Middle East Crisis: Iran's military chief says not afraid of war with US

Republican presidential nomination seeker Nikki Haley has said the Lone Star state of Texas has the right to secede from the US if its citizens decide to do so. Haley's controversial remarks came during an appearance on the&nbsp;“Breakfast Club” radio show where she argued that&nbsp;secession is a “right” of the states.

Although Haley's statement contradicts centuries of established history and precedent in the US&nbsp;according to experts, she has stuck with the call given by staunch Conservatives of the state.&nbsp;

“I think states have the right to make the decisions that their people want to make. If Texas decides they want to do that. They can do that,” Haley told&nbsp;host Charlamagne Tha God.&nbsp;

“If that whole state says, ‘We don’t want to be part of America anymore’.&nbsp;I mean, that’s their decision to make,” she added.&nbsp;

The former South Carolina governor said the government did not need to tell people how to live their lives, instead, they should be given freedom to live.&nbsp;However, the 52-year-old White House hopeful went on to add Texas seceding from the US won't happen.&nbsp;

The US State Department expressed optimism about the proposed drone deal with India, emphasising its "significant potential" to advance strategic technology cooperation. 
The deal was announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit last year, marking substantial growth in the US-India defence partnership over the past decade. 
Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the US State Department, highlighted the importance of the deal in furthering strategic technology cooperation with India and enhancing military collaboration in the region.

While addressing the media, Miller said, "So I'll say that generally, the US-India Defence Partnership has seen significant growth over the past decade. This is a proposed sale that was announced during Prime Minister Modi's visit last year."

"We believe it offers significant potential to further advance strategic technology cooperation with India and military cooperation in the region," he added. 
He also acknowledged the crucial role of Congress in the arms transfer process, emphasising routine consultations with members of Congress on foreign affairs committees before formal notifications.

"Of course, Congress plays an important role in the US arms transfer process. We routinely consult with members of Congress on the foreign affairs committees before our formal notification so we can address questions that they might have. But I don't have any comment on when that formal notification might take place," Miller also said. 
The proposed drone deal is part of the broader efforts to strengthen defence ties between the United States and India. 
In June 2023, US President Joe Biden and PM Modi welcomed India's plans to procure Predator drones made by General Atomics, a mega pact that will allow American Navy ships to undertake major repairs at Indian shipyards.

The ruling delivers another blow to Trump who is running for the 2024 presidential election while dealing with his many legal woes, including four separate criminal prosecutions, in the US.&nbsp;

In 2016, Steele’s firm created a dossier which contained rumours and uncorroborated allegations that sparked a political storm just before Trump’s inauguration, in January 2017.&nbsp;

The so-called Steele dossier alleged ties between Trump and Moscow saying that the former president has been “compromised” by the Russian security service, FSB.&nbsp;

The dossier based on unverified information also said that Moscow had damning videotapes of Trump with prostitutes during a 2013 trip to the Russian capital.&nbsp;

According to a witness statement made public in October, Trump said he brought the case to prove claims in the Steele dossier that he engaged in “perverted sexual acts” in Russia, are false.

Meanwhile, Orbis argued that Trump brought the claim simply to address his “longstanding grievances” against the company and Steele and should be thrown out since the report was never meant to be made public.&nbsp;

The British firm also said that the dossier was published by BuzzFeed without the permission of Steele or Orbis and that Trump filed the claim too late.&nbsp;

According to Wang, at least eight Chinese students with lawful and valid travel permits were subjected to interrogation, harassment, and subsequent deportation by US authorities "for groundless reasons" since the end of November 2023. He alleged that some personnel had "induced and infiltrated" the victims or persuaded these students to engage in activities that may be against China's interests.

He claimed that the US was overstretching the concept of national security to suppress and mistreat Chinese students, ultimately undermining the basic human rights and lawful rights and interests of these individuals.

The police in Canada have been carrying out&nbsp;investigation of a bizarre heist which involved the theft of a taxidermy polar bear from a resort near Edmonton.

The stuffed bear that weighed approximately 500lb (225kg), and stood&nbsp;some 12ft (3.6m) tall, was reported to have been snatched amid the cold snap in early January as the temperatures reached near -30C (-22F).

As per the police, the bear was reported to have been stolen on January 22 by the operators of&nbsp;Lily Lake Resort.

As per the investigators, a "similar occurrence" was reported from&nbsp;the resort last August when it said two taxidermy raccoons were stolen during a break-in inside the property.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said that all three taxidermy animals will cost approximately C$35,000 (£21,000; $26,000).&nbsp;

<h2>No security patrol when theft happened</h2>

Speaking to The Globe and Mail, a resort worker said the resort had 24-hour security patrols, however, they were cancelled that night because of the bitter cold.

Speaking to the newspaper, Wanda Rowe said that the thieves had snapped the cables which had secured the stuffed bear and dragged the animal outside the enclosure, where they reportedly kept a vehicle waiting.

In the videos shared on Chinese social media, Zhang appeared grief-stricken because of the act he committed.&nbsp;

As per the outlet, the man was also seen sobbing uncontrollably and banging his head on the wall.

"The moment I heard my kids were actually thrown out of the 15th floor by their father and the mistress, I couldn't find any words to describe my feelings," said Chen, as reported by The New York Post.

"I couldn't imagine what my kids had experienced from the 15th floor to the ground. Were they desperate? Were they afraid?" she said.&nbsp;

The crime committed by Zhang and Ye' sent shock waves across China for its cold-blooded nature.&nbsp;
