India: Karnataka to Restrict Social Media Access for Under-16s

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced plans to restrict social media access for children under 16. The proposal, revealed during the ₹4.48 lakh crore 2026–27 state budget, aims to tackle the growing impact of excessive mobile and social media usage among young users. If implemented, Karnataka could become the first Indian state to introduce such a restriction.
