Russian forces claim progress in the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, but Kyiv says its defenders continue to hold key positions. The Russian Defence Ministry reports troops have entered the Prigorodny area and targeted Ukrainian positions near the railway station and industrial zone. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Russian forces are massing near Dobropillia, though Ukraine retains the initiative there. Up to 300 Russian soldiers remain in Pokrovsk, but no district is fully under their control. Kyiv’s forces have stepped up pressure on Dobropillia to divert Russian attention. Capturing Pokrovsk would provide Moscow a platform to advance toward Kramatorsk and Sloviansk in Donetsk. Peace talks remain stalled in the fourth year of the war as fighting continues along the 1,000-km front line.
