Massive protests erupt in China after student's mysterious death. What's the case?

Meta&rsquo;s founder and CEO, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/meta-revises-policies-to-permit-mentally-ill-labels-for-lgbtq-people-8602519">Mark Zuckerberg</a>, is&nbsp;facing criticism following his recent announcement to reduce content moderation policies in the United States. 
Zuckerberg said that Meta will "get rid of fact-checkers" and replace them with community-based posts, initially in the US. He said that the fact-checking programme had led to "too many mistakes and too much censorship".

Zuckerberg claimed that fact-checkers were "too politically biased". However, the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) refuted his censorship claims, calling them "false". "We want to set the record straight, both for today's context and for the historical record," the IFCN stated.
Currently, Facebook collaborates with approximately 80 fact-checking organisations worldwide, using their services across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The IFCN warned that expanding Meta&rsquo;s new policy beyond the US could have dire consequences in over 100 countries where these programmes operate.

On Friday, UN human rights chief Volker Tyrk stated that regulating harmful online content "is not censorship". "Allowing hate speech and harmful content online has real-world consequences. Regulating such content is not censorship," T&uuml;rk wrote on X. He further called for "accountability and governance in the digital space, in line with human rights."

He also added that the communist nation was hoping to develop a first-strike nuclear capability against the US. The warning came from Trump&rsquo;s national security adviser from 2017 to 2018, HR McMaster. While speaking at an event organised by the Council on Foreign Relations, a think tank, McMaster argued the US needed to impose &ldquo;very significant costs&rdquo; on China for its &ldquo;massive cyber intrusions&rdquo;.
&ldquo;They listen to President Trump&rsquo;s phone and everybody around him for six months, right? They&rsquo;ve stolen extraordinary amounts of data which we found on our telecom networks,&rdquo; McMaster said.
It was not clear whether McMaster&rsquo;s claims referred to October reports that suggested China government-linked hackers may have targeted Trump&rsquo;s communications during the 2024 election campaign or earlier reports that accused Chinese spies of listening to his calls during his first term in office.

McMaster said he arrived at the conclusion that China was preparing to develop a first-strike capability by judging what China was doing &ldquo;from a cyber perspective.&rdquo;

First-strike capability essentially means the ability to launch a pre-emptive nuclear attack in a bid to neutralise enemy&rsquo;s nuclear arsenal to limit its ability to retaliate.
McMaster also lauded the outgoing Joe Biden administration for doing &ldquo;a pretty good job&rdquo; at restricting China&rsquo;s access to advanced chip manufacturing hardware and the Pentagon&rsquo;s recent decision to designate more Chinese companies as firms linked to the military.

The suspect, as per reports, is a homeless man and is believed to have intentionally lighted the Kenneth fire which is tearing through Los Angeles' West Hills at a rapid rate.

<h2>Suspect arrested</h2>
As per reports, the suspect was arrested on Thursday (Jan 10) around 4:40 pm local time (1230 am GMT on Friday) as police responded to reports of a man attempting to start a fire.
The would-be arsonist was detained by the officers with the help of residents who reported him. He was then taken to the Topanga station.&nbsp;

Talking to NewsNation, LAPD senior lead officer Charles Dinsel said that the suspect's attempt to start a fire &ldquo;is being investigated as a crime&rdquo;.
When asked if the police believed the Kenneth fire was set intentionally, Dinsel said: &ldquo;At this time, that's what we believe. Yes.&rdquo;

As per reports, the massive Kenneth Fire started around 2 pm local time (10 pm GMT) on Thursday in an area of dry bush in the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space just north of the 101 Freeway. By 6 pm, it had spread to over 600 acres. &nbsp;

Talking to NewsNation, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman vowed that if the fire did turn out to be caused by arson, &ldquo;Justice will be swift. It will be firm, and the maximum punishment will be sought&rdquo;.
In Lost Angeles, several fires continue to devastate the area.
As per the county coroner, at least 10 people have died in the fires and over 10,000 structures destroyed according to local officials.
&ldquo;The Department of Medical Examiner received notification of 10 fire-related deaths as of 9 pm on January 9,&rdquo; said a statement, adding: &ldquo;All cases are currently pending identification and legal next of kin notification.&rdquo;
