<p>India has suspended a drugmaker's manufacturing licence after the World Health Organization flagged contamination in its cough syrups found in the Mashall Islands and Micronesia in April, the government told the parliament on Tuesday.</p>

<p>Indian regulators are inspecting drugmakers after cough syrups made in the country were linked to at least 89 child deaths in Gambia and Uzbekistan last year, which has damaged India's image as the "pharmacy of the world" providing affordable drugs globally.</p>

<p>The WHO flagged contamination with unacceptable amounts of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol, which are toxic to humans when consumed and can prove fatal, in samples taken from a batch of cough syrup made by QP Pharmachem Ltd, based in the northern Punjab state. The company has denied any wrongdoing and told Reuters it planned to appeal against the suspension.</p>

<p>"Drug samples drawn from the manufacturing premises ... were declared as 'not of standard quality'," Deputy Health Minister Bharati Pravin Pawar told the parliament.</p>

<p>The manufacturing licences of QP Pharmachem Ltd and two other companies, whose products were linked to the child deaths - Maiden Pharmaceuticals and Marion Biotech Pvt. Ltd - have been suspended and their exports halted, Pawar added.</p>

<p>Maiden Pharmaceuticals and Marion Biotech have also denied any wrongdoing.</p>

<p>Heuermann is the prime suspect in the murders that happened in Long Island between 1996 and 2011. He has been named by the police a "demon" and a "predator". The discovery of the giant vault came during the weekend investigation by the police as they dismantled the wooden deck of the suspected killer's house.</p>

<p>As per reports on Monday, a video showed the wrecked condition of the Heuermann's backyard as the police carried out its inquiry into the Gilgo Beach serial killings.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>An extensive search was carried out for the twelfth day on Tuesday. It included areas such as Heuermann's home, and his backyard, which was dug up with an excavator by the authorities. According to the officials, the search into the serial killings will almost definitely conclude by the end of this week.</p>

<p>Suffolk County Police began a search operation to locate Shannan Gilbert in 2010 after the 24-year-old sex worker vanished from New Jersey.</p>

<p>While the search continued, the Missing Persons Bureau's Officer John Mallia along with his trained cadaver dog 'Blue' accidentally found the remains of four women in their 20s. The police drew the conclusion that the women found near Gilgo Beach, Long Island were sex workers who used to advertise their services on Craigslist.</p>

<p>One report from NBC suggested that the bodies had a gap of about 500 feet in between them. Later, the bodies were identified as Amber Costello, Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and, Maureen Brainard-Barnes.</p>

<p>In another similar incident in 2015, a fifth woman's body, who was an escort, was discovered. AFP reports said that since 2010, at least 11 bodies, including three unidentified victims, have been found along the isolated stretch of the ocean beachfront on Long Island.</p>

<p>It is important to note that even though the police initially rejected that there was any link between the killings, they soon had a different opinion. Prosecutors concluded that the women are the victims of a serial killer, who would infamously come to be known as the Long Island Serial Killer, the Gilgo Beach Killer or the Craigslist Ripper.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Two police officers in Taiwan are under scrutiny as the duo sent a minor girl for a botched sting operation in order to nab Chang, the man who sexually assaulted her, media reports said. This comes as the man was convicted of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old teenage girl. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The girl met the man over an online app. Chang offered the girl NT$5,000 ($159) and threatened the teenager with her nude photos. He warned the girl that if she does not have sex with him, he would release her photos. Stuck in the situation, the girl approached the police. However, little did she know that she will be again pushed into a situation to face her assaulter.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Sting operation&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>In order to catch the man, the police asked the girl to carry out a sting operation. Instead of taking care of the safety of the girl, she was put on task to help the cops nab the man.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The undercover operation was carried out in the north-western city of Taoyuan in November 2020. After police asked the girl for being part of the plan, the teenager agreed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The reports said that the girl was promised by the police that her safety will be taken care of. As per the plan, the girl and Chang met at a McDonald's outlet.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The girl failed to follow the instructions given by the police officers by entering into Chang's car "suddenly".&nbsp;Later, the man drove the car just about 300m away. At this point, he forced her to perform oral sex.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The girl did what was told to her as she was fearful of the consequences if she did not concede to the man's demands.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per a police spokesperson, the two policemen tried to chase the car on foot but failed to catch up. When Chang drove the car back to the restaurant, he was arrested by the police.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Negligence charges</strong></h2>

<p>The two officers now face negligence charges. They have also issued an apology for their failure to give proper protection to the minor.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During the trial, the minor told Taoyuan District Court about what had happened during the sting operation. The court convicted Chang of sexual assault and he was sentenced to prison for eight years.</p>

<h2><strong>Officers investigated&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>The two officers from Zhongli precinct are now facing investigation for neglect of duty as public officials. Taoyuan-based lawyer Fan Kang-hsiang told media portal Focus Taiwan that the island nation has no law which approves police to recruit minors for undercover investigations.</p>

Two Taiwan policemen face probe for involving minor girl in sting operation, resulting in sexual assault

<p>An Indian married woman named Anju traveled legally to a remote village in Pakistan to meet her Facebook friend Nasrulla. However, Nasrulla has dismissed any romantic involvement between them and confirmed that Anju will return to India on August 20 when her visa expires, PTI news agency reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Anju is on a visit to Pakistan and we have no plan to marry," Narulla told PTI in a telephonic conversation from the district's Kulsho village. The village is about 300 kilometres from the Peshawar province. "She will go back to her country on August 20 after her visa expires," he said, adding Anju is living in a separate room of his home with the other female members of his family.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Anju visited the Upper Dir district of Pakistan's tribal Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on a valid Pakistani visa, specifically granted for Upper Dir. She has been residing in a separate room in Nasrulla's home.</p>

<p>Anju's visa is valid until August 20, after which she will return to India as per the official documents from the Ministry of Interior.</p>

<p>Nasrulla has provided an affidavit to the local authorities stating that there is no romantic involvement, and Anju will abide by the visa regulations.</p>

<p>The villagers, predominantly Pashtuns known for their religious values, wish for Anju's safe return to India.</p>

<p>They are concerned about any negative implications this incident might have on their community's reputation.</p>

<h2><strong>Anju's husband</strong></h2>

<p>Anju is married to Arvind, and they have a 15-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son. Arvind expressed hope that his wife would return home soon.</p>

<p>The South Korean prime minister's office stated, “We have confirmed that there are no suspicions of terrorism, as there were no terrorism threats, related intelligence, or casualties." It also added that in order to further delve into the matter, a joint investigation will take place involving Interpol and other overseas agencies, to ensure a comprehensive examination of the situation.</p>

<h2><strong>Suspicious parcel at a care centre</strong></h2>

<p>The first report of a suspicious parcel came from a care center for disabled individuals in the South Korean city of Ulsan. Three workers at the care centre were hospitalised with dizziness and breathing difficulties after opening a package.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Taiwan's Chunghwa Post, the island's postal agency, took swift action by suspending the receipt and delivery of stopover mail from Shenzhen.&nbsp;Additionally, they implemented various control and preventive measures to enhance cargo security. The use of stopover mail is common among Chinese online shopping malls as it reduces delivery costs compared to direct post service.</p>

<h2><strong>Nationwide alerts&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Following this incident, numerous reports of similar suspicious packages emerged throughout South Korea.&nbsp;In response, the South Korean government issued warnings to citizens, advising them not to open parcels unless the sender's identity is clearly displayed. In a separate incident at the Seoul Central Post Office, more than 1,700 people were temporarily evacuated after a suspicious parcel was found on the premises.</p>

<p>The ionosphere is a region where space begins, approximately 50 to 400 miles above the Earth's surface. It contains charged particles known as ions and plays a role in creating auroras (also known as the Northern Lights or Southern Lights, are mesmerising natural light displays that illuminate the night skies near the Earth's polar regions) during geomagnetic storms.</p>

<p>It's official: Twitter has been officially renamed to 'X' on Monday (July 24). This comes after the owner of the microblogging website Elon Musk announced on Sunday that the social media platform would undergo a transformation in its branding.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds," Musk had said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Musk bid farewell to its bird logo, the symbol that represented the platform for many years. According to media reports, Twitter's initial avian branding was a result of the company acquiring a stock symbol featuring a cheerful, light blue bird for a mere $15.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The website has&nbsp;now adopted a minimalist black background with a white X as the new logo.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On day two of the Monsoon session of the Indian Parliament, Indian External Minister Dr. S Jaishankar apprised the lower house Lok Sabha Friday that 87,026 Indians have given up their citizenship till June this year, reported PTI news agency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a written reply to Lok Sabha, the foreign minister said over 17,50,000&nbsp;people have renounced their Indian citizenship since 2011.&nbsp;Jaishankar laid out detailed data on the number of Indians who gave up their citizenship over the years since 2011.</p>

<p>He said 2,25,620 Indians renounced their citizenship in 2022, 1,63,370 in 2021, 85,256 in 2020, 1,44,017 in 2019, 1,34,561 in 2018, 1,33,049 in 2017, 1,41,603 in 2016, 1,31,489 in 2015, 1,29,328 in 2014, 1,31,405 in 2013, 1,20,923 in 2012 and 1,22,819 in 2011.</p>

<p>"The number of Indian nationals exploring the global workplace has been significant in the last two decades. Many of them have chosen to take up foreign citizenship for reasons of personal convenience," the minister said.&nbsp;</p>

"A successful, prosperous, and influential diaspora is an advantage for India and our approach is to tap diaspora networks and utilise its reputation for national gain," he said.&nbsp;</p>

Giving relief to the professionals, he said that now people will not have to travel abroad to renew their work visas.</p>

<p>"America's new consulates will be opened in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. It has now been decided that the H1B visa renewal can be done in the US itself," PM Modi said while addressing the Indian diaspora at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington DC.</p>

<p>India, under the leadership of prime minister Modi, has given an impetus to people-to-people connect and a deeper engagement with the Indian diaspora, placing it as one of the top priorities in India's foreign policy.</p>
