The flame retardant is widely used in the United States and across the globe to contain the spread of the fire.
The US has been using it since 1963, and it is the primary long-term fire retardant that the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection uses.
It is also the most-used fire retardant in the world, according to a 2022 report in the Associated Press.

The flame retardant consists of 80 per cent water, 14 per cent fertiliser-type salts, 6 per cent colouring agents and corrosion inhibitors, as per the BBC report
The US Forest Service said that the retardant helps control the spread of the fire by cooling and coating fuels, depleting the fire of oxygen, and slowing the rate of fuel combustion.

&ldquo;We don&rsquo;t know at the moment what it is and that makes it even more concerning,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;There&rsquo;s something that&rsquo;s obviously leaking or dropping or whatever and floating out there and being tossed around. But who&rsquo;s actually dropped it or lost it or leaked it is something none of us know.&rdquo;

According to the EPA statement, the balls comprised fatty acids, petroleum hydrocarbons, and other organic and inorganic materials, including traces of motor oil, drugs, hair, human faeces, animal matter, and food waste.

Yoon's security team has blamed his failure to attend the trial hearing into his short-lived martial law attempt on purported safety concerns.
The suspended president has refused to meet prosecutors and investigators probing his martial law declaration. Furthermore, his presidential guard unit also thwarted an attempt to arrest him following a tense, hours-long stand-off this month following the issuance of an arrest warrant.&nbsp;

The first phase of the North Aral Sea conservation project has led to a significant reduction in water salinity and an increase in annual fish catch to 8,000 tons, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation said. The scheme is jointly funded by the country&rsquo;s government and the World Bank for constructing infrastructure that stops the water from flowing out of the sea.
In 2024, the authorities directed 2.6 billion cubic metres of water into the northern of the sea, including one billion cubic metres during the irrigation season.&nbsp;

The five former Soviet republics of Central Asia have decided upon annual water quotas for the Amu Darya and Syr Darya, which feed water to the Aral Sea. The restoration project focuses on enhancing the ecology of the region, boosting the fishing industry and promoting eco-tourism.

The second volume covers the investigation into Trump allegedly withholding classified White House documents. Garland has said he does not want the volume on the documents' case to be released publicly while Trump&rsquo;s co-defendants in the case are still being prosecuted.

Now two Israeli officials have said that the Palestinian group is expected to free 33 hostages in the first phase of the proposed ceasefire agreement, according to a CNN report.
During the talks in Doha, Qatar presented the draft to both Israel and Hamas.
The chiefs of Israel's Mossad and Shin Bet spy agencies and the Qatari prime minister were also present in the meeting.
A senior Israeli official on Monday said that Tel Aviv is hopeful that most of the 33 hostages are alive.&nbsp;
He further said that, during the initial 42-day ceasefire, it is expected that Hamas will release the mortal remains of the ones dead in captivity.
The official then said that Israel will immediately implement the truce deal once it is signed, as per CNN reports.

Meanwhile, outgoing US President Joe Biden on Monday said that a ceasefire and hostage release agreement between Israel and Hamas was nearing completion.
Speaking at the State Department, Biden said, &ldquo;In the war between Israel and Hamas, we're on the brink of a proposal that I laid out in detail months ago finally coming to fruition.&rdquo;&nbsp;
House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan too echoed Biden's sentiment earlier in the day, suggesting a truce could be sealed within days. &ldquo;I'm not making a promise or prediction, but it is there for the taking and we are going to work to make it happen,&rdquo; Sullivan told reporters.
A Palestinian official close to Hamas also acknowledged that the current negotiations are the most &ldquo;serious and deep&rdquo; to date.
&ldquo;The current round of negotiations is the most serious and deep and has made significant progress,&rdquo; the official told AFP.

Militants have killed at least 40 farmers in Nigeria's northeastern Borno state in the latest violence to hit the conflict-wrought region, a government official said Monday.
Fighters from the Islamic State-aligned Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) late Sunday rounded up scores of farmers in Dumba on the shores of Lake Chad and shot them dead, Usman Tar, Borno state information commissioner said in a statement.
The "initial report indicates about 40 farmers have been killed while the whereabouts of many who escaped the attack are being traced for reunion with their families," Tar said.
The state government has ordered troops fighting militants in the region "to track and obliterate the insurgent elements" operating around Dumba and their enclaves in the wider Lake Chad area, Tar said.

The farmers "strayed off" the safe limit set by troops for farming and fishing in the area that is a sanctuary for militants from ISWAP and its Boko Haram rival and is dotted with landmines and "prone to nocturnal attacks", the commissioner said.
Lake Chad, which straddles Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon and Chad, serves as a hideout for Boko Haram and ISWAP who use it as a base from which to launch attacks into the countries.
According to a Nigerian intelligence report seen by AFP, "casualties could be over 100 persons killed in the attack" which it blamed on ISWAP fighters.

The farmers came from the region of Gwoza on the border with Cameroon to cultivate cowpea and onions on the shores of the freshwater lake, according to an anti-militant militia.
"The farmers had a deal with Boko Haram to farm in the Kwatar Yobe and Tudun Kanta near Dumba on the shores of the lake," Babakura Kolo, a militia leader told AFP.
"What they didn't know is that Lake Chad is demarcated between ISWAP and Boko Haram. While Boko Haram controls the islands in the lake, ISWAP controls the areas on the shores," Kolo said.
ISWAP attacked the farmers as punishment for encroaching on its territory without permission and payment of levies it usually imposes on farmers, fishermen and herders who want to operate in the area under its control, he added.
ISWAP and Boko Haram have been locked in deadly infighting for territorial control since their split in 2016 over ideological differences, which led to the killing of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau during clashes in May 2021.
