<p>China executed a notorious female serial killer by death penalty on Monday (Dec 18) who was accused of killing seven people in different cities.</p>

<p>The woman, named Lao Rongzhi, was executed in Nanchang, East China’s Jiangxi Province, reported the state-run communist party’s mouthpiece Global Times.</p>

<p>The woman engaged in a series of crimes, including robbery, extortion, and the brutal murder of seven individuals, between 1996 and 1999.</p>

<p>According to reports, while Lao would pick targets at entertainment venues, her boyfriend Fa Ziying used to kill them.</p>

<p>The woman spent 20 years on the run, evading authorities using aliases. Finally, she was arrested in the Fujian province in 2019 and charged with the crimes of intentional homicide, robbery and kidnapping in August 2020.</p>

<h2><strong>Lao’s appeal rejected by </strong>High People's Court</h2>

<p>Last year, Lao was given the death penalty by the Intermediate People's Court of Nanchang, Jiangxi, a decision she contested in the Jiangxi Provincial High People's Court.</p>

<p>In August this year, the hearing of the case took place and the high court upheld the death sentence.</p>

<p>Lao had all her political rights stripped and properties confiscated as a result of the verdict.</p>

<p>During the trial, Lao claimed that she was a victim of her boyfriend, who allegedly used to torture her. She claimed that she even thought of committing suicide after being continuously beaten by him.</p>

<p>Later, she also tendered an apology to the families of her victims.</p>

<p>An Amnesty International report earlier this year revealed that China, along with Iran and Saudi Arabia, accounted for the vast majority of known judicial executions last year.</p>

<p>“They poisoning the blood of our country,” said Trump during the rally, adding that immigrants are flooding the US from Asia and Africa, in addition to South America.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The rhetoric, previously criticised as xenophobic, resurfaced during a fiery rally in Durham where he addressed a crowd of several thousand supporters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“When they let, I think the real number is 15, 16 million people, into our country, when they do that, we got a lot of work to do,” said Trump, without giving evidence for the numbers. He also went on to quote Putin, who had previously praised for the invasion of Ukraine.&nbsp;</p>

According to a report by the news agency AFP, President Vucic told reporters that his party would have an absolute majority in parliament with 127 seats, adding around 76 per cent of ballots had been counted.</p>

<p>AFP reported that even though the president was personally on the ballot in the parliamentary and local elections, the electoral battle was largely seen as a referendum on his government. "My job was to do everything in my power to secure an absolute majority in the parliament," he said.</p>

<p>Official results are yet to be announced later in the day, but Vucic appeared certain of his party's performance.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>An expansion of presence for the ruling party</strong></h2>

<p>With Vucic's victory announcement, the SNS is hoping to expand its presence in the 250-seat parliament. AFP reported that in last year's election, the party secured just 120 seats, resulting in a coalition government.</p>

<p>During Sunday's election, the SNS still faced potentially hard-fought municipal races in the capital Belgrade, particularly from the loose coalition of opposition parties and candidates running under the Serbia Against Violence banner.</p>

<p>Serbia Against Violence was launched following back-to-back mass shootings in the country this year. The movement garnered mass anti-government protests over several months.</p>

<p>Speaking to the news agency, a candidate linked with the movement said, "We call on all political actors in Serbia and the international community not to remain silent in the face of this brutal robbery."</p>
