Sixth mass extinction underway at accelerating rate, warns study

According to a different study that was earlier this summer published in the journal Biological Reviews, the sixth mass extinction is the first that has been "directly induced by a single species – humans." In June, scientists suggested defining a new epoch to account for the influence of people on the planet.
