<p>Turkish police authorities, in a swift and successful operation, apprehended an armed man and rescued a total of seven staff members kept hostage at a Procter &amp; Gamble (PG.N) facility in northwestern Turkey on Thursday (Feb 1).</p>

<p>The Kocaeli governor's office confirmed that the hostages, which included six men and a woman, were safe and not unharmed. Notably, the rescue operation was initiated after negotiations with the assailant, an employee of the factory, proved unsuccessful.</p>

<p>"Our security forces intervened and neutralised the suspect," stated the governor's office. The motive behind the hostage-taking was revealed as&nbsp;a protest against Israel's onslaught in Gaza and the hostage-taker wanted to "draw attention" to the ongoing "occupation" in the besieged territory.</p>

<p>The assailant entered the Procter &amp; Gamble facility in the Gebze industrial zone in Kocaeli province during day time, at around 3 pm (1200 GMT), reported Reuters while giving information pertaining to the incident which unfolded in the major Turkish city, around 466 kilometres from the capital of Ankara.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To tackle the situation, the Turkish police responded promptly. As per reports, firstly, the police tried to convince the hostage-taker to surrender peacefully, however, the plans failed to bore fruit and thus the rescue operation was kicked off by the&nbsp;authorities.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Friday (Feb 2), Iranian state media reported that an adviser to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps was killed in an Israeli air strike near Syria's capital Damascus.</p>

<p>The Iranian state media report, citing a military source, claimed that the Israeli aircraft launched their missiles from over the Golan Heights at the targets south of the capital at around 4:20 AM (local time).&nbsp;</p>

<p>On January 5, a door plug of the fuselage of Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 fell off shortly after it took off from international airport in Portland, USA. This caused panel of the plane's body to fall off while it was still thousands of feet above the ground. Depressurisation of the cabin soon followed and objects began being sucked out of the plane through the gaping hole.</p>

<p>Fortunately, the pilots were able to control the aircraft and make an emergency landing in Oregon, Portland. There were no casualties or major injuries among the travellers and the crew.</p>

<p>France's leading farmers' union the FNSEA along with its close ally the Young Farmers (JA) on Thursday (Feb 1), called to end nationwide roadblocks over pay, tax and regulation.</p>

<p>FNSEA chief Arnaud Rousseau released a statement saying that the government was "listening" to their demands after Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced cash support and other measures for farmers.</p>

<p>"We have decided to suspend the roadblocks and move to a new form of mobilisation," JA president Arnaud Gaillot said at the same news conference.</p>

<h2><strong>Farmers clog roads with over 1,000 tractors around Brussels &nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Earlier in the day, farmers protesting across Europe over better working conditions, higher pay and less red tape, blocked roads around an EU summit taking place in Brussels with around 1,300 tractors, said a Belgian police official.</p>

<p>"There are over 1,000 tractors or agricultural machinery" being kept away from the gathering of the European Union's 27 leaders, a police spokesman told news agency AFP. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>He further added that the farmers were mainly from Belgium.</p>
