The Centre has issued a notice to Meta over WhatsApp's newly introduced username feature, raising concerns that it could fuel impersonation, phishing, identity theft and digital fraud. The government has directed WhatsApp to hold off on rolling out the feature until consultations are completed and has sought a detailed explanation from the company within three days.
