Russian aircraft intercepted in Alaska for third time in a week

U.S. fighter jets were scrambled on Sunday for the third time in a week to intercept a Russian IL-20 COOT spy plane detected near Alaska, according to NORAD. While the aircraft remained in international airspace within the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone, it prompted a swift response from American forces. These reconnaissance flights, although routine, underscore rising military surveillance activity between the U.S. and Russia near sovereign borders.
