Hamas said on Saturday (Nov 25) that it was delaying the release of the second group of hostages under the ongoing four-day truce deal until Israel committed to allowing aid trucks to enter northern Gaza. In a statement, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades said the hostage releases would be delayed if Israel did not adhere to the agreed terms. Israel has not commented yet. Speaking to the news agency AFP, a Hamas source said the handover of 14 hostages to the Red Cross had begun, then said the transfer process had been halted. Egypt pushing for extension of truce Under the four-day truce deal between Israel and Hamas, a total of 50 hostages are to be exchanged for 150 Palestinian prisoners. On Friday, the first exchange happened on Friday where 24 hostages including Israelis and Thais were released in exchange for 39 Palestinian prisoners who were released from Israeli jails. In a statement, Egypt's State Information Service (SIS) chief Diaa Rashwan said that the group was holding extensive talks with all parties to reach an agreement which would mean "the release of more detainees in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails." Israel had earlier said the truce could be extended if Hamas continued to release hostages at a rate of at least 10 per day. Israeli ship targeted as fears of war spilling over escalate An Israeli ship came under attack by a suspected Iranian drone in the Indian Ocean on Friday as fears of the Israel-Hamas war spilling over are escalating. According to a report by the news agency Associated Press, a US defence official said the CMA CGM Symi was suspected to have been targeted by a triangle-shaped, bomb-carrying Shahed-136 drone while in international waters. The drone exploded, causing damage to the ship but not injuring any of its crew. “We continue to monitor the situation closely,” the official said and declined to elaborate on what intelligence the American military gathered to assess that Iran was behind the attack. Citing data from Marine Traffic, the report said that the ship had its Automatic Identification System (AIS) tracker switched off since Tuesday when it left Dubai’s Jebel Ali port. Ships are supposed to keep their AIS active for safety reasons, but crews will turn them off if it appears they might be targeted. Earlier too, the Symi switched off the AIS tracker when it was travelling through the Red Sea past Yemen. (With inputs from agencies)

The assembly election in the Indian state of Telangana will take place on November 30 to elect all 119 members of the legislative assembly. The results of this election will be declared on December 3.

The assembly election in the Indian state of Telangana will take place on November 30 to elect all 119 members of the legislative assembly. The results of this election will be declared on December 3. Some of the core issues in this election are employment creation, welfare schemes, and the farming sector. However, one core issue is the Madiga community, which has been demanding internal reservations within the Scheduled Caste (SC) category. On Friday (Nov 24), Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the Cabinet Secretary and other officials and instructed them to expedite the process of sub-categorisation in reservation for the Madigas, a report by the news agency ANI said. Also read: Telangana MP Prabhakar Reddy stabbed in stomach during rally Sources told ANI that Prime Minister Modi also ordered officials to expedite the committee formation for reservation to the community. Who are the Madigas? The Madiga community is a Telugu caste, mainly living in the southern states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. However, Madigas also live in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Odisha. The community has historically worked in handicraft, leatherwork, tannery, and agriculture. But over the years, Madigas have also taken up roles in the world of politics, government services, and education. The Indian government categorises the community within the SC category. There are various sub-castes within Madigas. As per the 2011 census, the Madiga community in the undivided Andhra Pradesh (before the creation of Telangana in 2014) constituted more than 48 per cent of the SC population. The formation of the MRPS and its demands With an aim to implement internal reservation within the SCs, the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) was established in July 1994 in Edumudi village, Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, under the leadership of Manda Krishna Madiga and others. The MRPS is one of the biggest constituents of scheduled castes in Telugu states. It has held several protests, and mass rallies to publicise the demand for sub-classification within SC. Also read: Indian minister KTR Rao, others fall down from vehicle during election rally in Telangana According to a report by The Wire, the MRPS has been pushing for what is called the ‘rationalisation of reservations’, or ‘categorisation’, to make sure that each Dalit group gets to benefit from reservations commensurate with their population in their respective states. For over 30 years, the MRPS has been demanding sub-categorisation of reservations for the SC communities. Since 2013, Prime Minister Modi has closely interacted with Manda Krishna Madiga. Following a meeting with Madiga, PM Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its 2014 manifesto promised internal reservations, ANI reported. Ahead of Telangana poll, BJP's move to woo Madigas Weeks before the assembly election in Telangana, Prime Minister Modi addressed a rally in Secunderabad on Nov 11 which was organised by the MRPS. During the rally, Modi said that the central government would soon form a committee that would adopt all possible ways to empower the Madiga community. Modi said the committee would address the categorisation of SCs. Modi was seen consoling Krishna Madiga at the rally and said, "I have not come here to seek anything from you. I have come here to apologise for all the political parties which deceived you after Independence." "The BJP made the laws about the atrocities on SCs and STs stricter. We ensured that the poor got a bank account, a gas connection, toilets, homes, etc. In all these schemes, the people from SC, ST and OBC were given the most benefit," he added. "You (people) have seen a lot of governments in the country. Our government's highest priority is to give preference to those who are deprived. BJP's mantra is Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas," he also said during the rally. (With inputs from agencies)

Adesanya to Fight Pereira in UFC 298? Ex-Champ Teases Return to Octagon

Former UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who has taken a break from fighting, shared a post on Instagram saying he would be fighting his arch-rival and current Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira at UFC 298 in mid-February.
The post comes days after Pereira called out Adesanya after winning his Light Heavyweight title. "Adesanya, come to daddy," he said.

A Third MMA Fight with Pereira on the Cards?

The seven-year rivalry between Adesanya and Pereira goes back to when both were professional kickboxers and did not transition into MMA or the UFC.
In the UFC, Adesanya fought Pereira twice- first losing the Middleweight title to the Brazilian and then winning it back. However, Adesanya lost to Sean Strickland and was stripped of his belt.

No official announcement on Pereira's title defence yet

The UFC has not made any official announcement about whether a third fight between Adesanya and Pereira would happen, and that too in the Light Heavyweight division.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Friday (Nov 24) that the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine risked lasting until 2030 if peace talks did not start. Addressing a press conference in Prague after meeting his Czech counterpart Petr Fiala, Prime Minister Fico said, "This conflict is frozen, it is in a state wherein it may last until 2029 or 2030."

"It is better to lead talks for 10 years in peace or with suspended combat operations than to go to the negotiations table after 10 years without any result, only to find out that we have another 500 or 600 thousand dead," he added.

Fico won Slovakia's parliamentary election in September. During the election campaign, he pledged to discontinue the military aid given to Ukraine by previous governments. Before he came to power, Slovakia sent military aid in 13 packages worth $718.24 million to Ukraine.

However, Fico's three-party cabinet comprising far-right ministers has already blocked a $44-million military aid package to Ukraine planned by the previous administration.

Fico pointed out that although Slovakia would not provide Ukraine with further military aid, it would not object to others offering it. "If the Czech Republic or any other country in the world or Europe decides to provide Ukraine with military aid, we won't condemn anyone," he said during the joining press conference with Czech PM Fiala.

"I am convinced it still makes sense because Ukraine needs our help for its courageous struggle," Fiala told reporters.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on Thursday (Nov 23) that more children in the country were sickened by apple puree pouches that were recently recalled due to lead contamination. According to a report by the news agency Associated Press, the FDA received 52 reports of elevated lead levels among children who reportedly consumed the product, up from 34 cases reported last week.

The cases are spread across 22 states and involve children between the ages of 1 to 4, the FDA said in an update. The puree pouches were marketed under these brands: WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree and Schnucks and Weis cinnamon applesauce pouches.

The report said that these products were sold by national grocery chains, including Dollar Tree, and online retailers such as Amazon.

On Thursday, the FDA said that it was still working with Dollar Tree to get the recalled products off of shelves in several states.

“This product should not be available for sale and consumers should not purchase or consume this product,” the agency further said and advised parents to dispose of the pouches by emptying the contents into the trash and discarding the packaging.

Exposure to lead can lead to serious learning, cognitive and behavioural problems. The American Academy of Pediatrics, meanwhile, has said that heavy metals like lead can get into food products from soil, air, water or industrial processes.

Nearly a week back, the FDA announced it was screening imports of cinnamon from multiple countries for toxic lead contamination as children were falling sick after consuming apple puree and apple sauce pouches.

The FDA said that cinnamon from a manufacturer in Ecuador was the likely source of high levels of lead found in recalled pouches linked to illnesses in the 34 cases earlier reported.

Officials told the Associated Press that one pouch of WanaBana apple cinnamon puree collected from a Dollar Tree store was found to have lead levels more than 200 times higher than proposed FDA guidance would allow.

The Irish Police said on Friday (Nov 24) that they made 34 arrests for rioting in Dublin, adding more protests could follow after five people, including three children, were stabbed in the capital city.

The Irish Police said on Friday (Nov 24) that they made 34 arrests for rioting in Dublin, adding more protests could follow after five people, including three children, were stabbed in the capital city. According to a report by the news agency Reuters, police guarded looted stores and firefighters cooled down smouldering vehicles in the City Centre early Friday following hours of riots. Police Commissioner Drew Harris said there will be many more arrests. "We have not seen a public order situation like this before," Commissioner Harris told reporters, adding there would be a very heavy police presence in the city on Friday. "I think that we've seen an element of radicalisation. We have seen a group of people who take literally a thimble full of facts and make a bathtub of hateful assumptions and then conduct themselves in a way which is riotous and disruptive to our society," Harris added. The stabbing On Thursday, five people, including three children - two girls aged five and six and a boy aged five- were hospitalised, following a stabbing in the city centre. The adults were a man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s. The other two children suffered less serious injuries and the boy was discharged from the hospital. The woman and the man were also being treated for serious injuries. Reuters reported the man was arrested by police who said they were not looking for any other suspect. The man's nationality was not yet known. It appeared the man attacked many people after 13.30 GMT Thursday. Police sealed the crime scene shortly before 1800 GMT when a group of around 50 anti-immigrant protesters briefly broke through a police barrier. Some shouted "Get them out" and one kicked the wing mirror off a police car. Another was draped in an Irish flag. A larger crowd then began throwing objects and firing fireworks at riot police in helmets and shields, once they were deployed, and the rioting spiralled out of control. Rioters brought shame on Ireland: PM Varadkar Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said on Friday that the rioters who battled police and looted shops in Dublin brought shame to the country. Describing the rioters as "criminals," Varadkar said, "Those involved brought shame on Dublin, brought shame on Ireland and brought shame on their families and themselves. "They did not do what they did because they wanted to protect Irish people. They did not do it out of any sense of patriotism, however warped. "They did so because they're filled with hate. They love violence. They love chaos and they love causing pain to others," he added. (With inputs from agencies)
