On Thursday (Sept 7), CNN shared an excerpt from the upcoming biography book ‘Elon Musk’, in which Musk told author Walter Isaacson that he ordered the Starlink engineers to cut off the satellite internet access after he found that Ukraine was planning to launch drone attacks on Russian fleet off the coast of Crimea last year.

He said that the drones “lost connectivity and washed ashore harmlessly”. The book is scheduled to be released on Tuesday.

Musk expressed concern over being unnecessarily dragged into the war, saying that allowing Ukrainians to launch an attack could invite nuclear retaliation from the Russians.

“By not allowing Ukrainian drones to destroy part of the Russian fleet via Starlink interference,&nbsp;Elon Musk allowed this fleet to fire Kalibr missiles at Ukrainian cities. As a result, civilians, and children are being killed,” Podolyak wrote.

“Why do some people so desperately want to defend war criminals and their desire to commit murder? And do they now realise that they are committing evil and encouraging evil?”

After a user, Mario Nawfal — a self-described combination of entrepreneur, business influencer and “citizen journalist” — shared the excerpts from the book on social media platform X, Musk said that had he acceded&nbsp;to the Ukrainian government’s request, SpaceX would have faced retaliation.

“There was an emergency request from government authorities to activate Starlink all the way to Sevastopol. The obvious intent being to sink most of the Russian fleet at anchor. If I had agreed to their request, then SpaceX would be explicitly complicit in a major act of war and conflict escalation,” he said in response to the post on X.

More than 20,000 Starlink terminals were donated by Musk to Ukraine after Russia destroyed much of the country’s infrastructure at the beginning of the war in February 2022.

Last October, Musk wrote to the Pentagon to say that it could no longer afford to continue funding the service and asked the Biden administration to cover the cost, which he estimated to be in hundreds of millions of dollars, CNN revealed at the time.

Pakistan’s former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who is currently in self-imposed exile in London since 2019, is all set to return to the capital Islamabad city in October this year.

Nawaz made the announcement on Friday (Sept 8) during his meeting with his party workers and supporters at Stanhope House, London, Geo TV reported quoting sources present there.

Nawaz, who is the brother of ex-PM Shebaz Sharif, left Pakistan citing health reasons.

The supremo of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was serving a seven-year jail term in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail when the high court allowed him to leave the country on medical grounds in November 2019.

Though it is confirmed that he will be in Pakistan next month, the exact date of his arrival is still unknown.

<h2>'Nawaz will face the law'</h2>

“Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan in October and lead the election campaign and this has been decided after the PML-N party consultations,” Shehbaz reportedly said during the meeting as Nawaz stood next to him, reports Geo TV.

Shehbaz went on to say that Nawaz would face the law of the land when he is back in Pakistan.

The three-time PM was disqualified by the Supreme Court in 2017 on the Panama Papers case. The PML-N has repeatedly contested that Nawaz was unjustly disqualified.

The PML-N party members have repeatedly indicated that Nawaz would contest for the premiership when the country goes to poll later this year.

<h2>Election postponed </h2>

Initially expected to be held in October, there are chances that the election commission would announce the poll dates in early 2024.

The poll body had ruled out elections this year, while the 90-day limit for holding polls following the dissolution of the National Assembly (NA), as mandated under Article 224 of the Constitution, ends on November 9.

It cited the delimitation exercise that is to be carried out later in the year as the prime reason for postponing the election.

Ex-PM Nawaz Sharif to return to Pakistan in October: Report

As New Delhi gears up to host leaders from the leaders from G20 nations, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be hosting a private dinner for US President Joe Biden on Friday (Sept 8) evening.

Biden has already departed for India to attend the high-stakes G20 Leaders’ Summit. Hours before emplaning the flight to New Delhi, Biden said, “I’m headed to the G20 – the premier forum for international economic cooperation – focused on making progress on Americans' priorities, delivering for developing nations, and showing our commitment to the G20 as a forum that can deliver."

Following the private dinner, both leaders are expected to hold a bilateral meeting to discuss a range of key geo-political developments.

Among the discussions to be held between both leaders are nuclear energy, defence, visas, consulates, and the Russia-Ukraine war.

“The White House expects to see meaningful progress on GE jet engines and civil nuclear technology in upcoming bilateral talks between US President Joe Biden and India Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters on Thursday.

Earlier this year, the aerospace unit of General Electric (GE) announced it had signed an agreement with India's state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics to jointly make engines in India to power fighter jets for the Indian Air Force.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Biden-Modi meeting, India has formally put out a request to the US government to purchase 31 MQ9B ‘killer’ Reaper drones. The agreement is expected to be finalised this year.

According to the Times of India (TOI) newspaper, quoting&nbsp;sources, “a few days ago”&nbsp;the Indian defence ministry sent a detailed LoR (letter of request) to the US for the 31 ‘hunter-killer’ remotely-piloted aircraft systems, along with their weapons packages, mobile ground control systems and other equipment.

The US government is expected to respond with the LoA (letter of offer and acceptance), with the costing and the requisite notification to the US Congress under its foreign military sales (FMS) programme, “within a month or two”, the sources told TOI.

It will be a litmus test for the INDIA alliance—a coalition of 26 regional and national parties that was formed to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The results of Friday’s bypolls would give a sense of which the voters are leaning ahead of the general elections, where Modi will seek to retain his third term.

Across&nbsp;six states, seven seats saw tough between the parties on Sept 5. These are: Bageshwar in Uttarakhand, Ghosi in Uttar Pradesh, Puthuppally in Kerala, Dhupguri in West Bengal, Dumri in Jharkhand, and Boxanagar and Dhanpur in Tripura.

<h2>Security tightened, counting underway</h2>

Out of the seven seats, three (Dhanpur, Bageshwar and Dhupguri) were held by the BJP and one each by the Samajwadi Party (Ghosi), CPI(M) (Boxanagar), JMM (Dumri) and the Congress (Puthuppally).

In the Ghosi constituency, the polling percentage was recorded at 50.77 per cent and in Jharkhand's Dumri a total of 64.84 per cent voter turnout was recorded.

The Ghosi seat fell vacant after the resignation of SP MLA and OBC leader Dara Singh Chauhan, who rejoined the BJP.

For the Bageshwar assembly bypoll in Uttarakhand, the counting will be done at 14 tables with 130 polling personnel on the job, District Magistrate Anuradha Pal said on Thursday.

In Tripura, the counting of votes began at 8 am on Friday for the by-elections to the two assembly seats in Sepahijala district.

Starlink CEO Elon Musk reportedly tried to shut down Ukrainian access to its satellite communications network when Kyiv's forces were attempting to attack the Russian fleet off the Crimea coast last year, according to an excerpt from a biography written by Walter Isaacson titled Elon Musk.

Musk told the biographer that he was worried about being dragged into the war and ordered engineers to turn off the satellites as he feared that the attack would amount to “mini Pearl Harbor” and lead to a Russian nuclear retaliation.

According to the book, which is set to be released next week, after Musk disconnected the satellites, Ukrainian drones “lost connectivity and washed ashore harmlessly”, reported CNN.

“How am I in this war?” Musk told the writer, who has previously published biographies of Steve Jobs and Henry Kissinger.

“Starlink was not meant to be involved in wars. It was so people can watch Netflix and chill and get online for school and do good peaceful things, not drone strikes.”

For the first time, Chinese scientists have grown humanised kidneys, which have human cells,&nbsp;in pigs in a major breakthrough that could one day help in organ donation shortages.

The experiment entailed creating human-pig chimeric embryos containing a combination of human and pig cells and then transferring into surrogate pig mothers.

The study was published on Thursday (Sept 7) in the journal called ‘Cell Stem Cell’.

According to scientists, the kidneys were not entirely human as they included vasculature and nerves made mostly from pig cells, meaning they could not be used for transplantation in their current form.

It is unclear whether one could make a wholly human organ with current genetic engineering techniques.

<h2>Major breakthrough&nbsp;</h2>

The researchers from the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health said their focus was solely on growing kidneys as they are the most commonly transplanted in human medicine.

"Rat organs have been produced in mice, and mouse organs have been produced in rats, but previous attempts to grow human organs in pigs have not succeeded," said the senior author Liangxue Lai, of the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and&nbsp;Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Wuyi University.

"Our approach improves the integration of human cells into recipient tissues and allows us to grow human organs in pigs."

Another reason this scientific breakthrough is being hailed because previous attempts at developing human-pig hybrids have failed because pig cells tend to outcompete human cells during development, meaning the resultant chimera is almost entirely pig, according to Guardian.

<h2>Need more research&nbsp;</h2>

The Chinese scientists overcame this hurdle by genetically engineering a single-cell pig embryo so that it lacked two genes needed for kidney development.

Archaeologists in Jerusalem have unearthed an ancient site where the Biblical records show that Jesus Christ healed a blind man.

The discovery is significant since the Pool of Siloam was not seen in public for nearly 2,000 years, around the time when Jesus was present.

It came to light during an excavation work carried out in the ancient city by the Israel Antiquities Authority, the Israel National Parks Authority, and the City of David Foundation.

The authorities have announced that Pool of Siloam, a cherished holy site by Christians and Jews, will be open to the public for the first time in the near future.

“The ongoing excavations within the City of David — the historic site of Biblical Jerusalem — particularly of the Pool of Siloam and the Pilgrimage Road, serve as one of the greatest affirmations of that heritage and the millennia-old bond Jews and Christians have with Jerusalem," Ze’ev Orenstein, director of International Affairs - City of David Foundation, told Fox News Digital.

"Not simply as a matter of faith, but as a matter of fact," he added.

<h2>Built around 2,700 years ago</h2>

Pool of Siloam was built reportedly around 2,700 years ago in the eighth century BC under the reign of King Hezekiah as part of Jerusalem's water system, according to the&nbsp;Biblical Archaeology Society.

The workers built the 1,750-foot tunnel under the City of David to bring water from the Gihon Spring.

According to estimates, the Pool of Siloam passed through many stages of construction and reached the size of 1.25 acres.

According to a passage in the Gospel of John, Jesus restored the sight of a man born blind at the Pool of Siloam.

<h2>Significant site on planet&nbsp;&nbsp;</h2>

Orenstein said that the site, which runs from the Pool of Siloam in the south along the Pilgrimage Road and up to the footsteps of the Western Wall, Southern Steps, and Temple Mount, represents the most significant half-mile on the planet.

“There is no half mile that means more to more people that affirms Jerusalem’s biblical heritage not simply as a matter of faith, but as a matter of fact,” he said.

“And obviously living in a time where so much of biblical heritage is being questioned — to be able to be unearthing all of this historical heritage and antiquity that shows that whether for Jews or Christians, that you could see it, you could touch it, you could walk on it, that really our heritage in Jerusalem going back thousands of years, not simply a matter of faith, but a matter of fact, being unearthed here in the city of David,” he added.

Viral video shows Pak Taliban chief giving orders to terrorists involved in attack on check post

Mexico is all set to get its first female president as the country’s ruling party chose Claudia Sheinbaum as its candidate for next year’s presidential election.

The 61-year-old former Mexico City mayor is considered a close ally of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who won’t be able to get re-elected again.

She has been tipped to be the favourite among the candidates to helm the top post according to a national poll organised by the ruling leftist National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) party.

“Today the Mexican people decided,” a smiling Sheinbaum told supporters to shouts of “president, president, president,” at a press conference where she was declared MORENA candidate, according to Reuters news agency.

“We will win in 2024,” Sheinbaum, a&nbsp;climate scientist-turned-politician, said.

The major opposition coalition had already chosen another woman, Xóchitl Gálvez, a sitting senator in the Mexican Congress, as its standard-bearer.

Now, two women — Sheinbaum, a physicist and former university professor, and Gálvez, 60, a successful tech entrepreneur — are set to face off in an election scheduled for June 2 next year.

<h2>Internal poll compromised?</h2>

The nomination from MORENA came on Wednesday amidst a blow-up inside the party after Sheinbaum’s competitor Marcelo Ebrard alleged “faults” in the primary process even before final results were announced.

The former foreign minister sought a rerun of the internal polling which handed Sheinbaum her victory.&nbsp;“I never thought I would live [to see] something like this in my own party,” Ebrard wrote on social media platform X.

But party leaders were quick to defend the process.

"There is no incident that has affected the final result in a definitive manner," said Alfonso Durazo, president of Morena's national board, according to the AFP news agency.

"The result of this process is definitive."

The major opposition coalition had already chosen another woman, Xóchitl Gálvez, a sitting senator in the Mexican Congress, as its standard-bearer. Now, two women — Sheinbaum, a physicist and former university professor, and Gálvez, 60, a successful tech entrepreneur — are set to face off in an election scheduled for June 2 next year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (Sept 7) declared that the 21st century belongs to Asia and stressed that the ASEAN bloc is the central pillar of India’s Act East Policy, and plays a key role in India's&nbsp;Indo-Pacific initiative.

Speaking at the 20th&nbsp;Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-India summit in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta, Modi spoke of this year’s theme ‘ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth’, and emphasised&nbsp;that the region plays an important role in global growth.

“This year's theme is ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth. ASEAN matters because here everyone's voice is heard and ASEAN is the epicentre of growth because ASEAN plays an important role in global growth..."

He also highlighted that building a “rule-based world order” after the pandemic was essential going forward.

<h2>'A matter of pride'</h2>

The Indian prime minister said that it was a matter of pride for him to co-chair the ASEAN-India Summit while highlighting India-Indonesia partnership is entering its fourth decade.

“Our history and geography unite India and ASEAN. Along with it, our shared values, regional integration, and our shared belief in peace, prosperity and a multipolar world also unite us. ASEAN is the central pillar of India's Act East Policy. India supports ASEAN's outlook on ASEAN-India centrality and Indo-Pacific,” said the prime minister.

“Even in an environment of global uncertainties, our mutual cooperation is making steady progress. This is a testimony to the strength and resilience of our ties. 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' — One Earth, One Family, One Future — is the theme of India's G20 presidency," PM Modi said.
