The International Cricket Council (ICC) has named two veteran players from the Indian women's cricket team in the ODI Team of the Year for 2021, on Thursday (January 20). Heather Knight has been selected as the team's captain.

However, no Indian were named in the ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year for 2021, which is led by Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Also, it was the first time since 2004 no Indian player made the Men's ODI team of the year.&nbsp;

As part of the ICC Women's T20I Team of the Year for 2021, Smriti Mandhana was named the lone Indian.

In fact, Mithali Raj, the Indian captain and veteran batsman, compiled the same number of runs and finished with the exact average as Beaumont. However, the player didn't score a century this year but managed to shine with as many as six half-centuries.Her runs came when India were in dire straits, making her contribution even more significant.

Jhulan, on the other hand, continues to prove herself as a formidable opponent. The veteran player claimed 15 wickets in 2021 and maintained an impressive economy rate of 3.77. A source close to the development was quoted as saying by India Ahead News, "And the board president was all for issuing a show cause notice to Kohli."

It would have been an unprecedented move had Ganguly gone ahead with the show cause notice. For now, the BCCI vs Kohli row has died down, however, tension remains between the board and the former Indian captain.

Post the India-SA Tests, in the rainbow nation, Kohli also stepped down as the Test captain. He had even called the BCCI secretary Jay Shah to inform about his decision, however, didn't bother calling Ganguly (as per reports).&nbsp;

Sharing his decision, on January 15, Kohli had&nbsp;tweeted saying, "Everything has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as Test captain of India, it’s now. It’s been 7 years of hard work, toil and relentless perseverance every day to take the team in the right direction. I’ve done the job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there. Everything has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as Test Captain of India, it’s now."

Nonetheless, Pant couldn't do anything significant as he was brilliantly stumped by his counterpart Quinton de Kock. "We played close to a perfect game, that's quite hard in 50-over cricket. We can take a lot of confidence. I struggled throughout the innings, Rassie seemed like batting on another wicket. Reviewing India's performance in the ODI series opener, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt feels the energy that Kohli brought on the field as captain was entirely missing under KL Rahul. For the unversed, Rahul is captaining the side in the absence of limited-overs skipper Rohit Sharma (out due to hamstring injury).

Manchester United rode their luck before burying luckless Brentford with a second-half goal blitz to claim a 3-1 away victory on Wednesday and boost their challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

A United win did not look likely as Brentford dominated the first half but the visitors were clinical after the break with goals by Anthony Elanga, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford securing a flattering victory.

Brentford should have been comfortably ahead by halftime but spurned numerous chances with Mathias Jensen twice denied by the outstretched leg of United keeper David De Gea.

Several other opportunities went begging and they were made to pay for their profligacy when Elanga nodded United in front in the 55th minute and Greenwood tapped in after a counter-attack before substitute Rashford rifled in his side`s third in the 77th minute to deflate Brentford.

Ivan Toney pulled a goal back from close range with five minutes remaining but it was scant consolation for the hosts who slumped to a third successive defeat.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned to United`s starting line-up after recovering from injury but was subdued and reacted angrily after being substituted in the second half.

United remained in seventh spot but moved level on 35 points with sixth-placed Arsenal and are only two behind West Ham United who occupy fourth.

"First half was not good in all aspects of the game," United manager Ralf Rangnick said. "In the second half we were more urgent, attacking higher up the pitch and taking the right decisions in the counter attack and we scored, which is the big difference." 
Home manager Thomas Frank, whose side are 14th and 10 points above the bottom three, was baffled at the outcome.

"We destroyed them in the first half, they didn`t have a sniff, three huge chances and there could only have been one winner of this game," he said. 
"They are unbelievably lucky. Our intensity killed them."
