<p>Podolyak made the assessment in the backdrop of US lawmakers introducing a draft bipartisan resolution which states that Ukraine should be "restored to its internationally recognised 1991 borders".&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, the draft resolution states that after Ukraine's victory in the war, the country should be integrated into NATO and other Euro-Atlantic institutions, which corresponds to the US long-term policy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We introduce this resolution to explain the importance of preserving territorial integrity. I believe it is important, in particular, for the American people, who must understand that the entire territory of Ukraine must be returned to Kyiv's jurisdiction," said Republican congressman Joe Wilson who co-wrote the document.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ukraine could have easily dominated the world order with the stockpile of nuclear arsenal it had. However, in the years to come, the USA, UK and other Western powers persuaded it to give up on nuclear ambitions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After legislation banning gender-affirming care was introduced in the House, Zephyr, a first-term representative from Missoula said such a ban would lead to more suicides and that it was 'tantamount to torture'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“This body should be ashamed. If you vote yes on this bill and yes on these amendments I hope the next time there’s an invocation, when you bow your heads in prayer, you see the blood on your hands," said Zephyr.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After Zephyr's statement, House Majority Leader Sue Vinton stood up and said, “I will note that this is entirely inappropriate, disrespectful and uncalled for. We can debate matters civilly and with respect for each other."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Later, the Montana Freedom Caucus, a group of conservative lawmakers wrote a letter, accusing Zephyr of espousing 'hateful rhetoric'. The&nbsp;Caucus also&nbsp;demanded Zephyr be censured for the speech.</p>

<p>"For attempting to shame the Montana legislative body and by using inappropriate and uncalled-for language during a floor debate over amendments concerning Senate Bill 99 - to ban sex changes of minor children" stated the Republican leaders.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However,&nbsp;Zephyr refused to apologise and said,&nbsp;"When the speaker asks me to apologise on behalf of decorum, what he is really asking me to do is be silent when my community is facing bills that get us killed. He is asking me to be complicit in this legislature's eradication of our community. And I refuse to do so."</p>

<p>While&nbsp;Zephyr has only been barred from the House floor, two Democratic lawmakers in&nbsp;Tennessee earlier this month received a harsher punishment. <p>“Look, each country is going to make its own sovereign decisions as it relates to its energy supply,” said Patel.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“One of the reasons that the United States, through the G7, has been a big proponent of the price cap is to ensure that steps are not being taken to keep Russian energy off the market because we understand that there is a demand for supply."</p>

<p>In December last year, the G7 and EU countries set a price cap of $60 per barrel on Russian oil. Even then, US stated Pakistan can purchase oil from Russia despite&nbsp;not signing the Washington-backed price cap.</p>

White House responds to Pakistan purchasing discounted Russian oil

<p>South Korea will not develop its own nuclear weapons while the US will aid in the use of them in any potential conflict with North Korea, according to a new agreement, known as the Washington Declaration,&nbsp;signed on Wednesday by President Joe Biden and his South Korean counterpart Yoon Suk Yeol in the White House.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The declaration will help in 'deterring and defending' by engaging in joint training, information training and military exercises. A US-South Korean consultative group will also be created under the declaration. It will provide Seoul with more information and input on nuclear policy but with the caveat that Washington will have the sole command of its weapons.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As part of the agreement, the US will also deploy nuclear-armed submarines to South Korea. Additionally, there will be a routine visit of aircraft carriers and bombers to the region to send a message to the enemy, informed officials.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, this is the first time since the US withdrew all of its nuclear weapons from South Korea in 1991 that talks about such an agreement have reached any fruition. However, there is no immediate plan to station nuclear weapons in South Korea - a marked difference from the Cold War strategy when US nuclear weapons were deployed to protect its allies in Europe.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The United States has not taken these steps, really, since the height of the Cold War with our very closest handful of allies in Europe. And we are seeking to ensure that by undertaking these new procedures, these new steps, that our commitment to extended deterrence is unquestionable," a senior official was quoted as saying by AFP.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>S Koreans want the development of nuclear weapons</strong></h2>

<p>The signing of the accord comes against the backdrop of the majority of South Koreans showing support to build an independent nuclear force. A recent survey showed that 71 per cent of Koreans believed that the time was right for the country to develop its own arsenal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the last year and a half, North Korea has ramped up its military programmes involving nuclear weapons. It has been firing missiles indiscriminately, including several ICBMs and has openly stated that it will not concede its nuclear capabilities.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Seoul for San Francisco?</strong></h2>

<p>South Koreans are wary of trusting the US. The idea has gained prominence, especially after N Korea developed missiles that are capable of reaching major US cities. Many fear that Washington may sacrifice Seoul for San Francisco, if push comes to shove.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier this year, even President Yoon himself discussed the possibility of such a situation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“It’s possible that the problem gets worse and our country will introduce tactical nuclear weapons or build them on our own. If that’s the case, we can have our own nuclear weapons pretty quickly, given our scientific and technological capabilities.”</p>

South Korea will not develop its own nuclear weapons while the US will aid in the use of them in any potential conflict with North Korea, according to a new agreement, known as the Washington Declaration, signed on Wednesday by President Joe Biden and his South Korean counterpart Yoon Suk Yeol in the White House.

As part of the agreement, the US will also deploy nuclear-armed submarines to South Korea. Additionally, there will be a routine visit of aircraft carriers and bombers to the region to send a message to the enemy, informed officials. Notably, this is the first time since the US withdrew all of its nuclear weapons from South Korea in 1991 that talks about such an agreement have reached any fruition. However, there is no immediate plan to station nuclear weapons in South Korea - a marked difference from the Cold War strategy when US nuclear weapons were deployed to protect its allies in Europe. "The United States has not taken these steps, really, since the height of the Cold War with our very closest handful of allies in Europe. And we are seeking to ensure that by undertaking these new procedures, these new steps, that our commitment to extended deterrence is unquestionable," a senior official was quoted as saying by AFP. A recent survey showed that 71 per cent of Koreans believed that the time was right for the country to develop its own arsenal. In the last year and a half, North Korea has ramped up its military programmes involving nuclear weapons. It has been firing missiles indiscriminately, including several ICBMs and has openly stated that it will not concede its nuclear capabilities. Seoul for San Francisco? South Koreans are wary of trusting the US. The idea has gained prominence, especially after N Korea developed missiles that are capable of reaching major US cities. Many fear that Washington may sacrifice Seoul for San Francisco, if push comes to shove. Earlier this year, even President Yoon himself discussed the possibility of such a situation. “It’s possible that the problem gets worse and our country will introduce tactical nuclear weapons or build them on our own. <p>Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel took to Twitter to confirm the news of the demise of the security personnel and the driver.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The news of the martyrdom of our 10 DRG jawans and a driver due to an IED blast on the DRG force which had arrived for an anti-Naxal operation on the information of the presence of Maoist cadre under Aranpur police station area of Dantewada is very sad. We all the people of the state pay our respects to him. We all share the grief of their families. May their soul rest in peace," tweeted Baghel.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The bill was brought in last month by Senator Aisha Wahab - the first Muslim and Afghan American elected to the state legislature.&nbsp;After the committee's approval, Wahab said she had received death threats after proposing the legislation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We’ve hit a nerve and exposed a form of discrimination many never even knew existed. Caste is an invisible shackle placed on people at birth. Those of us not raised in that system can’t possibly understand what it does to one’s psyche, the inter-generational trauma it causes," said Wahab who represents the Hayward district in northern California.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier, Wahab told BBC that she herself did not experience caste discrimination but was aware of the social evil because of the area she grew up in.</p>

<p>"I've had friends tell me that their parents immigrated to this country because they belong to different castes and [their] families weren't accepting of that," Wahab was quoted as saying by the BBC.</p>

<h2><strong>What is the caste system?</strong></h2>

<p>The caste system is an archaic form of social division in South Asia, especially India. Generally, caste is an ascribed status with Brahmins sitting at the top of the hierarchy order while the Dalit community comes at the bottom.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The US lawmakers are of the view that caste-based discrimination has proliferated in the country as well with even big tech companies facing the problem.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, not everyone seems to agree with the legislation. Rakhi Israni, an attorney and California resident, who testified before the committee stated that bill was 'unconstitutional' in its structure.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“If this bill is adopted, caste will be the only discrimination law category that is not facially neutral/ Everyone has a race. Everyone has a colour. Everyone has an age. Not everyone has a caste. This bill is facially discriminatory," she told the committee.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to an AP report, during the course of hearing in front of the committee, about 220 people said they support the bill while 420 said they oppose it.&nbsp;</p>

Based in the northern Indian state of Punjab, QP Pharmachem Limited manufactured the affected product but has alleged that someone duplicated the syrup to defame the Government of India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Food And Drug Administration (FDA) of Punjab doubt that someone has duplicated the product (cough syrup) sent to Cambodia and then sold it in the Marshall Islands and Micronesia to defame the Government of India," said QP Pharma MD Sudhir Pathak.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The FDA department has taken samples of cough syrup sent to Cambodia for testing. A total of 18,336 bottles of cough syrup were sent," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Cough syrup contains toxic compounds: WHO</strong></h2>

<p>WHO in its alert stated that the cough syrup produced by the Punjab-based company contained compounds toxic to human health.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Samples of the Guaifenesin SYRUP TG SYRUP from the Marshall Islands were analysed by quality control laboratories of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Australia. The analysis found that the product contained unacceptable amounts of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol as contaminants," read the official statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“To date, neither the stated manufacturer nor the marketer have provided guarantees to WHO on the safety and quality of these products,” it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to experts, consumption of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol can cause numerous health complications such as vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, headache, altered mental state, inability to pass urine and acute kidney injury which may lead to death.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In an effort to align our curriculum with our equity policy, teachers will be using gender-inclusive language throughout this unit. With any differences, we strive to use “person-first” language as the best practice," read the note to parents.&nbsp;</p>

<p>German magazine Der Spiegel has come under heavy scrutiny from Indians after it published a cartoon that many deemed to have racist undertones. After a UN report stated that India was set to overtake China as the world's most populous country by mid-year, the magazine published a cartoon on the topic but could not hide its casual racism in the garb of creative freedom.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The cartoon showed a dilapidated, overcrowded Indian train with passengers sitting atop the roof overtaking a modern Chinese bullet train running on the parallel track with just two drivers inside. The image attempted to portray that India had gone ahead of China in the population count but used a stereotypical view of things.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As soon as the cartoon went viral, netizens made it a point to remind the German magazine that India had changed considerably in the last few decades. A minister even reminded the publication that printing such a cartoon when India is touted to take over the European country in terms of the fourth largest economy was not a smart decision.&nbsp;</p>

As soon as the cartoon went viral, netizens made it a point to remind the German magazine that India had changed considerably in the last few decades. A minister even reminded the publication that printing such a cartoon when India is touted to take over the European country in terms of the fourth largest economy was not a smart decision. Indian netizens and politicians slam German magazine for 'racist' cartoon

<p>Microsoft's $69 billion acquisition to buy Activision Blizzard - a video game company has been blocked in the United Kingdom by the Competition and Markets Authority. After months of investigation, the antitrust watchdog concluded that the deal would harm competition in cloud gaming.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The deal could alter the future of the fast-growing cloud gaming market, leading to reduced innovation and less choice for UK gamers over the years to come,” stated the CMA after analysing more than three million Microsoft and Activision documents and over 2,100 emails from the public.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Martin Coleman, the chair of the panel conducting the investigation added that Microsoft could seriously undermine the competitors if the deal went through.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Microsoft already enjoys a powerful position and head start over other competitors in cloud gaming and this deal would strengthen that advantage giving it the ability to undermine new and innovative competitors,” said Coleman.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Microsoft said it will appeal the decision but it is a body blow to the tech behemoth which had been looking to close the deal as soon as possible.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We're especially disappointed that after lengthy deliberations, this decision appears to reflect a flawed understanding of this market and the way the relevant cloud technology actually works," said Brad Smith, vice chairman and president of Microsoft.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Activision also showed disappointment over the ruling and said the UK was 'closed for business'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The CMA's report contradicts the ambitions of the UK to become an attractive country to build technology businesses," said a company spokesperson.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The report's conclusions are a disservice to UK citizens, who face increasingly dire economic prospects. We will reassess our growth plans for the UK. Global innovators large and small will take note that - despite all its rhetoric - the UK is clearly closed for business."</p>

<p>French President Emmanuel Macron regrets he was not involved sufficiently in selling his highly unpopular pension reform bill to the public. Macron's statement comes just over a week after he signed the bill into law but has since faced a hailstorm of criticism.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Perhaps the mistake was not being sufficiently present to give a substance to the reform and carry it myself," Macron told Le Parisien newspaper, adding that he still had "confidence" in Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne whose job is seen as being on the line.</p>

<p>Ever since the reform bill was introduced, Borne has been one of the most vocal voices backing it. According to Borne, extending the pension age prevents the French fiscal system from collapsing under the weight of deficits.</p>

<p>"Leaving these deficits to grow would be irresponsible...It would lead inevitably to a massive increase in taxes, a reduction in pensions and would pose a threat to our pensions system," said Bonne.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I'm very aware that making changes to our retirement system is causing anxiety and fears among French people."</p>

<h2><strong>Government in danger</strong></h2>

<p>Meanwhile, Macron added that his government may be in danger, come the next election as far-right leader Marine Le Pen continues to make gains.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Marine Le Pen will arrive (in power) if we are unable to respond to the challenges of the country and if we introduce a habit of lying or denying reality," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The next presidential election is scheduled for 2027 but Le Pen has made sizeable gains in swaying the fence-sitters to her campaign. Macron has smelled the coffee and is warning the public about Le Pen's anti-immigration stance.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier this month, the French court approved Macron's controversial pension reform plan to raise the retirement age. The decision was validated by the nine-member Constitutional Council after almost three months of protests across the country.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The council was of the view that the government's actions were in line with the constitution and that the retirement age should be raised.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to reports, the court rejected six minor proposals, which included forcing large companies to publish data regarding how many employees above 55 were working for them and creating a special contract for older workers.&nbsp;</p>
