US investor Ray Dalio has said that India is right now where China was in 1984—when Beijing shifted to an open-door economic policy that ushered in a period of high economic growth—as he offered his bullish outlook on the South Asian giant's economic potential.

Speaking at the All-In Summit 2023 at Royce Hall on University of California's campus in Los Angeles, Dalio—the founder of Bridgewater Associates—also likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Chinese revolutionary leader Deng Xiaoping, who is credited with making China “the world’s factory”.

“We have 10-year growth rate estimates for India and the top 20 countries of the world. India has the highest potential growth rate. I think India is where China was when I started to go in 1984,” he said.

“So, if you look at the complexion of per capita income, I think Narendra Modi is a Deng Xiaoping. So that you have a massive reform, development creativity, all those developments. India is very important. I don't think any of the issues is going to stop India.”

For Jaime Maussan, a Mexican journalist and longtime UFO enthusiast, they are one of the most important discoveries in the history of humankind.

But for many scientists these two tiny mummified bodies with elongated heads and three fingers on each hand, images of which were beamed around the world this week when they were&nbsp;presented to Mexico's Congress, are an already-debunked - perhaps criminal -&nbsp;stunt.

At Maussan's office, in the Mexico City business district of Santa Fe, staff members carefully carry the two closed boxes with glass lids containing the bodies into a green-screened studio, where Reuters had exclusive access on Friday.

Everyone huddles around to get a better look. The bodies appear ancient and share characteristics with humans: two eyes, a mouth, two arms, two legs. Maussan claims they were found around 2017 in Peru, near the pre-Columbian Nazca Lines.

He says he can prove they are unlike anything known on Earth. On social media and in the hearing, he shared scientific analysis and study results he argues proves the bodies are about 1,000 years old and not related to any known Earthly species.

One of them, described by Maussan as a female, was discovered to have eggs inside, he said.

"It is the most important thing that has happened to humanity," Maussan, 70, said of his crusade to bring awareness to the findings, sitting in his office that is heavily decorated with colorful alien-themed artwork and paraphernalia.

"I believe that this phenomenon is the only one that gives us the opportunity to unite," he added.

Elsa Tomasto-Cagigao, a respected Peruvian bio-anthropologist, is frustrated such claims are still being given publicity, citing similar alleged finds that were found to be frauds.

"What we said before still stands, they are presenting the same rehash as always and if there are people that keep believing that, what can we do?," she said by phone. "It is so crass and so simple that there is nothing more to add."

Previous such finds have been dismissed by the scientific community as mutilated mummies of pre-Hispanic children, sometimes combined with bits of animal parts.

David Spergel, former head of Princeton University's astrophysics department and chair of a NASA report into unidentified anomalous phenomena, said on Thursday that such samples should be made available for testing by the world's scientific community.

<h2>Testing conundrum</h2>

Maussan shared on social media and in his presentation the results of DNA and carbon dating tests that he said he commissioned on "the beings."

A Mexican scientist, at the request of Reuters, reviewed the results and concluded they indicated normal life on Earth.

Maussan told Reuters on Friday that the test results were not directly related to the two bodies that he showed Congress this week, however. In fact, he said, they were conducted on an entirely different body, known as Victoria, that remains in Peru.

"They were found in the same place. They have the same physical appearance, they are the same," Maussan said of Victoria and the two bodies he presented in Mexico. Testing was not done on those two bodies in order to avoid damaging them, he said.

Maussan is no stranger to controversy. He has made claims about other remains in the past that have been widely criticized. He participated in a 2017 TV documentary about other remains found near the Nazca Lines, which experts like Tomasto-Cagigao and paleontologist Rodolfo Salas-Gismondi have said appeared to feature doctored mummies.

Now, he has angered Peruvian officials.

Peruvian Culture Minister Leslie Urteaga has questioned how the specimens, which she said were pre-Hispanic objects, left Peru and says a criminal complaint has been filed.

"I'm not worried. I have done absolutely nothing illegal," Maussan said.

How the bodies arrived in Mexico is a question he says he cannot answer. Borrowed by Maussan for the hearing, they are in the possession of a Mexican man, who was in Maussan's office on Friday and who declined to be identified.

When asked how the bodies - whom he called Clara and Mauricio - came to be in his possession, the man replied only that he would reveal all "at the appropriate time."

Jose de Jesus Zalce Benitez, Director of the Health Sciences Research Institute of the Secretary of the Navy, participated in the congressional hearing, bolstering Maussan's claims. Now joining him at his office, he calmly explained his interpretation of the science.

"Based on the DNA tests, which were compared with more than one million species ... they are not related to what is known or described up to this moment by science or by human knowledge," he said.

Julieta Fierro, the scientist at Mexico's National Autonomous University's (UNAM) Institute of Astronomy who reviewed Maussan's test results for Reuters, sees far less mystery in the data.

She said that the presence of carbon-14 in studies done by UNAM proves that the samples were related to brain and skin tissues from different mummies who died at different times.

The proportion of the radioactive carbon-14 isotope that is absorbed by living organisms into their tissue decays over time, which allows scientists to determine the approximate year of death of the specimen.

On other planets, the amount of carbon-14 in their atmospheres would not necessarily be the same as on Earth, she said.

All in all, the results "do not show anything mysterious that could indicate life compounds that do not exist on Earth," Fierro said.

China on Friday sanctioned two US defence companies— Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman—for supplying arms to Taiwan.

In a press conference, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that the punitive measures are being taken under the country's Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law.

"We urge the US side to effectively abide by the one-China principle... cease US-Taiwan military liaison and stop arming Taiwan, or else it will be subject to a resolute and forceful retaliation by the Chinese side," she said.

The spokesperson named Lockheed Martin Corp's branch in Missouri as the prime contractor claiming that it sold arms to Taiwan on August 24, and added that Northrop Grumman repeatedly participated in the sale of weapons to Taipei.

One way the lightning is monitored on Earth is by detecting naturally occurring radio waves that are emitted by lightning.

In the past when the Cassini Probe and Parker Solar Probe probed the "lightning" on Venus while flying past the planet, neither of them detected radio signals.

<h2>Flashes of light are in fact meteors&nbsp;</h2>

The researchers at Arizona State University counted the number of flashes observed at both the Steward Observatory and Japan's Akatsuki orbiter.

An estimated 10,000 to 100,000 flashes were observed per year, with researchers concluding that they resemble potential meteor strikes, according to Phys.org.

Additionally, since Venus has sulfuric acid clouds instead of water vapour, which may not even be capable of producing lightning, scientists argued that these factors could indicate that the frequent flashes aren't lightning at all.

“We’re probably going to have either Trump or Biden as our next president. And Biden is unable to lead on important matters and Trump is unwilling to lead on important matters,” he told the Washington Post.

Romney, an outspoken critic of Donald Trump, is the only Republican who voted against the former president in his 2020 impeachment trial. He was also one of several Republican senators who voted in favour of impeachment during the second trial following the Jan&nbsp;6 attack on the US Capitol.

"There's no question the Republican Party today is in the shadow of Donald Trump. He is the leader of the greatest portion of the Republican Party," Romney said. "I represent a small wing of the Republican Party. If you will, I call it the wise wing of the Republican Party and I don't believe we're going away."

Earth is increasingly becoming&nbsp;uninhabitable&nbsp;for humans, a new study has warned saying that the blue planet is at risk of generating large-scale abrupt or irreversible environmental changes due to human activity.

According to a study published in Science Advances journal, six out of nine planetary boundaries have been breached due to human-caused pollution and destruction of the natural world.

The planetary boundaries are a set of framework designed by scientists within which humanity can continue to develop and thrive for generations to come.

These nine planetary boundaries were first proposed by a group of 29 internationally renowned scientists in 2009.

The nine planetary boundaries are:

	<li>Ocean acidification</li>
	<li>Stratospheric ozone depletion</li>
	<li>Atmospheric aerosol loading</li>

	<li>The introduction of novel entities such as synthetic chemicals and nuclear waste.</li>
	<li>Biogeochemical flows such as the movement of nitrogen through global element cycles.</li>
</ul>

Of these, six boundaries have been transgressed.&nbsp;They are&nbsp;biosphere integrity, climate change, freshwater changes, land system change, the introduction of novel entities such as synthetic chemicals and nuclear waste, biogeochemical flows such as the movement of nitrogen through global element cycles.

"We are in very bad shape," said study co-author Johan Rockstrom, director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany.

"We show in this analysis that the planet is losing resilience and the patient is sick."

On Wednesday (Sept 13), the scientists of the study said that they had updated the list from 2015, and added a sixth factor to the unsafe category.

Rockstrom said that water went from "barely safe" to the "out-of-bounds" category because of worsening river run-off, better measurements and understanding of the problem.

These boundaries "determine the fate of the planet", he said, adding that nine factors have been "scientifically well established" by numerous outside studies.

"If Earth can manage these nine factors, Earth could be relatively safe. But it's not," he said.

He said that the failing resilience could make it impossible to reach the 1.5C climate goal and could bring the world closer to real tipping points.

The research, which was based on 2,000 studies, indicated that several planetary boundaries were passed long ago.

"This update finds that six of the nine boundaries are transgressed, suggesting that Earth is now well outside of the safe operating space for humanity,” the scientists said.

On Tuesday (Sept 13), two corpses believed to be of “non-human” alien species were displayed in the Congress during the public hearing. It was claimed that these corpses are at least 1,000 years old. 
 
Among the attendees was Ryan Graves, a former US Navy pilot and Executive Director of Americans for Safe Aerospace, who claimed to have encountered such sightings during his flights.

These mummified specimens were kept in windowed boxes for all to see. They were allegedly retrieved from Cusco, Peru.

He claimed that the UFO specimens were recently studied at the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM), where scientists analysed DNA evidence using radiocarbon dating.

"These specimens are not part of our terrestrial evolution...These aren't beings that were found after a UFO wreckage. They were found in diatom (algae) mines and were later fossilised," Maussan told attendees, according to a Spanish news outlet, Marca.

During the event, noted professor Abraham&nbsp;Avi&nbsp;Loeb, director of the Harvard Astronomy Department and author of the Oumuamua theory, via video call, urged the Mexican government to allow national scientists to study the possibilities of alien existence. 
 
However, after reports of the public hearing, some scholars referred back to&nbsp;Maussan earlier similar claims at an event in 2015, and the ‘discovery’ was later debunked, and the mummy was revealed to be the remains of a human child.

An Australian multi-millionaire stoked a controversy after he called for unemployment to increase to put the “arrogant” workers in their place.

While speaking at the Australian Financial Review’s (AFP) Property Summit on Tuesday (Sept 12), the 41-year-old gym trainer-owner-real estate mogul, Tim Gurner, said that the Covid pandemic brought down the productivity level as “people decided they didn't really want to work so much”.

Gurner further claimed that the change in productivity has negatively impacted&nbsp;the real estate sector&nbsp;which, along with tougher regulations, is contributing to a housing shortage in Australia.

The businessman then went on to propose that the country’s unemployment rate should rise by 40-50 per cent from the current rate of 3.7 per cent to bring down the "arrogance in the employment market", which means that more than 200,000 people could lose their jobs.

“We need to see the pain in the economy,” Gurner said, taking aim at the post-Covid work rates of construction labourers,

Labor Party MP Jerome Laxale said they were "comments you'd associate with a cartoon supervillain", while Liberal MP Keith Wolahan said they "could not be more out of touch".

"The loss of a job is not a number. It sees people on the streets and dependent upon food banks," Wolahan told the AFR.

US lawmaker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also slammed the property mogul.

"Reminder that major CEOs have skyrocketed their own pay so much that the ratio of CEO-to-worker pay is now at some of the highest levels ever recorded," she wrote on X.

But there were others who concurred with Gurner, saying that the employees have become lax, and weren’t putting much effort as earlier.

"Employees have got used to earning the same amount of money but not putting in the same hours," Minerals Council of Australia chairman Andrew Michelmore told the AFR.
