The Blobfish, voted the world’s ugliest animal in 2013, lives true to its name. The fish, which lives in deep seas off the coast of Australia, is primarily made of gelatinous flesh. It swims near the seafloor, feeding on tiny crustaceans that float into its mouth. 

Surprisingly, these organisms are a kind of slug. They are graceful swimmers and are beautiful to watch. Sea angels are also fairly translucent, creating an almost ethereal illusion as they float in the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean. They may grow up to 5 cm (2 inches) in length and survive solely on sea butterflies.


We’ve all seen an octopus, but have you ever seen one that shines? This intriguing species generates a blue-green light from its suckers. The octopus can switch the lights on and off to either scare off predators or draw in little crustaceans.
