbsp;added, "Whilst this is a preliminary study and further work is of course needed, it's very encouraging to see further research around the importance of our sense of smell to good mental health."

"All the evidence proves that Mr Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her whatsoever,"&nbsp;she said. "Unfortunately, this incident came about because this woman was having an emotional crisis, for which she was taken to a hospital yesterday. The NYPD is required to make an arrest in these situations, and this is the only reason Mr Majors was arrested. We expect these charges to be dropped soon."

Fury erupted in the art community last year with the release of generative artificial intelligence (AI) programs that can convincingly carry out commands such as drawing a dog like a cartoonist Sarah Andersen would, or a nymph the way illustrator Karla Ortiz might do.

Such style-swiping AI works are cranked out without the original artist's consent, credit or compensation -- the three C's at the heart of a fight to change all that.

In January, artists including Andersen and Ortiz filed a class-action lawsuit against DreamUp, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion, three image-generating AI models programmed with art found online.

Andersen told AFP she felt "violated" when first she saw an AI drawing that copied the style of her "Fangs" comic book work.

She fired off an indignant reaction on Twitter; it went viral, and other incensed artists reached out to her with stories of their own.

Backers of the suit hope to establish legal precedent governing generative AI models that copy artists' styles.

Artists want AI creators to be required to secure permission for works used in training software, with an option to remove them. They also want suitable compensation.

"There is room for a conversation about what that would look like," said Ortiz.

Compensation could take the form of a licensing model, she mused and would need to be appropriate. 
It would be wrong for artists to "get a couple of cents while the company gets millions" of dollars, added Ortiz, whose resume includes working for Marvel Studios.

- Cheap and easy -

On social networks, artists are sharing tales of jobs being lost to generative AI.

The suit notes that a video game designer named Jason Allen last year won a Colorado State Fair competition with art created using Midjourney.

"Art is dead, dude. It's over. AI won. Humans lost," Allen was quoted as telling The New York Times. 
The Mauritshuis Museum in the Netherlands sparked controversy by displaying an AI-generated image inspired by Vermeer's "Girl With a Pearl Earring."

The San Francisco Ballet, meanwhile, caused a stir by using Midjourney to generate illustrations used in promotional material for "Nutcracker" performances in December.

"It's sort of a natural consequence of something being easy and cheap and accessible," Andersen said.

"Of course, they are going to use that option, even if it is unethical," she added.

AI companies named in the lawsuit did not respond to requests for comment.

Stability AI founder and chief executive Emad Mostaque has portrayed generative software as a "tool" that can tend to "mundane image output" and provide new ways "of ideating for artists."

Mostaque contends that it will allow more people to become artists.

Critics disagree. When a person prompts the software to draw in the style of a master, they say, it does not make that person an artist.

Mostaque has said that if people choose to use generative AI unethically or to break the law, "that's their problem."

- Death of creativity? -

Companies defending themselves from artists' copyright claims are likely to claim "fair use," an exception sometimes allowed when a new spin is put on creation or when it is only briefly excerpted.

"The magic word used in the US court system is 'transformative,'" said lawyer and developer Matthew Butterick.

"Is this a new use of the copyrighted work, or does it replace the original in the marketplace?"

Artists are turning not just to the courts but to technology to defend themselves against generative AI.

Prompted by artists, a team at the University of Chicago last week launched their "Glaze" software to help protect original works.

The program adds a layer of data over images that, while invisible to the human eye, "acts as a decoy" for AI, said Shawn Shan, the doctoral student in charge of the project.

That still leaves the onus on artists to adopt Glaze. Butterick predicts a "cat-and-mouse game" as AI makers figure out ways around such defences.

Butterick also worries about the effect of AI on the human spirit.

"When science fiction imagines the AI apocalypse, it's something like robots coming over the hill with laser guns," he said.

"I think the way AI defeats humanity is more where people just give up and don't want to create new things, and (it) sucks the life out of humanity."

Artists fight AI programs that copy their styles

Innocent, one of the most popular actors in the Malayalam film industry, died in Kerala on Sunday night. He was 75. He was admitted to a private hospital in Kochi on March 3.

The former MP,&nbsp;a two-time cancer survivor, had contracted Covid and later suffered from pneumonia that eventually led to his death.

His body will be taken to the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor stadium in Ernakulam at 6.30 a.m. on Monday morning. The body will be kept there for three hours. From the stadium, his body will be taken to his native place Iringalakkuda where the funeral will be held in the evening.

The veteran actor who had acted in around 700 movies and produced many of them was a comedian and a character actor.

He had won from the Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency in 2014 as a CPI-M candidate and had been quite a "significant voice" in the Parliament while representing the constituency.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in his condolence message said, "Innocent, through his natural acting had entered the hearts of people. He was also a good social worker. He has stamped his presence in all the areas of the film industry and had performed as a comedian, character actor and producer."

Innocent has written a popular Malayalam book, 'Cancer Wardile Chiri' or 'Smile in Cancer Ward'. Innocent entered the Malayalam film industry with the movie 'Nrithasala' directed by Mohan, one of the most popular Malayalam directors.

Innocent was also the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA) -- an organisation for Malayalam actors.

He headed the AMMA for 18 years. He also worked towards the development of a pension scheme for retired Malayalam actors.

Innocent won the state award for the best actor in the movie, Mazhavilkavadi.

Malayalam superstar Mammootty, Jayaram, and several other top actors of the Malayalam film industry are present in the hospital where he passed away.

Kerala Minister for Higher Education, R. Bindu also condoled his death.

Marisa used to work in medical-device sales in 2020. After feeling miserable and burned out for days at the time, she decided to quit her job and give self-employment a whirl. At first, she thought the problem was her boss or the work culture in corporate America. But, she soon realised that she had a "hustle culture" problem and&nbsp;a perfectionism problem. She was still approaching work the same way she did in her corporate job. The result was that she was swirling into a constant cycle of stress and burnout.

"I'd feel bad because I was so burned out I couldn't do anything. So I'd make an insanely long to-do list for Mondays with the hope of overachieving my way back to feeling good about myself and how much I was getting done," Marisa, who popularised the phrase, told The New York Post.

"Every week, the 'Sunday scaries' would hit, and every Monday, I'd sleep in until the absolute last second because I knew that list was waiting for me. The pressure I was putting on myself was paralysing, and I realised something had to change."

"It's two hours of no technology — no checking email — just doing whatever I need to do to feel good starting my day," she shared.

Around 10, she starts focusing on creative work for her brand, before breaking for lunch at 11. After that, the next two hours are solely for completing her "main work tasks".

"I'm not multitasking, I'm not distracted, I'm not on my phone. If I'm not done after that, I'll do another hour, but it's usually no more than that," Marisa continued. "My Monday workday is shorter but because it's really focused work, I get the same amount done as my old eight-hour workdays."

"It is not worth burning out and being incapable the following day. In my view, it is far better to work fewer hours at 80-90 per cent effectiveness and allow your body to rest and recover," Ellson told Daily Mail.

Ellson said that the concept was a great idea to avoid burning out over time and recommended changing the work environment if possible. She suggested working remotely from a library or co-sharing space for extra motivation.&nbsp;

"Instead of working from home, go to the library with your laptop and talk to the librarian about your work goals – they are a wealth of knowledge and can help you find great solutions. If you have a local co-working space, consider going there on a Monday if you need a bit of extra motivation and would like to have something to look forward to doing differently on Mondays and being around other people,"&nbsp;Ellson added.

After feeling miserable and burned out for days at the time, she decided to quit her job and give self-employment a whirl. At first, she thought the problem was her boss or the work culture in corporate America. But, she soon realised that she had a "hustle culture" problem and a perfectionism problem. In a clip that has been viewed over a million times online, they are seen passionately kissing on the streets of Tokyo, Japan.

For those unaware, Styles is currently in Japan for his Love on Tour concert series.

The photographs and video were first obtained by The Daily Mail. While Styles is seen dressed in a white shirt, a black jacket and matching pants, Ratajkowski is seen sporting a pink and black jacket along with a long black skirt.

Both the stars are yet to comment on the viral video.

New York Police Department (NYPD) said that Creed III&nbsp;and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania&nbsp;actor was involved in a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman. Police responded to a 911 call around 11 AM and reached&nbsp;an apartment in the Manhattan neighbourhood of Chelsea to investigate the situation.

"The victim informed police that she was assaulted,"&nbsp;a spokesperson for the NYPD said in a statement. "Officers placed the 33-year-old male into custody without incident. The victim sustained minor injuries to her head and neck and was removed to an area hospital in stable condition."

Oscar-winning documentary The Elephant Whisperers'&nbsp;Bomman and Bellie&nbsp;received a heartwarming welcome from the Indigo staff and the passengers on an Ooty flight. A video of the same has been doing the rounds on the internet. The viral clip shows a pilot giving a shoutout to&nbsp;Bomman and Bellie for moving millions of people with their story.&nbsp;

"Some of you might not know, that award for the best documentary at the Oscars was given to a documentary called The Elephant Whisperers and we have the main team of the documentary onboard with us. So give them a round of applause,"&nbsp;the flight’s pilot said.

The couple recently travelled to Mumbai for a press conference and to reunite with The Elephant Whispers' team.&nbsp;At the press conference, Bomman said, "I am a Kattuanayakan. I am a protector of the forest. I feel immense pride that the stories of my babies have been put in front of the world. I want to thank Kartiki madam for actually bringing my story and the story of my children to the entire world. That is so important to me, beyond the prize, the pride I feel as a father."

Meanwhile, Bellie said, "Bomman might feel a little shy. But I have no fear because I've lived in the forest. You people might think Oscar is a big prize but for me, the real prize is coming and meeting all you wonderful people who have given me so much respect as a mother. I want to thank everybody here. It's wonderful to be able to come to a big city and meet people."

Bomman and Bellie are now taking care of a new orphaned elephant calf. She shared, "It is sometimes painful when I bring up elephants and they have been left back in the wild. As a mother, you bring up children and then they go away. As a mother, I was apprehensive about bringing up another child. But when they brought Dharmam to me and they told me his mother has passed away. How could I say no to bringing up the baby elephant?"

The Elephant Whisperers&nbsp;won the Best Documentary Short winner at the 95th Academy Awards. Directed by debutant Kartiki Gonsalves, the 41-minute short documentary explores the tentative yet precious bond between Raghu, an orphaned baby elephant, and his caretakers – a mahout couple named Bomman and Bellie – who devote their lives to protect him from poachers and raise him.

The Oscar-winning documentary is financially backed by Guneet Monga and can be seen on Netflix.&nbsp;
