Analysts have warned that a ground incursion will further worsen the situation in Rafah amid widespread shortages of food, medicines and clean water.&nbsp;Washington says a ground assault there would be a "mistake" and cause too much harm to civilians.

A UN-backed report has even projected famine and stated that about half the population across the whole of the Gaza Strip facing "catastrophic hunger".&nbsp;

It's widely recognized that social support and feelings of loneliness are influential factors in determining overall happiness, and these dynamics differ across various age groups. The quality of interpersonal relationships may impact the well-being of younger and older individuals in distinct ways," she said.&nbsp;

Along with the US, the United Kingdom also dropped in ranking from the list of the world's happiest countries.&nbsp;

Britain slid from the 20th position and was ranked below Lithuania and Czechia.

Six key factors using which the data was analysed by the experts are GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, social support, freedom, generosity and perception of corruption.&nbsp;

“These factors help to explain the differences across nations, while the rankings themselves are based only on the answers people give when asked to rate their own lives,” as per a statement released by the World Happiness Report.

The data collected for the six factors was collected by the World Bank, the World Health Organisation and the Gallup World Poll.

A US federal appeals court late Tuesday (Mar 19) put back on hold a controversial&nbsp;law in Texas that would have allowed the state’s law enforcement officials to detain and deport migrants on charges of illegally entering the country from the US-Mexico border.

The Republican-backed law was frozen just hours after&nbsp;the US Supreme Court lifted the pause.

Texas ‘controversial’ law back on hold

Earlier in the day,&nbsp;the SCOTUS had decided to lift the pause on Texas' controversial immigration law.

But a three-judge panel at the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2-1 to overturn a previous ruling from a different panel which had&nbsp;put the law into effect.&nbsp;

The appeals court has also&nbsp;scheduled oral arguments over whether to block the law for Wednesday (Mar 20) morning, as the justices consider&nbsp;the legal challenges to it.

<h2>White House, Mexico respond</h2>

Mexico’s foreign ministry in a sharply worded statement said that it would not “under any circumstances” accept anyone back who is ordered to leave the country under the state law and “categorically rejects” any state or local government enforcement of immigration laws.

The Mexican government also called the law “anti migrant” and said that it would lead to “family separation, discrimination and racial profiling.”&nbsp;

The White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre said that the Texas law will cause chaos and confusion at the border.&nbsp;

“We fundamentally disagree with the Supreme Court’s order allowing Texas’s harmful and unconstitutional law to go into effect,” said Jean-Pierre.&nbsp;

She added, “SB4 will not only make communities in Texas less safe, it will also burden law enforcement and sow chaos and confusion at our southern border.”

<h2>Texas border enforcement law</h2>

Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the SCOTUS&nbsp;decision “a positive development".

SB4, signed by Abbott in December, makes illegal entry or re-entry into Texas a state crime, the violation of which can lead to penalties ranging from 180 days to 20 years in prison.&nbsp;

The law requires Texas magistrate judges to order migrants to return to Mexico who can be sentenced to 20 years in prison if they refuse to comply.&nbsp;

The DOJ argued that the law not only violates the Constitution and federal law which gives the government the power to regulate immigration, but also goes against the precedent set by a 2012 Supreme Court ruling. &nbsp;

On Monday (March 18), the US Supreme Court had denied&nbsp;Navarro's request to avoid prison while he appeals his contempt of Congress conviction for defying a subpoena from a panel that investigated the 2021 Capitol attack.

Navarro&nbsp;arrived at around 11:30 am&nbsp;local time at a federal prison in Miami, Florida to begin serving a four-month prison sentence.

The partial account freeze is likely to further taint the reputation of graft-accused Zuma, who has joined an opposition group seeking to cut into the vote share of his old home, the African National Congress (ANC).

Zuma's new party, uMkhonto We Sizwe (MK) or Spear of the Nation, reacted angrily, saying the measure was politically motivated.

"It's clear that the ANC is behind all of this," MK spokesman Nhlamulo Ndhlela told AFP, adding the ruling party was trying "to humiliate" its former boss.

FNB said the court order, issued at the end of February, was the result of legal action taken by the liquidators of another bank, which is owed money by Zuma.

"This instruction from the court results from the process currently being managed by the VBS Bank liquidators, and FNB was legally required to comply. Former President Zuma's recourse now lies with the courts and VBS liquidators," it said.

The dispute relates to a decade-old scandal over the improper use of public funds to refurbish Zuma's massive Nkandla homestead in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal.

In 2016, a top court found that the then-president had acted against the constitution by using millions of dollars of taxpayers' money for "security upgrades", which included a chicken coop, a swimming pool and an amphitheatre.

Ordered to pay back part of the sum, Zuma took out a 7.8-million-rand ($413,000) loan from VBS.

The bank was later placed under curatorship and its liquidators have gone to court to force Zuma to pay back the outstanding part of the loan.

The fourth president of democratic South Africa from 2009 to 2018, Zuma has long been bitter about the way he was forced out of office under the cloud of corruption allegations.

In December, he declared that he would be campaigning for MK, a party named after the ANC's former armed wing during the anti-apartheid struggle.

It was a blow for the ANC, which is struggling in the polls and risks losing its parliamentary majority for the first time since the advent of democracy in 1994 amid accusations of mismanagement and corruption, and high rates of crime, poverty and unemployment.
