Tokyo recognizes same-sex relationships, LGBTQ community hopes for no discrimination
Same-sex couples in Tokyo have started receiving their partnership certificates. The status does not carry the same legal rights as marriage but partners will be treated as married couples for some public services like housing, medicine, welfare; this is applicable for both residents and commuters.
