<p>A Thai woman has been arrested after her pet lion was spotted enjoying a luxurious cruise in the streets of Pattaya, seated regally in the back of a white Bentley.</p>

<p>The viral video, posted by 'Madamannudon' on Facebook, captured the lion cub wearing a collar and basking in the extravagance of the ride through Soi Phratamnak 5 in Bang Lamung district back in December 2023.</p>

<p>The lion's chauffeur, a Sri Lankan man has already left the country. He is a friend of the arrested Thai woman Sawangjit Kosoongnern, the owner of the lion.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sawangjit is believed to have purchased the lion from a Thai man in Nakhon Pathom province, which is about 56 kilometres from Thailand's capital&nbsp;Bangkok.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While moving the lion from&nbsp;Nakhon Pathom to&nbsp;Pattaya, the former owner&nbsp;failed to comply with regulations.</p>

<p>It will involve identifying areas for partnership in the "defence industrial sector that prioritise co-designing, co-development, co-production and also building the defence supply chains between the two countries so that they can not only fulfil the defence needs of India and France, but also can be a useful contributor to the security partnership with other countries who might be in use of similar products."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking on the specific agreements reached during the visit, Kwatra detailed, "These are the documents which have been agreed upon. Roadmap on the India-France Defence Industrial Roadmap. Second is an agreement on Defence space partnership. Third- an MoU between New Space India Limited (NSIL) and Arianespace with regard to satellite launches. An industrial partnership between Tata and Airbus helicopters for the production of H125 helicopters with a significant indigenous and localization component."</p>

<p>In a surprising turn of events, former Chief Minister from India's southwestern&nbsp;state of Karnataka, Jagadish Shettar,&nbsp;rejoined the BJP just months after crying foul of "ill-treatment" by the party.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I am rejoining with the belief Narendra Modiji has to become prime minister again," said Shettar on Thursday (Jan 25).</p>

<p>He was welcomed back into the BJP fold after being signed off&nbsp;by Home Minister Amit Shah. The event took place at BJP's Delhi headquarters in the presence of Karnataka unit chief BY Vijayendra and ex-Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.</p>

<p>Earlier, Shettar acknowledged that there were some "issues" which led to his departure from the BJP. However, he said, "In the last eight or nine months, there were a lot of discussions. BJP workers asked me to come back...Yediyurappaji and Vijayendraji also wanted me to come back... so I am rejoining."</p>

<p>Notably, the former minister left the BJP before the 2023 Karnataka Assembly election and joined the Congress after being denied a ticket by the BJP national leadership.&nbsp;He&nbsp;fought on a Congress ticket but faced a substantial defeat from the Hubbali (Hubli)-Central Dharwad constituency, where he had served as a six-term MLA.</p>

<p>The Congress, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, issued a sharp rebuke on Shettar's resignation.</p>

<p>"He (Shettar) joined the Congress stating BJP disrespected him... we gave him a ticket for the Assembly election, made him MLC after he lost...so he wasn't disrespected in the Congress nor was injustice done," said&nbsp;Siddaramaiah.</p>

<p>British negotiators paused free trade talks with Canada on Thursday after years of discussions between the two Commonwealth nations, Ottawa said.</p>

<p>British cheese imports to Canada and Canadian beef exports to the UK remain major sticking points, a source close to the negotiations told AFP.</p>

<p>"We are disappointed that negotiations with the UK are being paused," a spokesperson for Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng said in a statement.</p>

<p>"Their decision to continue to maintain market access barriers for our agriculture industry and unwillingness to reach a mutual agreement has only stalled negotiations," the official said.</p>

<p>Ng has "been in touch" with her British counterpart Kemi Badenoch "to express our disappointment," the official added.</p>
