To address the issue, some 40 million tonnes of raw sewage are dumped into London's River Thames each year. The new 25-kilometer-long "super sewer" that London's municipal agency built along the river is made of concrete and is projected to stop 95% of spills when it is completely operational in 2025 and offer a healthy environment for nearby wildlife.
