Google lays off hundreds of workers across division

In January 2023, Google laid off 12,000 employees, which is 6% of its workforce. This was the largest layoff in the company's history. The layoffs were part of an effort to reduce costs and streamline operations. Most of the employees let go were working on voice-based Google Assistant and the augmented reality hardware team.
