"We confirm that we have received a request from the Bangladeshi side on Hasina's extradition. Beyond that, I have nothing further to add," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said in the weekly briefing.
The confirmation came after Bangladesh's interim government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, sent a diplomatic note to India's Foreign Ministry requesting Hasina's extradition.&nbsp;

 As per the plan, the massive dam will be built at a huge gorge in the Himalayan reaches where the Brahmaputra makes a huge U-turn to flow into Arunachal Pradesh and then to Bangladesh.
 In its first reaction to the proposed dam on Jan 3, India urged China to ensure that the interests of downstream states of the Brahmaputra are not harmed by activities in upstream areas.
 "We will continue to monitor and take necessary measures to protect our interests," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told media in Delhi.
 "As a lower riparian state with established user rights to the waters of the river, we have consistently expressed, through expert-level as well as diplomatic channels, our views and concerns to the Chinese side over mega projects on rivers in their territory," Jaiswal said.

On Dec 27, another Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, defended China&rsquo;s plan to build the world's largest dam on the Brahmaputra River in Tibet, saying the project will not negatively affect lower riparian states and that safety issues have been addressed through decades of studies.
"The project will not negatively affect the lower reaches," she said, referring to the concerns in India and Bangladesh, which are the lower riparian states.

After Biden&rsquo;s win in the 2020 US presidential elections, Trump called for Congress and the vice president to block the Democrat's certification. He alleged election fraud had led to his defeat.
On the election certification day, thousands of Trump supporters rallied outside the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/on-the-us-capitol-riot-anniversary-heres-what-happened-four-years-ago-8595915">White House</a> and attacked the Capitol building, which led to a delay in Biden&rsquo;s certification until the next morning.

Ahead of the Capitol riot anniversary, US President Joe Biden said on Sunday (Jan 5) that the events of January 6, 2021, should not be forgotten or &ldquo;rewritten&rdquo;.
"I don't think we should pretend it didn't happen," Biden told reporters at the White House.
"I think what he did was a genuine threat to democracy. I'm hopeful that we're beyond it," he added.

Speaking to The Philadelphia Inquirer, a spokesperson from the Liberal Gun Club said that the group received thousands of firearm training requests since the polls, more than in all 2023 combined.&nbsp;

However, Yamane argued that the American gun culture dramatically shifted in recent years, away from a focus on hunting and recreation and towards self-defence.&nbsp;
He said that as the culture shifted, people who owned guns became far more diverse.&nbsp;The professor said that the year 2020 was a period of tremendous social unrest and social uncertainty.&nbsp;
"And a large number of people in the United States, under those conditions, look to firearms to reestablish some sense of safety and security,&rdquo; Yamane said.
He added that racial and gender minorities &ldquo;led the way&rdquo; in terms of new gun ownership rates in 2020 and afterwards.
