Turkiye tariffs target Chinese auto imports

Turkey recently announced a 40% additional tariff on vehicle imports from China, effective July 7th, with a minimum charge of $7,000 per vehicle. This decision aims to safeguard Turkey's current account balance and protect its domestic automakers from what they perceive as unfair competition. The move comes amidst global concerns over China's increasing export of electric vehicles, which many allege to be heavily subsidized by Beijing to prop up its economy.
