Myanmar chooses Russia to build Dawei Deep Seaport Irking China
China is reportedly irked with Myanmar for choosing Russia to build the Dawei Deep Seaport on the country's east coast. China which was also trying to build a port close to the Thailand border, had done a feasibility study of the Dawei. According to reports, it chose to focus on Kyakphyu deep seaport instead, as it was close to the India-built Sittwe port. Over the past year, Myanmar has been shedding its overdependence on China, and expanding ties with Russia to secure military supplies and build infrastructure and energy projects. With Myanmar opening the doors for Russia is the influence of Beijing, after seeking to be a dominant player, waning?
