Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has warned vessels that passage through the strategic Strait of Hormuz is “not allowed,” according to maritime authorities and an EU naval mission official. Ships sailing in the narrow waterway, which handles about a fifth of the world’s oil exports, received radio transmissions telling them to avoid transit amid escalating conflict after recent U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran. While Tehran has not formally declared a closure, insurers are raising war-risk premiums and major shipping firms have suspended shipments. Global energy markets and maritime safety are now under significant strain.
